Scalable XML Collaborative Editing with Undo short paper
Commutative Replicated Data-Type (CRDT) is a new class of algorithms that
ensures scalable consistency of replicated data. It has been successfully
applied to collaborative editing of texts without complex concurrency control.
In this paper, we present a CRDT to edit XML data. Compared to existing
approaches for XML collaborative editing, our approach is more scalable and
handles all the XML editing aspects : elements, contents, attributes and undo.
Indeed, undo is recognized as an important feature for collaborative editing
that allows to overcome system complexity through error recovery or
collaborative conflict resolution

Storage Solutions for Big Data Systems: A Qualitative Study and Comparison
Big data systems development is full of challenges in view of the variety of
application areas and domains that this technology promises to serve.
Typically, fundamental design decisions involved in big data systems design
include choosing appropriate storage and computing infrastructures. In this age
of heterogeneous systems that integrate different technologies for optimized
solution to a specific real world problem, big data system are not an exception
to any such rule. As far as the storage aspect of any big data system is
concerned, the primary facet in this regard is a storage infrastructure and
NoSQL seems to be the right technology that fulfills its requirements. However,
every big data application has variable data characteristics and thus, the
corresponding data fits into a different data model. This paper presents
feature and use case analysis and comparison of the four main data models
namely document oriented, key value, graph and wide column. Moreover, a feature
analysis of 80 NoSQL solutions has been provided, elaborating on the criteria
and points that a developer must consider while making a possible choice.
Typically, big data storage needs to communicate with the execution engine and
other processing and visualization technologies to create a comprehensive
solution. This brings forth second facet of big data storage, big data file
formats, into picture. The second half of the research paper compares the
advantages, shortcomings and possible use cases of available big data file
formats for Hadoop, which is the foundation for most big data computing
technologies. Decentralized storage and blockchain are seen as the next
generation of big data storage and its challenges and future prospects have
also been discussed

The construction of a large class of distributed systems can be simplified by leveraging middleware, which is layered between network operating systems and application components. Middleware resolves heterogeneity and facilitates communication and coordination of distributed components. Existing middleware products enable software engineers to build systems that are distributed across a local-area network. State-of-the-art middleware research aims to push this boundary towards Internet-scale distribution, adaptive and reconfigurable middleware and middleware for dependable and wireless systems. Investigation into Mobile Learning Framework in Cloud Computing Platform
Abstract—Cloud computing infrastructure is increasingly
used for distributed applications. Mobile learning
applications deployed in the cloud are a new research
direction. The applications require specific development
approaches for effective and reliable communication. This
paper proposes an interdisciplinary approach for design and
development of mobile applications in the cloud. The
approach includes front service toolkit and backend service
toolkit. The front service toolkit packages data and sends it
to a backend deployed in a cloud computing platform. The
backend service toolkit manages rules and workflow, and
then transmits required results to the front service toolkit.
To further show feasibility of the approach, the paper
introduces a case study and shows its performance
BlogForever D3.2: Interoperability Prospects
This report evaluates the interoperability prospects of the BlogForever platform. Therefore, existing interoperability models are reviewed, a Delphi study to identify crucial aspects for the interoperability of web archives and digital libraries is conducted, technical interoperability standards and protocols are reviewed regarding their relevance for BlogForever, a simple approach to consider interoperability in specific usage scenarios is proposed, and a tangible approach to develop a succession plan that would allow a reliable transfer of content from the current digital archive to other digital repositories is presented
Implementing Session Centered Calculi
Recently, specific attention has been devoted to the development of service oriented process calculi. Besides the foundational aspects, it is also interesting to have prototype implementations for them in order to assess usability and to minimize the gap between theory and practice. Typically, these implementations are done in Java taking advantage of its mechanisms supporting network applications. However, most of the recurrent features of service oriented applications are re-implemented from scratch. In this paper we show how to implement a service oriented calculus, CaSPiS (Calculus of Services with Pipelines and Sessions) using the Java framework IMC, where recurrent mechanisms for network applications are already provided. By using the session oriented and pattern matching communication mechanisms provided by IMC, it is relatively simple to implement in Java all CaSPiS abstractions and thus to easily write the implementation in Java of a CaSPiS process
