Knowledge donating and hiding as an organizational basis for intersectoral collaboration: a review of the literature

    Get PDF
The present article presents a literature review on the relationship between knowledge donating and hiding strategies as an organizational basis for intersectoral collaboration. The literature finds that sharing or hiding behavior is a question of individual motivation, which can affect the collaboration process among individuals in a public or private organization.  An understanding of this motivation can help organizations to transform their management strategies, thus improving internal and inter-organizational collaboration processes. The review identified various strategies— motivational, social, and national cultural—that are considered to influence individual and group creative capacity and, in turn, on social and technological innovation, the creation of competitive advantage within an organization, and the development of social responsibility policies. The results indicate a lack of consensus regarding motivations, as well as a limited depth of knowledge regarding the behavioral strategies involved in knowledge hiding.

The present paper addresses the need for a quantitative model for media entrepreneurship. In a framework of social media entrepreneurship that is presented by khajeheian (2013), 23 factors are introduced and categorized in five groups. Four groups of enterprise, resources, strategy and product are controllable and infrastructure is the uncontrollable group. In the current research, these groups are considered as variables and factors are used as measures. In a survey 305 Iranian students responded a questionnaire. SEM and MLP-ANN used for analysis. Results show that resources are on the highest rank, strategy and infrastructure are placed as 2nd and 3rd and enterprise and product placed at the lowest rank. This model can be used as a foundation for developing more quantitative researches in the subject of media entrepreneurship.

This report is concerned with the vision of smart interconnected objects, a vision that has attracted much attention lately. In this paper, embedded, interconnected, open, and heterogeneous control systems are in focus, formally referred to as Federated Embedded Systems. To place FES into a context, a review of some related research directions is presented. This review includes such concepts as systems of systems, cyber-physical systems, ubiquitous computing, internet of things, and multi-agent systems. Interestingly, the reviewed fields seem to overlap with each other in an increasing number of ways

Dynamic Model-based Management of Service-Oriented Infrastructure.

Models are an effective tool for systems and software design. They allow software architects to abstract from the non-relevant details. Those qualities are also useful for the technical management of networks, systems and software, such as those that compose service oriented architectures. Models can provide a set of well-defined abstractions over the distributed heterogeneous service infrastructure that enable its automated management. We propose to use the managed system as a source of dynamically generated runtime models, and decompose management processes into a composition of model transformations. We have created an autonomic service deployment and configuration architecture that obtains, analyzes, and transforms system models to apply the required actions, while being oblivious to the low-level details. An instrumentation layer automatically builds these models and interprets the planned management actions to the system. We illustrate these concepts with a distributed service update operation

Integrating vendors into cooperative design practices

This paper describes a new approach to cooperative design using distributed, off-the-shelf design components. The ultimate goal is to enable assemblers to rapidly design their products and perform simulations using parts that are offered by a global network of suppliers. The obvious way to realise this goal would be to transfer desired component models to the client computer. However, in order to protect proprietary data, manufacturers are reluctant to share their design models without non-disclosure agreements, which can take in the order of months to put in place. Due to bandwidth limitations, it is also impractical to keep the models at the manufacturer site and do simulations by simple message passing. To deal with these impediments in e-commerce the modular distributed modelling (MDM) methodology is leveraged, which enables transfer of component models while hiding proprietary implementation details. MDM methodology with routine design (RD) methods are augmented to realise a platform (RD-MDM) that enables automatic selection of secured off-the-shelf design components over the Internet, integration of these components in an assembly, running simulations for design testing and publishing the approved product model as a secured MDM agent. This paper demonstrates the capabilities of the RD-MDM platform on a fuel cell-battery hybrid vehicle design example.Publisher's VersionAuthor Post Prin

UNDERSTANDING NARCISSISTS’ KNOWLEDGE HIDING BEHAVIOUR: A MORAL DISENGAGEMENT MECHANISM PERSPECTIVE

Purpose:  Narcissistic people have a strong desire to hold focus only around themselves. Their self-love triggers them to create their monopoly and involve in deviant behavioral outcomes such as knowledge hiding. This study was aimed to examine narcissistic employees’ tendency of knowledge hiding behavior in the presence of underlying mechanisms: moral disengagement as mediator.   Methodology:  The Data were collected from banking sector professionals using a Likert scale questionnaire based on time-lagged (three rounds, one month apart) survey. Data were analyzed via Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using an advanced version of Smart PLS 3.9 and SPSS 21.  Findings:   Results revealed that narcissism has a significant positive relation with knowledge hiding and also established moral disengagement as an underlying mechanism between the positive association of narcissism and knowledge hiding. The results provide important recommendations for managers to handle narcissistic personalities and knowledge hiding issues in the banking sector of Pakistan.   Conclusion:  Despite the limitations, the present study enhanced the current knowledge on narcissistic personality features through the moral disengagement perspective with knowledge hiding and enriching the validation of the social cognitive theory. The study results conclude that the banking sector of Pakistan must consider the narcissistic personality of employees behind their issue of knowledge hiding

A survey on factors that impact industrial agent acceptance

Although the agent technology has been with us some decades now, its acceptance in industry is still limited. As such, we conducted a survey and investigated the main factors that impact it. Thus, key industrial agent aspects are investigated-i.e., design, technology, intelligence/algorithms, standardization, hardware, challenges, applications, and cost. The results are analyzed and discussed, confirming that a decision on agent utilization in productive industrial systems is a complex undertaking, and there are still many issues to be resolved in order to lead to a wider acceptance of industrial agents.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
