    A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems

    This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers.     Fault estimation and active fault tolerant control for linear parameter varying descriptor systems

    Starting with the baseline controller design, this paper proposes an integrated approach of active fault tolerant control based on proportional derivative extended state observer (PDESO) for linear parameter varying descriptor systems. The PDESO can simultaneously provide the estimates of the system states, sensor faults, and actuator faults. The L₂ robust performance of the closed-loop system to bounded exogenous disturbance and bounded uncertainty is achieved by a two-step design procedure adapted from the traditional observer-based controller design. Furthermore, an LMI pole-placement region and the L₂ robustness performance are combined into a multiobjective formulation by suitably combing the appropriate LMI descriptions. A parameter-varying system example is given to illustrate the design procedure and the validity of the proposed integrated design approach

    Robust controller design for input-delayed systems using predictive feedback and an uncertainty estimator

    [EN] This paper deals with the problem of stabilizing a class of input-delayed systems with (possibly) nonlinear uncertainties by using explicit delay compensation. It is well known that plain predictive schemes lack robustness with respect to uncertain model parameters. In this work, an uncertainty estimator is derived for input-delay systems and combined with a modified state predictor, which uses current available information of the estimated uncertainties. Furthermore, based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, a computable criterion to check robust stability of the closed-loop is developed and cast into a minimization problem constrained to an LMI. Additionally, for a given input delay, an iterative-LMI algorithm is proposed to design stabilizing tuning parameters.     H ? filtering for stochastic singular fuzzy systems with time-varying delay

    This paper considers the H? filtering problem for stochastic singular fuzzy systems with timevarying delay. We assume that the state and measurement are corrupted by stochastic uncertain exogenous disturbance and that the system dynamic is modeled by Ito-type stochastic differential equations. Based on an auxiliary vector and an integral inequality, a set of delay-dependent sufficient conditions is established, which ensures that the filtering error system is e?t - weighted integral input-to-state stable in mean (iISSiM). A fuzzy filter is designed such that the filtering error system is impulse-free, e?t -weighted iISSiM and the H? attenuation level from disturbance to estimation error is belowa prescribed scalar.Aset of sufficient conditions for the solvability of the H? filtering problem is obtained in terms of a new type of Lyapunov function and a set of linear matrix inequalities. Simulation examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed filtering approach developed in this paper

    Zonotopic fault detection observer design for Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy systems

    This paper considers zonotopic fault detection observer design in the finite-frequency domain for discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy systems with unknown but bounded disturbances and measurement noise. We present a novel fault detection observer structure, which is more general than the commonly used Luenberger form. To make the generated residual sensitive to faults and robust against disturbances, we develop a finite-frequency fault detection observer based on generalised Kalman–Yakubovich–Popov lemma and P-radius criterion. The design conditions are expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The major merit of the proposed method is that residual evaluation can be easily implemented via zonotopic approach.     H ∞  sliding mode observer design for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay systems: A delay-fractioning approach

    Copyright @ 2012 John Wiley & SonsIn this paper, the H ∞  sliding mode observer (SMO) design problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay systems. The nonlinear descriptions quantify the maximum possible derivations from a linear model, and the system states are allowed to be immeasurable. Attention is focused on the design of a discrete-time SMO such that the asymptotic stability as well as the H ∞  performance requirement of the error dynamics can be guaranteed in the presence of nonlinearities, time delay and external disturbances. Firstly, a discrete-time discontinuous switched term is proposed to make sure that the reaching condition holds. Then, by constructing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional based on the idea of ‘delay fractioning’ and by introducing some appropriate free-weighting matrices, a sufficient condition is established to guarantee the desired performance of the error dynamics in the specified sliding mode surface by solving a minimization problem. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the designed SMO design scheme

    General computational approach for optimal fault detection

    We propose a new computational approach to solve the optimal fault detection problem in the most general setting. The proposed procedure is free of any technical assumptions and is applicable to both proper and non-proper systems. This procedure forms the basis of an integrated numerically reliable state-space algorithm, which relies on powerful descriptor systems techniques to solve the underlying computational subproblems.
