    Legionella pneumonia after infliximab in a patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis

    AbstractThe antagonists of tumour necrosis factor (anti-TNF) have been successfully used in several chronic inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), but some studies have observed the development of infections by intracellular pathogens in patients using anti-TNF. We report a case of a female patient with previous diagnosis of RA for 16 years that used several disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) that resulted in treatment failure, and then was treated with infliximab. After fifteen days of the second dose, the patient developed ventilatory-dependent chest pain, dry cough and dyspnea. She was hospitalized, and the diagnosis of pneumonia by Legionella pneumophila was confirmed by the presence of Legionella antigen in an urine test. TNF is an inflammatory cytokine that also acts inhibiting the bacterial growth of intracellular pathogens, and its inhibition seems to increase susceptibility to these infections in some patients

    Knowledge of undergraduate students of the course in dentistry about the transmission of covid-19 in dental offices / Conhecimento dos estudantes de graduação do curso de odontologia sobre a transmissão da covid-19 em consultórios odontológicos

    The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of dental students about the transmission of coronavirus in dental offices, and the biosafety measures that must be adopted to prevent its dissemination. An online questionnaire with 18 questions was applied to  the students to collect the information. The sample was composed of 126 students of the dentistry course of public and private universities who had previous contact with clinical practice. The results revealed that 68.3% of the undergraduates were aware that dentists were among the health professionals who were at most risk for contamination, and 93.7% of them said that the procedures that generated aerosol in the dental office were those that led to the highest chances of transmission of  COVID-19. The responses also showed the awareness of students relative to the need to use all the items of personal protective equipment (PPE), in which 90% of the participants considered masks, caps, gloves, facial protectors, aprons, and protective goggles to be essential for preventing propagation of the virus. When asked about hand hygiene, 92.1% of the students considered soap and water the best option. Based on assessment of patients’ history (recent travels, chronic diseases and present health status), 87% reported that it was also important to obtain these items of  before attending a patient. It was concluded that the undergraduates had knowledge about the transmission and biosafety methods in the dental office, related to COVID-19, which would contribute to the safety of clinical attendance in the universities

    Autoavaliação x autonotação – aproximações e afastamentos na formação de professores autorregulados

    The development of teacher skills estimates actions which provides more responsibility and autonomy towards learning. One of these actions is to promote self-assessment activities, contributing to better awareness of one’s own learning and planning of interventions. This study focused on determining the potential for self-regulation of learning in self-assessment practices carried out in an undergraduate Pedagogy course. The research is qualitative, using the case study technique. Fifty-six students from the final year of the course at a public university in Paraná participated in the study. Information from questionnaires and interviews was submitted for content analysis, revealing that most participants were aware of the purposes of self-assessment, but they were found to be conducting self-grading activities, which consists on grading one’s own work in order to calculate a grade point average. Uma dessas ações é a promoção de atividades autoavaliativas, permitindo consciência da situação da aprendizagem e planejamento de intervenções. Este estudo concentrou-se em determinar o potencial autorregulatório, nas práticas autoavaliativas, realizadas em um curso de Pedagogia. A pesquisa, de abordagem qualitativa, na modalidade estudo de caso, contou com a participação de 56 discentes, do último ano do curso de uma universidade pública paranaense. As informações dos questionários e entrevistas foram submetidas à análise de conteúdo, permitindo constatar que a maioria dos participantes tem consciência das finalidades da autoavaliação, mas vivenciam a proposição de atividades autonotativas, ou seja, de atribuição de nota para compor média. As práticas realizadas não proporcionam o desenvolvimento de habilidades autorregulatórias.

    Doses de cinzas do bagaço da cana-de-açúcar afeta os atributos químicos do solo e o desempenho inicial de feijão guandu

    O Brasil destaca-se no cenário internacional como o maior produtor de cana-de-açúcar, onde são processados bilhões de toneladas. Assim, são gerados resíduos dessa atividade, podendo-se destacar as cinzas provenientes da queima do bagaço e palhadas oriundas da limpeza da cana e da produção de açúcar, álcool e energia térmica. Portanto, objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho inicial e teor de clorofila do feijão guandu e os atributos químicos do solo após a utilização de doses de cinzas. O estudo foi conduzido no ano de 2021, em casa de vegetação localizada no Sudoeste Goiano. O delineamento empregado foi em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, composto por cinco doses de cinzas: 10; 20; 30; 40 e 50 Mg ha-1 e um tratamento controle, com quatro repetições, totalizando 24 unidades experimentais. A utilização somente de cinzas como fonte de fertilizante aumenta linearmente o crescimento inicial do feijão guandu como também incrementos nos teores de clorofila total e clorofila B, atingindo os máximos incrementos com as doses estimadas de cinzas de 35.9 e 38.9 Mg ha-1. Aplicações de altas doses de cinzas promoveram melhorias na fertilidade do solo, com aumento de pH, P, K, saturação por bases e redução dos teores de alumínio e saturação por alumínio. Os teores de cálcio, magnésio atingiram os máximos incrementos com as doses estimadas respectivamente de 39.5 e 66.7 Mg ha-1 de cinzas.  Brazil stands out in the international scenario as the largest producer of sugarcane, processing billions of tons. Thus, this activity generates residues, such as ashes from bagasse burning and straw from sugarcane cleaning and from the production of sugar, alcohol and thermal energy. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the initial performance and chlorophyll content of pigeon pea and the chemical attributes of the soil after application of ash doses. The experiment was conducted in 2021, in a greenhouse located in southwestern Goiás, Brazil. The design used was completely randomized, composed of five ash doses: 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 Mg ha-1 and a control treatment, with four replicates, totaling 24 experimental units. The use of only ash as a fertilizer source causes linear increases in the initial growth of pigeon pea and in the contents of total chlorophyll and chlorophyll b, reaching the maximum increments with the estimated ash doses of 35.9 and 38.9 Mg ha-1. Applications of high ash doses promoted improvements in soil fertility, with increase in pH, P, K and base saturation as well as reduction in aluminum content and aluminum saturation. Calcium and magnesium contents reached the maximum increments with the estimated ash doses of 39.5 and 66.7 Mg ha-1, respectively

