    Digitized enhanced Feher quadrature phase-shift keying (EFQPSK) can be realized with a set of parameters that define its efficiency relative to analog EFQPSK and quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK). Both sampling frequency and quantization play a significant role in developing an EFQPSK signal that resembles its analog counterpart in spectral efficiency, envelope fluctuation, and BER. Sampling frequency and quantization can be used to determine spectral efficiency as compared to analog EFQPSK and QPSK. Through simulation, this study compares and quantifies trade-offs between spectral efficiency, envelope fluctuation, and BER. By quantifying the trade-off between these parameters, system designers can quickly determine how to meet bandwidth efficiency and power efficiency requirements

    Livrable d'un projet Européen EMPHATICLike other multicarrier modulation techniques, FBMC suffers from high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), impacting its performance in the presence of a nonlinear high power amplifier (HPA) in two ways. The first impact is an in-band distortion affecting the error rate performance of the link. The second impact is an out-of-band effect appearing as power spectral density (PSD) regrowth, making the coexistence between FBMC based broad-band Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) systems with existing narrowband systems difficult to achieve. This report addresses first the theoretical analysis of in-band HPA distortions in terms of Bit Error Rate. Also, the out-of band impact of HPA nonlinearities is studied in terms of PSD regrowth prediction. Furthermore, the problem of PAPR reduction is addressed along with some HPA linearization techniques and nonlinearity compensation approaches

    Efficient SAR MTI simulator of marine scenes

    Tècniques de detecció de moviment amb radars d'apertura sintètica multicanals sobre escenaris marítims.[ANGLÈS] Multichannel spaceborne and airborne synthetic aperture radars (SAR) offer the opportunity to monitor maritime traffic through specially designed instruments and applying a suitable signal processing in order to reject sea surface clutter. These processing techniques are known as Moving Target Indication techniques (MTI) and the choice of the most adequate method depends on the radar system and operating environment. In maritime scenes the seas presents a complicated clutter whose temporal/spatial coherence models and background reflectivity depends on a large number of factors and are still subject of research. Moreover the targets kinematics are influenced by the sea conditions, producing in some situations high alterations in the imaged target. These aspects make difficult the detectability analysis of vessels in maritime scenarios, requiring both theoretical models and numerical simulations. This thesis looks into the few available MTI techniques and deals experimentally with them in a developed simulator for maritime SAR images. The results are also presented in a image format, giving the sequence for one trial simulation and the asymptotic probability of detection for the simulated conditions.[CASTELLÀ] Los radares de apertura sintética (SAR) multicanal a bordo de satélites o plataformas aerotransportadas ofrecen la oportunidad de monitorizar el tráfico marítimo a través de instrumentos especialmente diseñados y procesando los datos recibidos de forma adecuada para rechazar la señal provocada por la reflexión del mar. A estas técnicas se las conoce como Moving Target Indication techniques (MTI) y la elección de la más adecuada depende del sistema y del entorno de aplicación. En escenarios marinos, el mar presenta un clutter complicado de modelar, cuya coherencia espacio-temporal y reflectividad radar dependen de un gran número de factores que hoy en día todavía siguen siendo investigados. Por otra parte los parámetros dinámicos del target estan influenciados por las condiciones del mar, produciendo en algunas situaciones graves alteraciones en la formación de la imagen. Estos aspectos dificultan el análisis de la detección de las embarcaciones, requiriendo modelos teóricos y simulaciones numéricas. Este Proyecto Final de Carrera investiga las técnicas MTI disponibles, aplicándolas sobre las imágenes marítimas generadas por un simulador SAR. Los resultados son la generación de los productos MTI en formato imagen y el cálculo de la probabilidad de detección para cada target.[CATALÀ] Els radars d'obertura sintètica (SAR) multicanal embarcats en satèl·lits o plataformes aerotransportades ofereixen l'oportunitat de monitoritzar el tràfic marítim a través d'instruments especialment dissenyats i processant les dades rebudes de forma adequada per rebutjar la senyal provocada per la reflexió del mar. A aquestes tècniques se les coneix com Moving Target indication techniques (MTI) i l'elecció de la més adequada depèn del sistema i de l'entorn d'aplicació. En escenaris marins, el mar presenta un clutter complicat de modelar, la coherència espai-temporal i reflectivitat radar depenen d'un gran nombre de factors que avui dia encara segueixen sent investigats. D'altra banda els paràmetres dinàmics del target estan influenciats per les condicions de la mar, produint en algunes situacions greus alteracions en la formació de la imatge. Aquests aspectes dificulten l'anàlisi de la detecció de les embarcacions, requerint models teòrics i simulacions numèriques. Aquest Projecte Final de Carrera investiga les tècniques MTI disponibles, aplicant-les sobre les imatges marítimes generades per un simulador SAR.     Study of information transfer optimization for communication satellites

