The process of predicting student performance has become a crucial factor in academic environment and plays significant role in producing quality graduates. Several statistical and machine learning algorithms have been proposed for analyzing, predicting and classifying student performance. However, these classification algorithms still posed issue in terms of the performance classification. This paper presents a method to predict student performance using Iterative dichotomiser 3 (ID3), C4.5 and Classification and Regression tree (CART). The experiment was performed on Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis (Weka). The experimental results showed that an ID3 accuracy of 95.9% , specificity of 95.9%, precision of 95.9%, recall of 95.9%, f-measure of 95.9% and incorrectly classified instance of 3.83. The C4.5 gave an accuracy of 98.3%, specificity of 98.3%, precision of 98.4%, recall of 98.3%, f-measure of 98.3% and incorrectly classified instance of 1.70. The CART results showed an accuracy of 98.3%, specificity of 98.3%, precision of 98.4%, recall of 98.3%, f-measure of 98.3% and incorrectly classified instance of 1.70. The time taken to build the model of ID3 is 0.05 seconds, C4.5 is 0.03 seconds and CART of 0.58 seconds. Experimental results revealed that C4.5 outperforms other classifiers and requires reasonable amount of time to build the model. Keywords: Student performance, ID3, C4.5, CART, classification, Education data minin

A Community-based Cloud Computing Caching Service

Caching has become an important technology in the development of cloud computing-based high-performance web services. Caches reduce the request to response latency experienced by users, and reduce workload on backend databases. They need a high cache-hit rate to be fit for purpose, and this rate is dependent on the cache management policy used. Existing cache management policies are not designed to prevent cache pollution or cache monopoly problems, which impacts negatively on the cache-hit rate. This paper proposes a community-based caching approach (CC) to address these two problems. CC was evaluated for performance against thirteen commercially available cache management policies, and results demonstrate that the cache-hit rate achieved by CC was between 0.7% and 55% better than the alternate cache management policies

The continued development of technology , the radio is now an assortment of ease in establishing interaction directly to the audience so that no limitations of distance and time to communicate with each other . One of the local radio located in the city of Pekanbaru is independent FM radio, a radio company that is engaged in the media of course also apply good management such as planning, organizing, implementing up on stage in order to create effective monitoring of performance and quality of the radio. In addition it is no less important part of a radio ad that is on the main source of income from media such as radio, in order to produce quality advertising the main functions of management should also be applied in the production process so that the resulting advertisement competitiveness and accordance with the request of the advertiser. This study aims to determine how the advertising production management conducted by independent radio 98.3 FM Pekanbaru such as production planning, organizing production, production to execution stage production supervision ads. This study uses qualitative descriptive approach. The study is located in a standalone FM radio, streets Tambusai lord no. 07 Pekanbaru with production management research object advertising on independent FM radio and a subject of research is the general manager, program manager, finance, marketing, creative, production, broadcasters and advertisers with some data collection techniques using in-depth observation and interviews and documentation .The results of this study showed Applied management in the production process of advertising done by independent FM radio like a stage production planning, organizing or sharing tasks are handled according to the field, then the implementation of the production process from scripting to the ad and the last stage is a supervisory control of all activities that have been carried out in order to be evaluated in order to create better results than before.Keyword: Managament, Radio, Communication, Mass Media, Advertaising

Loss Functions for Top-k Error: Analysis and Insights

In order to push the performance on realistic computer vision tasks, the number of classes in modern benchmark datasets has significantly increased in recent years. This increase in the number of classes comes along with increased ambiguity between the class labels, raising the question if top-1 error is the right performance measure. In this paper, we provide an extensive comparison and evaluation of established multiclass methods comparing their top-k performance both from a practical as well as from a theoretical perspective. Moreover, we introduce novel top-k loss functions as modifications of the softmax and the multiclass SVM losses and provide efficient optimization schemes for them. In the experiments, we compare on various datasets all of the proposed and established methods for top-k error optimization. An interesting insight of this paper is that the softmax loss yields competitive top-k performance for all k simultaneously. For a specific top-k error, our new top-k losses lead typically to further improvements while being faster to train than the softmax.Comment: In Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 201

Adjusted empirical likelihood with high-order precision

Empirical likelihood is a popular nonparametric or semi-parametric statistical method with many nice statistical properties. Yet when the sample size is small, or the dimension of the accompanying estimating function is high, the application of the empirical likelihood method can be hindered by low precision of the chi-square approximation and by nonexistence of solutions to the estimating equations. In this paper, we show that the adjusted empirical likelihood is effective at addressing both problems. With a specific level of adjustment, the adjusted empirical likelihood achieves the high-order precision of the Bartlett correction, in addition to the advantage of a guaranteed solution to the estimating equations. Simulation results indicate that the confidence regions constructed by the adjusted empirical likelihood have coverage probabilities comparable to or substantially more accurate than the original empirical likelihood enhanced by the Bartlett correction.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/09-AOS750 the Annals of Statistics (http://www.imstat.org/aos/) by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (http://www.imstat.org
