Chiral Magnetic Effect in the Anisotropic Quark-Gluon Plasma

    Get PDF
An anisotropic thermal plasma phase of a strongly coupled gauge theory can be holographically modelled by an anisotropic AdS black hole. The temperature and anisotropy parameter of the AdS black hole background of interest [1] is specified by the location of the horizon and the value of the Dilaton field at the horizon. Interestingly, for the first time, we obtain two functions for the values of the horizon and Dilaton field in terms of the temperature and anisotropy parameter. Then by introducing a number of spinning probe D7-branes in the anisotropic background, we compute the value of the chiral magnetic effect (CME). We observe that in the isotropic and anisotropic plasma the value of the CME is equal for the massless quarks. However, at fixed temperature, raising the anisotropy in the system will increase the value of the CME for the massive quarks.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figure

Culture in the public domain and the challenge of multiculturalism : a critical examination of Taylor, Raz and Rorty

[From the Introduction:]Cultural diversity is an undeniable social reality in most societies all over the world. In western countries, this is evident in the population composition that reflects a cultural diversity resulting from forcible occupation of territories and the subordination or incorporation of native ethnic and linguistic communities, the arrival of immigrants, as well as the emergence of sub-cultures within the majority. Although such diversity has been a feature of almost all societies throughout history, it is more defiant today than before. Cultural difference has taken various forms, and has given rise to diverse problems in the public domain of life. Consequently, political philosophy as a conceptual as well as a normative study of politics faces a theoretical challenge. Western political thought and, in particular, liberalism have responded to the issue of cultural diversity in a variety of ways

Khavari Kashani, nicknamed Fakhr al-Waizin and the language of Islam, which is one of the titles bestowed on him by Muzaffar al-Din Shah, is one of the poets of the constitutional period whose research on his poems has not been observed. In addition to being a poet, he is a journalist and with his poetry and prose tools, he has patriotic and political poems that show the poet's social commitment. He criticizes the Shah, the courtiers, and the foreign colonizers (Russia and Britain) in a strange way, and his poems on the homeland are among the best poems of the constitutional era. The reflection of many political and social events of this period can be seen in Oriental poetry. Patriotism, xenophobia, critique of moral, cultural and social vices, and freedom-seeking are among the themes found in his poems, which we will address in this article. In most of these cases, he has presented his message and critique by using allegory

Introduction: The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of teaching to avoid cognitive errors through narrative therapy on depression and dysfunctional attitude in primary-school girls.  Methods: This experimental study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design and a one-month follow-up. The assessment tool consisted of the Depression Self-Rating Scale (DSRS), and DAS-C and clinical interviews were used to evaluate dysfunctional attitude among the students. The sample population consisted of 36 fourth- and fifth-grade, female, primary-school students with depression in Shiraz. The experimental group was exposed to narrative therapy, the placebo group to selective stories (without educational content on avoiding cognitive errors) and the control group received no treatment. The ANCOVA was used to analyze the data.  Results: The three groups were not different in terms of their depression score in the posttest (F=2.36, P=0.11), but the difference between them was significant in the follow-up stage (F=5.53, P=0.009). Significant differences were observed among the groups in terms of dysfunctional attitude and depression in the posttest (F=4.84, P=0.001) and the follow-up (P=0.0001, F=12.08).  Conclusion: Narrative therapy was found to be effective in reducing depression and dysfunctional attitude in the students.  Declaration of Interest: None.

In Islam, emphasis has been put on patience as a determining factor in preventing depression. The aim of this study was to predict depression based on patience and its components.Method: This study adopted a correlational method. The population included Shiraz University students, from whom 209 were selected through convenience sampling. Research instruments were Patience Scale and Beck Depression Π Inventory. In order to analyze the data, stepwise and enter regression were used. In this study, all the ethical issues were considered; besides, the authors declare no conflict of interest. Results: The results showed that persistence and contentment can predict depression both significantly and negatively. Moreover, the total score of patience could also predict depression significantly and negatively. Conclusion: Regarding the role of this religious variable in developing and prevention of depression, therapists and researchers should pay more attention to patience and its components. For downloading the full-text of this article please click here

For downloading the full-text of this article please click here. Background and Objective: Several empirical studies reported links between religion, spirituality, and post-traumatic growth. Post-traumatic growth has been reported after traumatic events such as medical conditions (such cancer or HIV). The purpose of the present study was to predict posttraumatic growth based on material attachment and its components in married patients with blood cancer. Methods: The statistical population included all the patients who referred to both inpatients and outpatients’ centers in Namazi hospital and Motahhari clinic in Shiraz, Iran, in 2018. 124 patients were selected from the sample population using convenient sampling method. The measures used included Posttraumatic Growth Inventory and Material Attachment Inventory. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used for analyzing the data. In this study, all the ethical considerations have been observed and no conflict of interest was reported by the authors. Results: The findings showed that material attachment could predict posttraumatic growth negatively (P<0.05). In addition, among the material attachment questionnaire components, "attachment to the present condition" could more strongly predict posttraumatic growth. Conclusion: It is concluded that the strategies that distance the patients with blood cancer from all material attachments and attachment to the present condition can facilitate posttraumatic growth. For downloading the full-text of this article please click here. Please cite this article as: Mousavi SZ, Goodarzi MA, Taghavi SMR.Prediction of Post Traumatic Growth based on Secular Attachment and its Components in Married Patients with Blood Cancer.
