The article raises the issue of presumption as the increasingly widespread pattern of consumer behaviour leading to independence or the significant reduction of the use of some types of services and products on the market principles. It indicated the pro-ecological conditions of this group of consumer behaviours and their importance for the practical realisation of the concept of sustainable development. It reviewed the existing approaches con-cerning presumption and sustainable development. Taking into account the current state of knowledge, the concept of the prosument product was proposed, which can be treated as the involvement of citizens in the potential spheres of prosument actions to achieve sustainable development and providing the tangible and intangible benefits to people involved in its creation. It has also paid attention to the key areas of prosumption which impact the natural environment, also the potential courses of action were indicated, which should be taken by the state policy makers and the non-governmental organisations for the development of prosumer activity

Energy Transition in Poland—Assessment of the Renewable Energy Sector

The topic of the article considers the functioning of the renewable energy (RE) sector in Poland. This is really important in the context of the energy transition of the national economy because it influences the creation of modern technologies and increases the competitiveness and innovation of the country. Poland is in a process of energy transition where the RE sector has been developing for two decades. The authors aimed to research the RE sector improvement possibilities in Poland, including the influence of this sector on chosen social and economic aspects. Because of this research’s aim a critical situation assessment of RE in Poland was conducted and a survey of a group of experts in this field was also involved. Legal, physical and mental determinants and their influence on RE sector were looked into. In the legal determinant context a necessity to simplify relevant legislation acts in Poland was found. Undoubtedly there is a need to improve several legal acts, including the Distance Act. In physical determinants it was found that solar, wind and biomass energy have the biggest chances for development. In the case of mental determinants the authors paid attention to the need of educating the public about using and obtaining energy. It is also important to make people aware how the RE sector influences the low emission economy positively. This will improve the creation of new jobs and reduce the emissions of harmful substances to the environment

ANALIZA OPŁACALNOŚCI INWESTYCYJNEJ INSTALACJI FOTOWOLTAICZNYCH W SYSTEMIE ON-GRID

The potential of the solar energy sector is starting to become increasingly important. The possibility to produce electrical power for household needs, as a result of an investment in photovoltaics is gaining popularity, and storing its surplus in a power grid and settlement of its consumption on the basis of an annual balance, allows to limit electricity bills to the minimum. The implementation stage, which promotes investing in solar renewable energy for own household needs was introduced by the new Act on RES, promoting the prosumer On-Grid system. The paper focuses on presenting the analysis of profitability of installing photovoltaic On-grid systems.Potencjał sektora energii słonecznej zaczyna nabierać coraz większego znaczenia. Możliwość produkcji energii elektrycznej na własne potrzeby, dzięki inwestycji w fotowoltaikę zyskuje coraz większą popularność, a magazynowanie jej nadwyżek w sieci energetycznej oraz rozliczanie jej zużycia na podstawie rocznego bilansu umożliwia ograniczenie rachunków za prąd do minimum. Fazę implementacji, promującą inwestowanie w słoneczną energię odnawialną na potrzeby własnych gospodarstw zaimplementowała nowa ustawa o OZE, promująca system prosument w systemie On-Grid. Barriers, Determinants, Financial Support Mechanisms in Green SME Areas

In the present paper the authors investigated barriers, determinants and financing sources (own and external capital) of planned and performed pro-ecological activities/investments in SMEs. The variables were aggregated on the basis of data from the European Commission and the authors’ own research in Polish enterprises of the SME sector, through purposeful selection (enterprises declaring pro-environmental activity). The authors distinguished an overarching determinant of pro-ecological activity in the SME sector, unique compared to large-scale enterprises: the convergence of pro-ecological activeness and cost reduction of own basic activity

Energy Transition in the Baltic Sea Region

This book analyses the potential for active stakeholder engagement in the energy transition in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) in order to foster clean energy deployment. Public acceptability and bottom-up activities can be critical for enduring outcomes to an energy transition. As a result, it is vital to understand how to unlock the potential for public, community and prosumer participation to facilitate renewable energy deployment and a clean energy transition – and, consequently, to examine the factors influencing social acceptability. Focussing on the diverse BSR, this book draws on expert contributions to consider a range of different topics, including the challenges of social acceptance and its policy implications; strategies to address challenges of acceptability among stakeholders; and community engagement in clean energy production. Overall, the authors examine the practical implications of current policy measures and provide recommendations on how lessons learnt from this ‘energy lab region’ may be applied to other regions. PROFILING - CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS

