A formal approach for correct-by-construction system substitution

The substitution of a system with another one may occur in several situations like system adaptation, system failure management, system resilience, system reconfiguration, etc. It consists in replacing a running system by another one when given conditions hold. This contribution summarizes our proposal to define a formal setting for proving the correctness of system substitution. It relies on refinement and on the Event-B method.Comment: EDCC-2014, Student-Forum, System Substitution, state rRecovery, correct-bycorrection, Event-B, refinemen

In the tertiary educational area, the web communication technologies have been used for a long time for communication among students and teachers. The discussion forum system is one important type of web communication tools. This thesis suggests an advanced category of web-based discussion forum system to enhance the ability of knowledge management in the tertiary educational area. In this project, a prototype web-based discussion forum system is developed that not only contains the benefits of the traditional web communication tools, but also overcomes various shortcomings of current discussion systems by using various technologies such as keyword search methodology, concept-based search methodology, interactive query expansion technology, and concept map methodology. This project provides a solution which students can effectively and efficiently capture, retrieve, and share useful knowledge and relevant information in a web-based discussion forum

Web applications by providing a rich user interface and better maintainability and becoming more and more popular. However, developed under the traditional model of web applications, there are many problems, such as slow response rate, expensive, poor user experience. A new model of development technique Ajax is becoming a hot spot in web applications. This dissertation will address a case study a...学位:工程硕士院系专业:软件学院_软件工程学号:X201323162

This work focuses on collaborative learning and how it canbe applied and supported in distance education. Previous workindi-cates that distance learners experience more loneliness, technical problems and lack of stimulation than face-to-facelearners do. Collaboration with peers may improve the feelingof connectedness and engagement. However, collaborativelearning is not the answer to all problems in distanceeducation--and it creates new problems. The present workexplores problems, opportunities and processes whencollaborative learning is introduced in distance education--andsuggests solutions. Related research on distance education andcomputer-supported collaborative learning is reviewed andrelated to own research. The different roles of information andcommunication technology in these areas are described. Six own research papers are reviewed and integrated. Threeof them explore university courses on computer use in society.Learners interacted mainly through a forum system, i.e. asystem for text-based, asynchronous electronic conferences anddiscussions. The special character offorum communication hadan impact on communication and collaboration processes. Onepaper summarizes these results and deduces a first list of tipsto teachers and systems designers, aiming to reduce problemsand take advantage of collabo-rative-learningopportunities. One paper, a report to the Swedish School Board, provides anoverview of research on distance education, withrecommendations for use in secondary schools. To get a broader picture of distance-education learners andtheir special situation and interests, a study was conducted inAustralia. Most of the learners were secondary-school students, living far away from towns. Communication was normallyrestricted to mail, radio and telephone. Opportunities forcollaboration between peers were rare, and correspondencetraditions and the lack of technological infrastructure weredelaying changes. However, a development towards morecollaborative learning had started. Empirical data were gathered ethnographically in naturalcourse settings. Results were analysed using 'activity theory'as a framework. The main contribution of this work is a description of howthree groups of learning processes develop and interact: (a) ofcontent, (b) of communication, and (c) of collaboration. Theyform the spiralling model of a"Triple Helix". Finally, detailed advice is given aschecklists to organisations, teachers, learners and systemdesigners. Learning Design and Service Oriented Architectures:a mutual dependency?

This paper looks at how the concept of reusability has gained currency in e-learning. Initial attention was focused on reuse of content, but recently attention has focused on reusable software tools and reusable activity structures. The former has led to the proposal of service-oriented architectures, and the latter has seen the development of the Learning Design specification. The authors suggest that there is a mutual dependency between the success of these two approaches, as complex Learning Designs require the ability to call on a range of tools, while remaining technology neutral. The paper describes a project at the UK Open University, SLeD, which sought to develop a Learning Design player that would utilise the service-oriented approach. This acted both as a means of exploring some of the issues implicit within both approaches and also provided a practical tool. The SLeD system was successfully implemented in a different university, Liverpool Hope, demonstrating some of the principles of re-use

InnoJam: A Web 2.0 discussion platform featuring a recommender system

In this Master Thesis we have designed, implemented and evaluated a Web 2.0 platform for massive online-discussion, inspired by Innovation Jams. Innovation Jams, the original initiative from IBM, has proven to be successful at bringing together vast amounts of people, capturing their untapped knowledge and, while the participants are discussing, gather useful insights for a companyʼs innovation strategy [Spangler et al. 2006, Bjelland and Chapman Wood 2008]. Our approach, based in an open-source forum system, features visualization techniques and a recommender system in order to provide the participants in the Jam with useful insights and interesting discussion recommendations for an improved participation. A theoretical introduction and a state-of-the-art survey in recommender systems has been gathered in order to frame and support the design of the hybrid recommender system [Burke 2002], composed by a content-based and a collaborative filtering recommenders, developed for InnoJam
