    A Systematic Survey of ML Datasets for Prime CV Research Areas-Media and Metadata

    The ever-growing capabilities of computers have enabled pursuing Computer Vision through Machine Learning (i.e., MLCV). ML tools require large amounts of information to learn from (ML datasets). These are costly to produce but have received reduced attention regarding standardization. This prevents the cooperative production and exploitation of these resources, impedes countless synergies, and hinders ML research. No global view exists of the MLCV dataset tissue. Acquiring it is fundamental to enable standardization. We provide an extensive survey of the evolution and current state of MLCV datasets (1994 to 2019) for a set of specific CV areas as well as a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results. Data were gathered from online scientific databases (e.g., Google Scholar, CiteSeerX). We reveal the heterogeneous plethora that comprises the MLCV dataset tissue; their continuous growth in volume and complexity; the specificities of the evolution of their media and metadata components regarding a range of aspects; and that MLCV progress requires the construction of a global standardized (structuring, manipulating, and sharing) MLCV "library". Accordingly, we formulate a novel interpretation of this dataset collective as a global tissue of synthetic cognitive visual memories and define the immediately necessary steps to advance its standardization and integration

    Geospatial data analysis in Russia’s geoweb

    The chapter examines the role of geospatial data in Russia’s online ecosystem. Facilitated by the rise of geographic information systems and user-generated content, the distribution of geospatial data has blurred the line between physical spaces and their virtual representations. The chapter discusses different sources of these data available for Digital Russian Studies (e.g., social data and crowdsourced databases) together with the novel techniques for extracting geolocation from various data formats (e.g., textual documents and images). It also scrutinizes different ways of using these data, varying from mapping the spatial distribution of social and political phenomena to investigating the use of geotag data for cultural practices’ digitization to exploring the use of geoweb for narrating individual and collective identities online

    A Review on MAS-Based Sentiment and Stress Analysis User-Guiding and Risk-Prevention Systems in Social Network Analysis

    [EN] In the current world we live immersed in online applications, being one of the most present of them Social Network Sites (SNSs), and different issues arise from this interaction. Therefore, there is a need for research that addresses the potential issues born from the increasing user interaction when navigating. For this reason, in this survey we explore works in the line of prevention of risks that can arise from social interaction in online environments, focusing on works using Multi-Agent System (MAS) technologies. For being able to assess what techniques are available for prevention, works in the detection of sentiment polarity and stress levels of users in SNSs will be reviewed. We review with special attention works using MAS technologies for user recommendation and guiding.     Based on the information provided by European projects and national initiatives related to multimedia search as well as domains experts that participated in the CHORUS Think-thanks and workshops, this document reports on the state of the art related to multimedia content search from, a technical, and socio-economic perspective. The technical perspective includes an up to date view on content based indexing and retrieval technologies, multimedia search in the context of mobile devices and peer-to-peer networks, and an overview of current evaluation and benchmark inititiatives to measure the performance of multimedia search engines. From a socio-economic perspective we inventorize the impact and legal consequences of these technical advances and point out future directions of research

    Soundscape design of water features used in outdoor spaces where road traffic noise is audible

    This research focused on the soundscape design of a wide range of small to medium sized water features (waterfalls, fountains with upward jet(s), and streams) which can be used in gardens or parks for promoting peacefulness and relaxation in the presence of road traffic noise. Firstly, the thesis examined the audio-visual interaction and perceptual assessment of water features, including the semantic components and the qualitative categorisation and evocation of water sounds; and secondly, the thesis investigated the effectiveness of the water features tested in promoting relaxation through sound mapping. Different laboratory tests were carried out, and these included paired comparison tests (audio-only, visual-only and audio-visual tests), semantic differential tests, as well as tests aimed at the qualitative categorisation and evocation of water features. Sound maps of the water generated sounds were developed through the use of propagation models based on either point or line sources. Three acoustic zones (‘water sounds dominant zone’, ‘optimum zone’ and ‘RTN dominant zone’ (RTN: road traffic noise)) were defined in the maps as the zones where relaxation/pleasantness can be promoted over a 20 m × 20 m area for different road traffic noise levels. Paired comparisons highlighted the interdependence between uni-modal (audio-only or visual-only) and bi-modal (audio-visual) perception, indicating that equal attention should be given to the design of both stimuli. In general, natural looking features tended to increase preference scores (compared to audio-only paired comparison scores), while manmade looking features decreased them. Semantic descriptors showed significant correlations with preferences and were found to be more reliable design criteria than physical parameters. A principal component analysis identified three components within the nine semantic attributes tested: “emotional assessment,” “sound quality,” and “envelopment and temporal variation.” The first two showed significant correlations with audio-only preferences, “emotional assessment” being the most important predictor of preferences, and its attributes naturalness, relaxation, and freshness also being significantly correlated with preferences. Categorisation results indicated that natural stream sounds are easily identifiable (unlike waterfalls and fountains), while evocation results showed no unique relationship with preferences. The results of sound maps indicated that small to medium sized water features can be used mainly in environments where road traffic noise levels are equal or lower than 65 dBA

For this purpose, we developed auditory and visual attention models that enable robotic platforms to efficiently explore and analyze natural scenes.