Profiling is an approach to put a label or a set of labels on a subject, considering the characteristics of this subject. The New Oxford American Dictionary defines profiling as: “recording and analysis of a person’s psychological and behavioral characteristics, so as to assess or predict his/her capabilities in a certain sphere or to assist in identifying a particular subgroup of people”. This research extends this definition towards things demonstrating that many methods used for profiling of people may be applied for a different type of subjects, namely things. The goal of this research concerns proposing methods for discovery of profiles of users and things with application of Data Science methods. The profiles are utilized in vertical and 2 horizontal scenarios and concern such domains as smart grid and telecommunication (vertical scenarios), and support provided both for the needs of authorization and personalization (horizontal usage).:The thesis consists of eight chapters including an introduction and a summary. First chapter describes motivation for work that was carried out for the last 8 years together with discussion on its importance both for research and business practice. The motivation for this work is much broader and emerges also from business importance of profiling and personalization. The introduction summarizes major research directions, provides research questions, goals and supplementary objectives addressed in the thesis. Research methodology is also described, showing impact of methodological aspects on the work undertaken. Chapter 2 provides introduction to the notion of profiling. The definition of profiling is introduced. Here, also a relation of a user profile to an identity is discussed. The papers included in this chapter show not only how broadly a profile may be understood, but also how a profile may be constructed considering different data sources. Profiling methods are introduced in Chapter 3. This chapter refers to the notion of a profile developed using the BFI-44 personality test and outcomes of a survey related to color preferences of people with a specific personality. Moreover, insights into profiling of relations between people are provided, with a focus on quality of a relation emerging from contacts between two entities. Chapters from 4 to 7 present different scenarios that benefit from application of profiling methods. Chapter 4 starts with introducing the notion of a public utility company that in the thesis is discussed using examples from smart grid and telecommunication. Then, in chapter 4 follows a description of research results regarding profiling for the smart grid, focusing on a profile of a prosumer and forecasting demand and production of the electric energy in the smart grid what can be influenced e.g. by weather or profiles of appliances. Chapter 5 presents application of profiling techniques in the field of telecommunication. Besides presenting profiling methods based on telecommunication data, in particular on Call Detail Records, also scenarios and issues related to privacy and trust are addressed. Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 target at horizontal applications of profiling that may be of benefit for multiple domains. Chapter 6 concerns profiling for authentication using un-typical data sources such as Call Detail Records or data from a mobile phone describing the user behavior. Besides proposing methods, also limitations are discussed. In addition, as a side research effect a methodology for evaluation of authentication methods is proposed. Chapter 7 concerns personalization and consists of two diverse parts. Firstly, behavioral profiles to change interface and behavior of the system are proposed and applied. The performance of solutions personalizing content either locally or on the server is studied. Then, profiles of customers of shopping centers are created based on paths identified using Call Detail Records. The analysis demonstrates that the data that is collected for one purpose, may significantly influence other business scenarios. Chapter 8 summarizes the research results achieved by the author of this document. It presents contribution over state of the art as well as some insights into the future work planned

Perspectives of Integrated “Next Industrial Revolution” Clusters in Poland and Siberia

Deindustrialization of the cities and struggles with its consequences are one of the fundamental economic problems in current global economy. The assessment of renewable energy in Poland on the background of the world renewable energy sector

The issues of the article are associated with the development of the renewable energy source (RES) sector in the world and in Poland. The subject is undoubtedly connected with the problem of the energy transformation taking place in most countries nowadays. Energy transformation processes are mainly associated with an increase in the share of energy production from RES and increased awareness of energy use by end consumers. This means that the systematic development of the RES sector is a necessary condition for linking the effective course of energy transition processes with simultaneous socio-economic development. The main objective of this study is to present the status of the RES sector in Poland against the background of worldwide development tendencies. The implementation of the objective made it possible to indicate key trends in the production and use of energy from individual RES and to assess to what extent Poland follows global trends. Poland is one of the European countries where hard coal and lignite constitute the main source of energy. On the other hand Poland, as a Member State of the EU, is obliged to implement the energy strategy within the framework of the European Green Deal, where all Member States are to become climate neutral
