Five-Zero Texture non-Fritzsch like Quark Mass Matrices in the Standard Model

    Get PDF
We will consider a five-zero texture non-Fritzsch like quark mass matrices that is completely valid and generates all the physical quantities involved, including the quark masses, the Jarlskog invariant quantity and the inner angles of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle, and explaining the charge parity violation phenomenon at 1σ\sigma confidence level. To achieve this, non-physical phases must be included in the unitary matrices used to diagonalize the quark mass matrices, in order to put the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix in standard form. Besides, these phases can be rotated away so they do not have any physical meaning. Thus, the model has a total of nine parameters to reproduce ten physical quantities, which implies physical relationships between the quark masses and/or mixings.Comment: 9 page

    Alternative ZZ' Bosons in E6E_6

    Get PDF
We classify the quantum numbers of the extra U(1)U(1)' symmetries contained in E6E_6. In particular, we categorize the cases with rational charges and present the full list of models which arise from the chains of the maximal subgroups of E6E_6. As an application, the classification allows us to determine all embeddings of the Standard Model fermions in all possible decompositions of the fundamental representation of E6E_6 under its maximal subgroups. From this we find alternative chains of subgroups for Grand Unified Theories. We show how many of the known models including some new ones appear in alternative breaking patterns. We also use low energy constraints coming from parity-violating asymmetry measurements and atomic parity non-conservation to set limits on the E6E_6 motivated parameter space for a ZZ' boson mass of~1.2~TeV. We include projected limits for the present and upcoming QWEAK, MOLLER and SOLID experiments

Contemporary continuum QCD approaches to excited hadrons

Amongst the bound states produced by the strong interaction, radially excited meson and nucleon states offer an important phenomenological window into the long-range behavior of the coupling constant in Quantum Chromodynamics. We here report on some technical details related to the computation of the bound state's eigenvalue spectrum in the framework of Bethe-Salpeter and Faddeev equations.Comment: Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Few-body Problems in Physics to be published in EPJ Web of Conference

Analysis and implications of the exchange sterilization policy in Mexico

Achievement evaluation of Colombia's Escuela Nueva : is multigrade the answer?

    Get PDF
In the mid 1980s, half of Colombia's rural schools did not offer complete primary education and more than half of rural children between the ages of 7 and 9 had never attended school. Unitary schools - multigrade classrooms taught by one teacher - were established in the early 1960s in isolated rural areas with few students. However, when efforts were made to expand the program nationally several problems became apparent - with teacher training, with the automatic promotion system, and with the relevance of course content to rural life. Escuela Nueva was created in 1976 as an official improvement on the unitary school. By 1989 enrollment increased to 17,948 schools, serving 800,000 students. Escuela Nueva is a rural school in which one or two teachers offer all five years of primary education in or two multigrade classrooms. Promotion is flexible, but not automatic. Special instruction materials are used which encourage the practical application of what is learned to life in a rural community. The system supports peer instruction, with older students coaching younger ones. The schools have study corners focused on different subject areas and a small library that also functions as a community information center. Many activities are designed to involve parents in support of their child's learning. The authors found that Escuela Nueva had significantly improved student outcomes, community participation as well as reducing dropout rates.Primary Education,Gender and Education,Educational Sciences,Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Teaching and Learning

Improved Constraints on Z' Bosons from Electroweak Precision Data

    Get PDF
We analyze various models with an extra U(1) gauge symmetry in addition to the Standard Model (SM) gauge group at low energies, and impose limits on the mass of the neutral Z' boson, M_Z', predicted in all such models, and on the Z-Z' mixing angle, theta_ZZ'. The precision electroweak data strongly constrain theta_ZZ' to very small values and for most models we find lower limits on M_Z' of order 1 TeV. In one case we obtain a somewhat better fit than in the SM (although this is only marginally statistically significant) and here we find a weak upper limit at the 90% C.L.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures, final version as it will appear in Journal (JHEP

Radiative and non-perturbative corrections to the electron mass and the anomalous magnetic moment in the presence of an external magnetic field of arbitrary strength

    Get PDF
Using the Ritus eingenfunction method we compute corrections to the electron mass m_{0} in the presence of a moderate magnetic field eB ~ m_0^2. From this we obtain an expression for the anomalous magnetic moment near the critic field. For this we solved numerically the Schwinger-Dyson equations in the rainbow approximation including all Landau levels without make any assumption respect to the field strength.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Mejorando los sistemas rurales de alertas tempranas a través de la integración de OpenBTS y JAIN SLEE

    Get PDF
Nowadays exists a trend that combines the features of Web 2.0 services and telecommunications services known as Telco 2.0. These converged services have been successfully implemented in early warning systems providing improved agility and flexibility in service delivery. However the deployment of converged services in rural zones of developing countries presents several constraints which do not allow to provide this kind of services, as the unavailability of a Next Generation Network (ngn), absence of advanced technology and lack of investment resources. This paper proposes a jain slee and OpenBTS integration architecture for early warning systems in rural zones. The implemented prototype is evaluated with a specific case study involving the deployment of Telco 2.0 warnings in Colombian coffee plantations which may be affected by coffee rust, one of the most threatening diseases in coffee production

Collisional parton energy loss in a finite size QCD medium revisited: Off mass-shell effects

    Get PDF
We study the collisional energy loss mechanism for particles produced off mass-shell in a finite size QCD medium. The off mass-shell effects introduced are to consider particles produced in wave packets instead of plane waves and the length scale associated to an in-medium particles' life-time. We show that these effects reduce the energy loss as compared to the case when the particles are described as freely propagating from the source. The reduction of the energy loss is stronger as this scale becomes of the order or smaller than the medium size. We discuss possible consequences of the result on the description of the energy loss process in the parton recombination scenario.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures. Enlarged discussion. References added.
