Signal Enhancement by Single Channel Source Separation
Most gadgets and electronics devices are commonly equipped with single microphone only. This is difficult task in source separation world which traditionally required more sensors than sources to achieve better performance. In this paper we evaluated single channel source separation to enhance target signal from interred noise. The method we used is non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) that decompose signal into its components and find the matched signal to target speaker. As objective evaluation, coherence score is used to measure the perceptual similarity from enhanced to original one. It show the extracted has 0.5 of average coherence that shows medium correlation between both signals
Linear Invariant Systems Theory for Signal Enhancement
This paper discusses a linear time invariant (LTI) systems approach to signal enhancement via projective subspace techniques. It provides closed form expressions for the frequency response of data adaptive finite impulse response eigenfilters. An illustrative example using speech enhancement is also presented.
Ultrasonic signal enhancement by resonator techniques
Ultrasonic resonators increase experimental sensitivity to acoustic dispersion and changes in attenuation. Experimental sensitivity enhancement line shapes are presented which were obtained by modulating the acoustic properties of a CdS resonator with a light beam. Small changes in light level are made to produce almost pure absorptive or dispersive changes in the resonator signal. This effect is due to the coupling of the ultrasonic wave to the CdS conductivity which is proportional to incident light intensity. The resonator conductivity is adjusted in this manner to obtain both dispersive and absorptive sensitivity enhancement line shapes. The data presented verify previous thoretical calculations based on a propagating wave model

Perceptually Motivated Wavelet Packet Transform for Bioacoustic Signal Enhancement
A significant and often unavoidable problem in bioacoustic signal processing is the presence of background noise due to an adverse recording environment. This paper proposes a new bioacoustic signal enhancement technique which can be used on a wide range of species. The technique is based on a perceptually scaled wavelet packet decomposition using a species-specific Greenwood scale function. Spectral estimation techniques, similar to those used for human speech enhancement, are used for estimation of clean signal wavelet coefficients under an additive noise model. The new approach is compared to several other techniques, including basic bandpass filtering as well as classical speech enhancement methods such as spectral subtraction, Wiener filtering, and EphraimâMalah filtering. Vocalizations recorded from several species are used for evaluation, including the ortolan bunting (Emberiza hortulana), rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta), and humpback whale (Megaptera novaeanglia), with both additive white Gaussian noise and environment recording noise added across a range of signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). Results, measured by both SNR and segmental SNR of the enhanced wave forms, indicate that the proposed method outperforms other approaches for a wide range of noise conditions
Empirical Modeling of Ducting Effects on a Mobile Microwave Link Over a Sea Surface
In this paper, signal enhancement due to the ducts over a sea surface is experimentally investigated and modeled. The investigation is carried out through the study of air-to-ground mobile microwave links over a tropical ocean with low airborne altitudes (0.37 - 1.83 km) at C band (5.7 GHz). The distance-dependence of the ducting induced enhancement (with reference to the free-space propagation) is linearly modeled, and the physical variations of the ducts are found to be Gaussian distributed. Empirical ducting coefficients and parameters for the Gaussian function are estimated and provided for the prediction of the distance-dependent signal enhancement due to the ducts in similar scenarios
Antiproton and Positron Signal Enhancement in Dark Matter Mini-Spikes Scenarios
The annihilation of dark matter (DM) in the Galaxy could produce specific
imprints on the spectra of antimatter species in Galactic cosmic rays, which
could be detected by upcoming experiments such as PAMELA and AMS02. Recent
studies show that the presence of substructures can enhance the annihilation
signal by a "boost factor" that not only depends on energy, but that is
intrinsically a statistical property of the distribution of DM substructures
inside the Milky Way. We investigate a scenario in which substructures consist
of "mini-spikes" around intermediate-mass black holes. Focusing on
primary positrons and antiprotons, we find large boost factors, up to a few
thousand, that exhibit a large variance at high energy in the case of positrons
and at low energy in the case of antiprotons. As a consequence, an estimate of
the DM particle mass based on the observed cut-off in the positron spectrum
could lead to a substantial underestimate of its actual value.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, minor changes, version accepted for publication
