Price vs Quantity in a Duopoly with Technological Spillovers: A Welfare Re-Appraisal

We analyse the problem of the choice of the market variable in a model where firms activate R&D investments for process innovation. We establish that (i) firms always choose the Cournot behaviour; and (ii) there exists a set of the relevant parameters where a benevolent social planner prefers quantity setting to price setting. This happens when the marginal cost of R&D activities is relatively low while technological externalities are relatively high. In this situation, the conflict between social and private preferences over the type of market behaviour disappears

First Best Bayesian Privatization Mechanisms

A planner is interested in designing an ex-post efficient, individually rational, Bayesian mechanism for allocating a single indivisible object to one of the agents who knows his own valuation and only the distribution of other agents' valuations of the object. In this paper, we show that it is impossible to design such a mechanism without any transfers among agents and the planner. However, we discover and describe an ex-post efficient, ex-post individually rational, Bayesian mechanism which balances transfers among agents without any payment to (or from) the planner. Our result that an ex-post efficient, ex-post individually rational, transfer balanced, Bayesian mechanism exists, is in stark contrast to two well-known impossibility results in the literature; the nonexistence of a Bayesian public good mechanism satisfying expost efficiency, individual rationality and budget balance (Laffont and Maskin (1979)) and the impossibility of an ex-post efficient, individually rational, Bayesian bilateral trading mechanism between a seller and a buyer without an outside subsidy (Myerson and Satterthwaite (1983))

The role of zinc (Zn2+), a modulator of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, in regulating long-term synaptic plasticity at hippocampal CA1 synapses is poorly understood. The effects of exogenous application of Zn2+ and of chelation of endogenous Zn2+ were examined on long-term potentiation (LTP) of stimulus-evoked synaptic transmission at Schaffer collateral (SCH) synapses in field CA1 of mouse hippocampal slices using whole-cell patch clamp and field recordings. Low micromolar concentrations of exogenous Zn2+ enhanced the induction of LTP, and this effect required activation of NMDA receptors containing NR2B subunits. Zn2+ elicited a selective increase in NMDA/NR2B fEPSPs, and removal of endogenous Zn2+ with high-affinity Zn2+ chelators robustly reduced the magnitude of stimulus-evoked LTP. Taken together, our data show that Zn2+ at physiological concentrations enhances activation of NMDA receptors containing NR2B subunits, and that this effect enhances the magnitude of LTP

Mix marketing produk yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan diversifikasi produk. Olahan ikan bandeng yang terkenal adalah di kabupaten Pati. UKM Primadona merupakan UKM yang bergerak pada olahan ikan bandeng dan merupakan salah satu UKM binaan dari Universitas Diponegoro dalam program pengabdian Ipteks bagi Produk Ekspor (IbPE) 2016-2018. Dalam binaan tersebut, yang menjadi salah satu program adalah diversifikasi produk UKM Diversifikasi produk yang dilakukan oleh UKM Primadona atas binaan tim pengabdi adalah keripik kulit dan abon duri ikan bandeng. Kulit ikan bandeng merupakan hasil filet dari daging ikan bandeng. Kulit ikan bandeng dicampur dengan tepung beras, tepung tapiokan dan rempah-rempah lainnya untuk diolah menjadi keripik kulit yang renyah. Tekstur keripik kulit ikan bandeng adalah renyah, mempunyai pola sisik ikan. Kandungan protein, vitamin dan mineral keripik kulit ikan bandeng juga cukup tinggi. Untuk abon duri ikan bandeng sangat berkhasiat karena kandungan kalsiumnya cukup tinggi

Upaya Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Masyarakat Melalui Pemanfaatan Lahan Tidur Di Kabupaten Jember [ Economic Empowerment Community Through Vacant in Land Usege in Jember Regency ]

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui luas lahan tidur yang tersebar di semua kecamatan di Kabupaten Jember; mengidentifikasi jenis komoditas pertanian yang pernah diusahakan pada lahan tidur dimaksud; dan mengetahui besarnya kontribusi pengelolaan lahan tidur terhadap total pendapatan rumah tangga petani. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan teknik survei dimana informasi data yang dikumpulkan meliputi data primer dan sekunder. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah penduduk yang memiliki atau mengelola lahan tidur yang mengetahui keberadaan lahan tersebut. Adapun teknik analisa data yang digunakan adalah analisa deskriptif yang hasilnya disajikan dalam bentuk tabel frekuensi, diinterpretasikan dan ditarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa luas lahan tidur di Kabupaten Jember pada tahun 2014 sebanyak 34.80 hektar yang tersebar di 12 wilayah kecamatan; komoditas pertanian yang pernah diusahakan pada lahan tidur tersebut meliputi komoditas padi, palawija, tembakau, kopi, tanaman buah dan sayur, tanaman tahunan seperti kayu sengon, dan jabon. Selain itu, lahan tersebut juga bekas bangunan Perumahan yang mangkrak, gudang, gedung kesenian, padang rumput dan pabrik pakan ternak; dan besarnya kontribusi lahan tidur pada saat dikelola untuk USAhatani dapat memberikan kontribusi rata-rata sebesar 27% bagi pendapatan rumah tangga petani di sekitar lahan tidur. Adapun rata-rata lahan tidur di Kabupaten Jember sudah berjalan selama 3.6 tahun dengan kisaran antara 1 – 9 tahun. Sementara itu, sebagian besar (54%) responden berharap agar lahan tidur segera dimanfaatkan kembali agar memberikan nilai tambah bagi masyarakat setempat
