    Satu nano-pes argentum-kuprum (Ag-Cu) yang dirumuskan dengan mencampurkan nanopartikel Ag dan Cu dengan penambah organik (pelekat resin, terpineol dan ethylene glycol) telah dihasilkan bagi diaplikasikan sebagai bahan lampir-dai suhu tinggi. Pelbagai peratus berat nanopartikel Cu (20-80 wt%) telah ditambahkan ke dalam nano-pes Ag-Cu, diikuti oleh pensinteran di udara terbuka pada suhu 380°C selama 30 min tanpa bantuan tekanan luar, untuk mengkaji kesan terhadap sifat-sifat fizikal, elektrikal, terma dan mekanikal. A silver-copper (Ag-Cu) nanopaste formulated by mixing Ag and Cu nanoparticles with organic additives (i.e., resin binder, terpineol and ethylene glycol) which is meant for high-temperature die-attach applications has been developed. Various weight percent of Cu nanoparticles (20-80 wt%) has been loaded into the Ag-Cu nanopaste, followed by sintering in open air at temperature of 380°C for 30 min without the need of applied external pressure

    Germline breast cancer susceptibility genes, tumor characteristics, and survival.

    BACKGROUND: Mutations in certain genes are known to increase breast cancer risk. We study the relevance of rare protein-truncating variants (PTVs) that may result in loss-of-function in breast cancer susceptibility genes on tumor characteristics and survival in 8852 breast cancer patients of Asian descent. METHODS: Gene panel sequencing was performed for 34 known or suspected breast cancer predisposition genes, of which nine genes (ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, PALB2, BARD1, RAD51C, RAD51D, and TP53) were associated with breast cancer risk. Associations between PTV carriership in one or more genes and tumor characteristics were examined using multinomial logistic regression. Ten-year overall survival was estimated using Cox regression models in 6477 breast cancer patients after excluding older patients (≥75years) and stage 0 and IV disease. RESULTS: PTV9genes carriership (n = 690) was significantly associated (p < 0.001) with more aggressive tumor characteristics including high grade (poorly vs well-differentiated, odds ratio [95% confidence interval] 3.48 [2.35-5.17], moderately vs well-differentiated 2.33 [1.56-3.49]), as well as luminal B [HER-] and triple-negative subtypes (vs luminal A 2.15 [1.58-2.92] and 2.85 [2.17-3.73], respectively), adjusted for age at diagnosis, study, and ethnicity. Associations with grade and luminal B [HER2-] subtype remained significant after excluding BRCA1/2 carriers. PTV25genes carriership (n = 289, excluding carriers of the nine genes associated with breast cancer) was not associated with tumor characteristics. However, PTV25genes carriership, but not PTV9genes carriership, was suggested to be associated with worse 10-year overall survival (hazard ratio [CI] 1.63 [1.16-2.28]). CONCLUSIONS: PTV9genes carriership is associated with more aggressive tumors. Variants in other genes might be associated with the survival of breast cancer patients. The finding that PTV carriership is not just associated with higher breast cancer risk, but also more severe and fatal forms of the disease, suggests that genetic testing has the potential to provide additional health information and help healthy individuals make screening decisions

    European polygenic risk score for prediction of breast cancer shows similar performance in Asian women

    Abstract: Polygenic risk scores (PRS) have been shown to predict breast cancer risk in European women, but their utility in Asian women is unclear. Here we evaluate the best performing PRSs for European-ancestry women using data from 17,262 breast cancer cases and 17,695 controls of Asian ancestry from 13 case-control studies, and 10,255 Chinese women from a prospective cohort (413 incident breast cancers). Compared to women in the middle quintile of the risk distribution, women in the highest 1% of PRS distribution have a ~2.7-fold risk and women in the lowest 1% of PRS distribution has ~0.4-fold risk of developing breast cancer. There is no evidence of heterogeneity in PRS performance in Chinese, Malay and Indian women. A PRS developed for European-ancestry women is also predictive of breast cancer risk in Asian women and can help in developing risk-stratified screening programmes in Asia

    Atomic spectrometry update: Review of advances in the analysis of metals, chemicals and materials

    There has been a large increase in the number of papers published that are relevant to this review over this review period. The growth in popularity of LIBS is rapid, with applications being published for most sample types. This is undoubtedly because of its capability to analyse in situ on a production line (hence saving time and money) and its minimally destructive nature meaning that both forensic and cultural heritage samples may be analysed. It also has a standoff analysis capability meaning that hazardous materials, e.g. explosives or nuclear materials, may be analysed from a safe distance. The use of mathematical algorithms in conjunction with LIBS to enable improved accuracy has proved a popular area of research. This is especially true for ferrous and non-ferrous samples. Similarly, chemometric techniques have been used with LIBS to aid in the sorting of polymers and other materials. An increase in the number of papers in the subject area of alternative fuels was noted. This was at the expense of papers describing methods for the analysis of crude oils. For nanomaterials, previous years have seen a huge number of single particle and field flow fractionation characterisations. Although several such papers are still being published, the focus seems to be switching to applications of the nanoparticles and the mechanistic aspects of how they retain or bind with other analytes. This is the latest review covering the topic of advances in the analysis of metals, chemicals and materials. It follows on from last year's review1-6 and is part of the Atomic Spectrometry Updates series

    Family firms and investors' reaction to insider trades.

    The present research explores investor’s reaction to insider trades of family and non-family firms. More specifically, the study will investigate the reaction of investors toward insider trades of family and non-family firms, and whether the quality of corporate governance will influence investors’ reaction. The sample is made up of all insider trades in 2005 and 2006 of companies listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX). A regression analysis was conducted and the results show that investors will react less positively to insider buy trades by family members when compared with insider buy trades by non-family members. In addition, investors react more positively to insider buy trades by family members when a firm implements an independent board chair structure when compared with a firm that implements a non-independent board chair structure. Implications, limitations and avenues for future research are included in this research paper.BUSINES

    Abstract This paper reports the findings of a national survey on the use of dataloggers in secondary schools (Grades 7-10) and junior colleges (Grades 11-12). In particular, it explores the types of learning activities that teachers conduct using dataloggers, the support structures they deem necessary, and the difficulties they face. Out of the 593 respondents, 394 (67%) had used dataloggers in the last two years, mainly in demonstrations and set experiments. The three most important support structures included: supportive laboratory technicians, training on the use of dataloggers, and instructional material on how to use dataloggers within the curriculum. The difficulties which deterred the respondents from using dataloggers included the logistics and time taken to set up datalogging equipment and activities, insufficient numbers of computer workstations, and the mishandling of equipment by students leading to equipment malfunctions. To expand the use of dataloggers in school, the respondents suggest that dedicated laboratories be set up for datalogging activities, more curricular material to support datalogging be prepared, more familiarisation courses be run for teachers and laboratory technicians and, in particular, how dataloggers fit within an inquiry science learning approach
