Modeling image databases using Xml schema
This thesis presents a model for still images in order to support content-based querying and browsing by hierarchical tree structures and object relational graphs. We use the extensible markup language (XML) schema to illustrate and exemplify the proposed model because of its interoperability and flexibility advantages. Of primary interest is the notion of complex types and referential integrity to fully describe the physical and semantic properties of images. XQuery is used to support query processing. We further show how these complex types of XML schema can be used to overcome the shortcomings of reported image database descriptions in the literature
Modellgetriebene Entwicklung inhaltsbasierter Bildretrieval-Systeme auf der Basis von objektrelationalen Datenbank-Management-Systeme
In this thesis, the model-driven software development paradigm is employed in order to support the development of Content-based Image Retrieval Systems (CBIRS) for different application domains.
Modeling techniques, based on an adaptable conceptual framework model, are proposed for deriving the components of a concrete CBIRS. Transformation techniques are defined to automatically implement the derived application specific models in an object-relational database management system. A set of criteria assuring the quality of the transformation are derived from the theory for preserving information capacity applied in database design.
Enabling Ubiquitous OLAP Analyses
An OLAP analysis session is carried out as a sequence of OLAP operations applied to multidimensional cubes. At each step of a session, an operation is applied to the result of the previous step in an incremental fashion. Due to its simplicity and flexibility, OLAP is the most adopted paradigm used to explore the data stored in data warehouses. With the goal of expanding the fruition of OLAP analyses, in this thesis we touch several critical topics. We first present our contributions to deal with data extractions from service-oriented sources, which are nowadays used to provide access to many databases and analytic platforms. By addressing data extraction from these sources we make a step towards the integration of external databases into the data warehouse, thus providing richer data that can be analyzed through OLAP sessions. The second topic that we study is that of visualization of multidimensional data, which we exploit to enable OLAP on devices with limited screen and bandwidth capabilities (i.e., mobile devices). Finally, we propose solutions to obtain multidimensional schemata from unconventional sources (e.g., sensor networks), which are crucial to perform multidimensional analyses
Provable and Practical Security for Database Outsourcing
In this work, we provide formal notions for different privacy goals of data outsourcing and establish their relations. Furthermore, as a main contribution, we provide a meaningful security notion for database outsourcing and a practical scheme fulfilling this notion as well as implementations that demonstrate the viability. We prove the security of our scheme in a formal model and provide extensions an optimisations for performance as well as for security
Fish4Knowledge: Collecting and Analyzing Massive Coral Reef Fish Video Data
This book gives a start-to-finish overview of the whole Fish4Knowledge project, in 18 short chapters, each describing one aspect of the project. The Fish4Knowledge project explored the possibilities of big video data, in this case from undersea video. Recording and analyzing 90 thousand hours of video from ten camera locations, the project gives a 3 year view of fish abundance in several tropical coral reefs off the coast of Taiwan. The research system built a remote recording network, over 100 Tb of storage, supercomputer processing, video target detection and
Social work with airports passengers
Social work at the airport is in to offer to passengers social services. The main
methodological position is that people are under stress, which characterized by a
particular set of characteristics in appearance and behavior. In such circumstances
passenger attracts in his actions some attention. Only person whom he trusts can help him
with the documents or psychologically
