    Higgs Searches in ATLAS

This talk covers the results of a search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The datasets used correspond to integrated luminosities of approximately 4.8 fb-1 collected at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in 2011 and 5.8 fb-1 at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV in 2012. Individual searches in the channels H->ZZ(*)->4l, H->\gamma\gamma\ and H->WW(*)->e\nu\mu\nu\ in the 8 TeV data are combined with previously published results of searches for H->ZZ(*), WW(*), bb and \tau+\tau- in the 7 TeV data and results from improved analyses of the H->ZZ(*)->4l and H->\gamma\gamma\ channels in the 7 TeV data. Clear evidence for the production of a neutral boson with a measured mass of 126.0 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.4 (sys) GeV is presented. This observation, which has a significance of 5.9 standard deviations, corresponding to a background fluctuation probability of 1.7 x 10-9, is compatible with the production and decay of the Standard Model Higgs boson. First measurements of the couplings of this particle are presented and are compatible with a SM Higgs boson hypothesis.Comment: Physics in Collision, Slovakia, 201

Aucun signal n a été trouvé pour le boson de Higgs lourd et les limites sont données dans l espace des paramètres de 2HDM.Higgs boson which is responsible for the electroweak symmetry breaking and the origin of the particle mass is the core subject of particle physics today. I have worked on Higgs boson decaying into four leptons in the ATLAS experiment at LHC.In my thesis I have studied the background process to H->ZZ^*->4leptons signal. The signal of this channel is very clean because of the four leptons in the final state. Therefore, it is important to control the backgrounds to extract signal. I have worked to reduce one of the major background sources of Z+ee->4leptons process. At the end of my thesis, I discuss a model beyond the Standard Model: the two Higgs Doublets Model (2HDM). In this study I assume that the light Higgs is the new particle detected by the LHC with a mass of 125 GeV. No signal was found for the heavier Higgs and the limit is given in the parameter space of the 2HDM.PARIS11-SCD-Bib. électronique (914719901) / SudocSudocFranceF

Using Australia’s National Data Linkage Demonstration Project (NDLDP) to improve cardiac care: Towards a national, whole-of-population linked data resource for evidence-informed health policy

Introduction In Australia, the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments are each responsible for specific aspects of health care. Historically, cross-jurisdictional health data have not been linked routinely, resulting in significant blind spots in our understanding of the interplay between hospital and primary care, a major impediment to evidence-informed health policy. Objectives and Approach In December 2016, the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council approved the NDLDP, to establish the value of national linked data to inform health planning and policy. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) linked five years of hospital, emergency department, pharmaceutical dispensing, medical services claims and mortality data for Australia’s two most populous states (New South Wales and Victoria). The Victorian Agency for Health Innovation (VAHI) is leading the ‘Delivering better cardiac outcomes: Primary, specialist and hospital care’ project to demonstrate the value of the collection in identifying evidence-practice gaps and driving change in cardiac care. Results The NDLDP combined data for over 10 million individuals with over 7 billion records of health transactions, utilising a new strategy for confidentialising dates to protect patient privacy. The NDLDP is governed by a Steering Committee; the AIHW is the data custodian approving outputs from analyses within a secure host environment. VAHI established a Project Steering Committee to oversee roll-out, governance and capacity building of the approved cardiac project. The VAHI project was instigated by evidence that best-practice pharmacological treatments for cardiac care are underutilised in Australia, but with no quantification of the population-level extent of this gap. The project quantified significant variations and underuse of post-discharge pharmacological care for patients admitted to hospital with key cardiac conditions, including atrial fibrillation and acute myocardial infarction. Conclusion/Implications This collaboration between government, clinical networks and academic researchers demonstrated this novel data linkage can enable evaluation of patient care pathways across both hospital and community-based services. These linked data resources provide essential information to investigate variation in care in Australia and improve care integration in cardiac care and beyond

Loss of SNORA73 reprograms cellular metabolism and protects against steatohepatitis

Lipid induced stress contributes to metabolic diseases. Here the authors identify small nucleolar RNA 73 (SNORA73) in a screen for genes that protect against lipotoxicity and show that deficiency of SNORA73 reprograms oxidative metabolism and protects against steatohepatitis in mice

Written information about individual medicines for consumers.

Medicines are the most common intervention in most health services. As with all treatments, those taking medicines need sufficient information: to enable them to take and use the medicines effectively, to understand the potential harms and benefits, and to allow them to make an informed decision about taking them. Written medicines information, such as a leaflet or provided via the Internet, is an intervention that may meet these purposes