    The results are presented of a study of source coding, modulation/channel coding, and systems techniques for application to teleconferencing over high data rate digital communication satellite links. Simultaneous transmission of video, voice, data, and/or graphics is possible in various teleconferencing modes and one-way, two-way, and broadcast modes are considered. A satellite channel model including filters, limiter, a TWT, detectors, and an optimized equalizer is treated in detail. A complete analysis is presented for one set of system assumptions which exclude nonlinear gain and phase distortion in the TWT. Modulation, demodulation, and channel coding are considered, based on an additive white Gaussian noise channel model which is an idealization of an equalized channel. Source coding with emphasis on video data compression is reviewed, and the experimental facility utilized to test promising techniques is fully described

    Contributions to channel modelling and performance estimation of HAPS-based communication systems regarding IEEE Std 802.16TM

    New and future telecommunication networks are and will be broadband type. The existing terrestrial and space radio communication infrastructures might be supplemented by new wireless networks that make and will make use of aeronautics-technology. Our study/contribution is referring to radio communications based on radio stations aboard a stratospheric platform named, by ITU-R, HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station). These new networks have been proposed as an alternative technology within the ITU framework to provide various narrow/broadband communication services. With the possibility of having a payload for Telecommunications in an aircraft or a balloon (HAPS), it can be carried out radio communications to provide backbone connections on ground and to access to broadband points for ground terminals. The latest implies a complex radio network planning. Therefore, the radio coverage analysis at outdoors and indoors becomes an important issue on the design of new radio systems. In this doctoral thesis, the contribution is related to the HAPS application for terrestrial fixed broadband communications. HAPS was hypothesised as a quasi-static platform with height above ground at the so-called stratospheric layer. Latter contribution was fulfilled by approaching via simulations the outdoor-indoor coverage with a simple efficient computational model at downlink mode. This work was assessing the ITU-R recommendations at bands recognised for the HAPS-based networks. It was contemplated the possibility of operating around 2 GHz (1820 MHz, specifically) because this band is recognised as an alternative for HAPS networks that can provide IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced services. The global broadband radio communication model was composed of three parts: transmitter, channel, and receiver. The transmitter and receiver parts were based on the specifications of the IEEE Std 802.16TM-2009 (with its respective digital transmission techniques for a robust-reliable link), and the channel was subjected to the analysis of radio modelling at the level of HAPS and terrestrial (outdoors plus indoors) parts. For the channel modelling was used the two-state characterisation (physical situations associated with the transmitted/received signals), the state-oriented channel modelling. One of the channel-state contemplated the environmental transmission situation defined by a direct path between transmitter and receiver, and the remaining one regarded the conditions of shadowing. These states were dependent on the elevation angle related to the ray-tracing analysis: within the propagation environment, it was considered that a representative portion of the total energy of the signal was received by a direct or diffracted wave, and the remaining power signal was coming by a specular wave, to last-mentioned waves (rays) were added the scattered and random rays that constituted the diffuse wave. At indoors case, the variations of the transmitted signal were also considering the following matters additionally: the building penetration, construction material, angle of incidence, floor height, position of terminal in the room, and indoor fading; also, these indoors radiocommunications presented different type of paths to reach the receiver: obscured LOS, no LOS (NLOS), and hard NLOS. The evaluation of the feasible performance for the HAPS-to-ground terminal was accomplished by means of thorough simulations. The outcomes of the experiment were presented in terms of BER vs. Eb/N0 plotting, getting significant positive conclusions for these kind of system as access network technology based on HAPS