    PEDAGOGIA DA TRANSMISSÃO DO FUTEBOL DE MULHERES

    Starting from the Cultural Studies perspective and having as axes the analyzes of power and gender that exist in the context of Women's Soccer, this article aimed to analyze the curriculum operating in exhibitions of professional football games played by women. Exhibition soccer matches from the first phase of the Brazilian women's soccer championship A1 were observed, in a cut of the cultural artifact comprised by a YouTube channel, created in 2013, with soccer as the central subject of its content. Characterized as an exploratory field research with a qualitative approach, analyzes of the artifact's cut were carried out, in which three aspects of the curriculum present were more prominently observed: a parallel between women’s and men's soccer, the appreciation of women’s soccer and a discrediting of this practice and of the women present there. These aspects are part of the Pedagogy of Transmission of Women's Soccer, in the way it is presented in the teaching-learning context that composed the cut of the artifact in this study.Partiendo desde la perspectiva de los Estudios Culturales y teniendo como ejes los análisis de poder y género existentes en el contexto del Fútbol de Mujeres, este artículo tuvo como objetivo analizar los currículos activos en exhibiciones de partidos de fútbol profesional disputados por mujeres. Exhibiciones de juegos de la primera fase del Campeonato Brasileño Femenino A1 fueron observadas en un corte del artefacto cultural compuesto por un canal, en la plataforma YouTube, creado en 2013 y que tiene al fútbol como tema central de sus contenidos. Caracterizada como una investigación de campo exploratoria con enfoque cualitativo, se realizaron análisis del corte del artefacto, en los que se observaron de manera más destacada tres aspectos del currículo allí presente: una comparación entre lo fútbol de ellas y el fútbol de los hombres, la valorización del Fútbol de Mujeres y un desprestigio de esta práctica y de las mujeres allí presentes. Estos aspectos forman parte de la Pedagogía de la Transmisión del Fútbol de Mujeres, en la forma en que se presenta en el contexto de enseñanza-aprendizaje que compuso el corte del artefacto en este estúdio.Partindo-se da perspectiva dos Estudos Culturais e tendo como eixos as análises de poder e de gênero existentes no contexto do Futebol de Mulheres, o presente artigo teve por objetivo analisar os currículos atuantes em exibições de jogos do futebol profissional praticado por mulheres. Foram observadas exibições de jogos da primeira fase do Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino A1 em um recorte do artefato cultural compreendido por um canal, na plataforma YouTube, criado em 2013 e tendo por tema central de seu conteúdo o futebol. Caracterizada como uma pesquisa de campo exploratória de abordagem qualitativa, realizaram-se análises do recorte do artefato em que se observaram com maior destaque três aspectos do currículo ali presente: uma comparação entre o futebol delas com o dos homens, a valorização do Futebol de Mulheres e um desmerecimento dessa prática e das mulheres ali presentes. Esses aspectos integram a Pedagogia da Transmissão do Futebol de Mulheres, na maneira como ela se apresenta no contexto de ensino-aprendizagem que compôs o recorte do artefato nesse estudo

    Adapted version of the Pubertal Development Scale for use in Brazil

    OBJECTIVE: To determine whether scores in an adapted version of the self-assessment Pubertal Development Scale into Portuguese match those from the gold standard in pubertal development (Tanner scale). METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of 133 children and adolescents aged nine to 17 years (59 males; mean age of 13 years and six months, with standard deviation = 25 months). Youngsters completed the Pubertal Development Scale and were then examined by specialists in adolescent medicine. RESULTS: Exact absolute agreement of pubertal stages were modest, but significant associations between measures (correlation; intra-class correlation coefficients of consistency) showed that the Pubertal Development Scale adequately measures changes that map onto pubertal development determined by physical examination, on par with international publications. Furthermore, scores obtained from each Pubertal Development Scale question reflected adequate gonadal and adrenal events assessed by clinical ratings, mostly with medium/high effect sizes. Latent factors obtained from scores on all Pubertal Development Scale questions had excellent fit indices in Confirmatory Factor Analyses and correlated with Tanner staging. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that self-assessment of body changes by youngsters using the Portuguese version of the Pubertal Development Scale is useful when estimates of pubertal progression are sufficient, and exact agreement with clinical staging is not necessary. The Pubertal Development Scale is, therefore, a reliable instrument for use in large-scale studies in Brazil that aim at investigating adolescent health related to pubertal developmental.
