Les Pratiques Funéraires à Tell Hamoukar (Syrie) du Chalcolithique à l’Âge du Bronze Ancien : Continuité ou Interruption

(Abstract in English, article in French) This paper traces the evolution of the disposal of human remains at Tell Hamoukar, exploring the links between burial practices and changes in social fabric that accompanied the urbanization of the region between the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. The treatment of the deceased shows little variations with a majority of individual primary graves where the subject is mostly deposited in more or less contracted position. The most important changing concerns the remains in association with the deceased, more numerous and varied during the Bronze Age, while the burial jars disappear for the younger children

Ferron funéraire

Le motif de la mort préside souvent à l'organisation du discours narratif chez Ferron, dont l'écriture hiératique puise fréquemment au rituel funéraire. Les composantes essentielles de celui-ci, tels le cadavre, le cercueil, le char funèbre, le croque-mort, reviennent en permanence au point que, d'un texte à l'autre, se tisse un réseau privilégié de sens. La présente étude trace les contours de trois domaines d'intérêt - anthropologique, symbolique et autobiographique - qu'alimente le thème funéraire dans l'oeuvre de Ferron, et s'attache à distinguer trois fonctions du motif de la mort dans l'économie narrative : fonction d'association, de séparation et de représentation.The motif of death frequently supervenes in organizing the narrative discourse of Ferron, whose hieratic writing often draws on the funeral ritual. The essential components of the latter, including corpse, coffin, hearse and pallbearers, recur constantly from text to text, so as to weave a particular network of meanings. This study outlines the three areas of interest - anthropological, symbolic and autobiographical - underlying the funerary theme in Ferron's work, and seeks to distinguish between the three functions that the motif has in the economy of narrative - those of association, separation and representation

Entre les vivants et les morts, les pompes funèbres aux portes du marché

Studying this emerging marketplace sheds light on a merchandising process in this branch of the economy. This process has unfolded against the backdrop of a change in geography (the places where people die) and a change in the symbolic relation to death. It has entailed: designing funeral services in place of rituals; reworking the ‘mediations' that institute economic transactions between market segments of living clients, on the one hand, and, on the other, businesses of different sizes that provide various products and services; working out new arrangements for winning clients (products, services, package deals, etc.); and developing new business qualifications. Deeply anchored in the realm of symbols, the funeral business must handle two anthropological aspects of exchanges (the market and symbolic ones) that are structurally antagonistic but that its economic organisation cannot abolish. This inquiry focuses on how symbolic issues limit the activities of these businesses, in particular by forcing them to reconcile competition over prices (the very basis of the marketing dimension) and discretion about prices (itself required by the symbolic prohibition against reducing clients to mere customers.)En étudiant la création d'un marché des pompes funèbres1 en France, né de la suppression des monopoles communaux, les auteurs nous donnent à voir un processus de marchandisation : construction d'une prestation en lieu et place des rituels, recomposition des médiations qui instituent l'échange économique, construction de nouveaux dispositifs et compétences d'échange. Profondément ancré dans la sphère du symbolique, le secteur doit cependant conjuguer deux registres anthropologiques de l'échange, marchand et symbolique, structurellement antagonistes, que ne peut abolir son organisation économique. El epitafio poético del abogado Marco Oppio (CIL II 3493, ad CLE 224 : Carthago Noua)

On revendique dans cet article le caractère poétique d'une inscription funéraire de Carthago Noua dédiée à un advocat. D'un côté, on y reconnaît une structure métrique définie: un septénaire ïambique. D'un autre côté, on observe la présence d'une sorte d'éloge et d'une formule de lamentation qui font partie de la tradition de la poésie funéraire

Une partie de la campagne gallo-romaine du Haut-Empire des cités des Médiomatriques et des Triboques préservée par la forêt : les habitats et parcellaires des Vosges du Nord (Moselle et Bas-Rhin) de part et d'autre du seuil de Saverne

Les forêts du massif des Vosges au nord du Donon cachent de nombreuses ruines de bâtiments et de structures antiques longtemps attribuées à une culture gallo-romaine dite "des sommets vosgiens". Cet article propose un regard sur cette occupation rurale du Haut-Empire qu'il ne faut plus considérer comme marginale et unique. Il s'agit surtout d'une très bonne conservation des vestiges de l'occupation rurale gallo-romaine d'un espace peu montagnard propices à l'agriculture. L'ensemble des plans relevés des parcellaires associés à de l'habitat est présenté et un point sur les activités est développé
