Temporal changes of an alfalfa succession and related soil physical properties on the Loess Plateau, China
Partial Wave Analysis of
BES data on are presented. The
contribution peaks strongly near threshold. It is fitted with a
broad resonance with mass MeV, width MeV. A broad resonance peaking at 2020 MeV is also required
with width MeV. There is further evidence for a component
peaking at 2.55 GeV. The non- contribution is close to phase

Prompt K_short production in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=0.9 TeV
The production of K_short mesons in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy
of 0.9 TeV is studied with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The
luminosity of the analysed sample is determined using a novel technique,
involving measurements of the beam currents, sizes and positions, and is found
to be 6.8 +/- 1.0 microbarn^-1. The differential prompt K_short production
cross-section is measured as a function of the K_short transverse momentum and
rapidity in the region 0 < pT < 1.6 GeV/c and 2.5 < y < 4.0. The data are found
to be in reasonable agreement with previous measurements and generator

Generation of high-energy-density ion bunches by ultraintense laser-cone-target interaction
A scheme in which carbon ion bunches are accelerated to a high energy and density by a laser pulse (similar to 10(21) W/cm(2)) irradiating cone targets is proposed and investigated using particle-in-cell simulations. The laser pulse is focused by the cone and drives forward an ultrathin foil located at the cone's tip. In the course of the work, best results were obtained employing target configurations combining a low-Z cone with a multispecies foil transversely shaped to match the laser intensity profile. Demodulation technique for plasmonic fiber grating sensors using orthogonally polarized light states
The generation of surface plasmon resonances (SPRs) in gold-coated weakly tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs) strongly depends on the state of polarization of the core guided-light. Recently, it was demonstrated that rotating the linear state of polarization of the guided light by 90° with respect to the grating planes allows to turn the SPR on and off. In this paper, we demonstrate that this strong polarization dependence can be advantageously used to demodulate the TFBG amplitude spectrum and retrieve the SPR shift induced by a change of the surrounding refractive index. The correlation between two amplitude spectra recorded with two particular orthogonally polarized light states yields a new refractive index measurement method accurate to ∼2 10-5

Generation of hemispherical fast electron waves in the presence of preplasma in ultraintense laser-matter interaction
AbstractHemispherical electron plasma waves generated from ultraintense laser interacting with a solid target having a subcritical preplasma is studied using particle-in-cell simulation. As the laser pulse propagates inside the preplasma, it becomes self-focused due to the response of the plasma electrons to the ponderomotive force. The electrons are mainly heated via betatron resonance absorption and their thermal energy can become higher than the ponderomotive energy. The hot electrons easily penetrate through the thin solid target and appear behind it as periodic hemispherical shell-like layers separated by the laser wavelength.</jats:p
