From supply chains to demand networks. Agents in retailing: the electrical bazaar
A paradigm shift is taking place in logistics. The focus is changing from operational effectiveness to adaptation. Supply Chains will develop into networks that will adapt to consumer demand in almost real time. Time to market, capacity of adaptation and enrichment of customer experience seem to be the key elements of this new paradigm. In this environment emerging technologies like RFID (Radio Frequency ID), Intelligent Products and the Internet, are triggering a reconsideration of methods, procedures and goals. We present a Multiagent System framework specialized in retail that addresses these changes with the use of rational agents and takes advantages of the new market opportunities. Like in an old bazaar, agents able to learn, cooperate, take advantage of gossip and distinguish between collaborators and competitors, have the ability to adapt, learn and react to a changing environment better than any other structure. An ontology-based representation of an agent-based controlled robotic cell

As such, industries have to adapt their manufacturing systems more frequently in order to remain competitive. Changing manufacturing systems within a short period of time requires a huge effort in terms of time and money, reducing this effort would make industries more competitive. The proposed solution consists in developing an ontology-based multi-agent system to control manufacturing systems. Defining the ontology for the manufacturing system allows the control to perform its operation, and when changes arise, it is required to change the ontology so that the control became aware of the changes to control the manufacturing system. An ontology-based control allows for a smaller setup time since the control is not specific for one physical system and can be applied to different ones, therefore it reduces the effort in adapting manufacturing systems to required changes allowing industries to became more competitive. Flexibility is given by the multi-agent system that controls the physical system with the ontology. Stating this, the solution of an ontology-based control for manufacturing systems provides the required results
Federated Embedded Systems – a review of the literature in related fields
This report is concerned with the vision of smart interconnected objects, a vision that has attracted much attention lately. In this paper, embedded, interconnected, open, and heterogeneous control systems are in focus, formally referred to as Federated Embedded Systems. To place FES into a context, a review of some related research directions is presented. This review includes such concepts as systems of systems, cyber-physical systems, ubiquitous
computing, internet of things, and multi-agent systems. Interestingly, the reviewed fields seem to overlap with each other in an increasing number of ways
Discovering location based services: A unified approach for heterogeneous indoor localization systems
The technological solutions and communication capabilities offered by the Internet of
Things paradigm, in terms of raising availability of wearable devices, the ubiquitous internet connection, and the presence on the market of service-oriented solutions, have allowed
a wide proposal of Location Based Services (LBS). In a close future, we foresee that companies and service providers will have developed reliable solutions to address indoor positioning, as basis for useful location based services. These solutions will be different from
each other and they will adopt different hardware and processing techniques. This paper
describes the proposal of a unified approach for Indoor Localization Systems that enables
the cooperation between heterogeneous solutions and their functional modules. To this
end, we designed an integrated architecture that, abstracting its main components, allows
a seamless interaction among them. Finally, we present a working prototype of such architecture, which is based on the popular Telegram application for Android, as an integration
demonstrator. The integration of the three main phases –namely the discovery phase, the
User Agent self-configuration, and the indoor map retrieval/rendering– demonstrates the
feasibility of the proposed integrated architectur
City Data Fusion: Sensor Data Fusion in the Internet of Things
Internet of Things (IoT) has gained substantial attention recently and play a
significant role in smart city application deployments. A number of such smart
city applications depend on sensor fusion capabilities in the cloud from
diverse data sources. We introduce the concept of IoT and present in detail ten
different parameters that govern our sensor data fusion evaluation framework.
We then evaluate the current state-of-the art in sensor data fusion against our
sensor data fusion framework. Our main goal is to examine and survey different
sensor data fusion research efforts based on our evaluation framework. The
