Diagnóstico del sistema de compensación en una empresa del sector manufacturero en Colombia
Por medio del diagnóstico del sistema actual de compensación de la empresa objeto de estudio, en adelante la empresa X, se buscó determinar si este se ajustaba a las necesidades de la empresa, tanto en cuanto a bienestar de sus empleados como de estrategia organizacional -- Se evidenció que existe la necesidad de ajustarlo a las nuevas tendencias mundiales existentes, mediante la evaluación acerca de cuáles temas se deben mantener y cuáles nuevas prácticas se pueden adaptar -- Para realizar dicho diagnóstico se desarrolló una serie de análisis, de conformidad con el enfoque metodológico del profesor Purushotham (2009), que se emplea como respaldo conceptual de la totalidad del presente documento y que explica los factores que influyen en el diseño y la aplicación de los sistemas de compensación y beneficios -- Según dicho enfoque, un sistema de compensación y beneficios no está diseñado en el vacío y se debe ubicar en el entorno en el que se desarrolla; por tal razón a través de una serie de análisis estadísticos internos, como encuesta socioeconómica, penetración de beneficios y compensaciones variables existentes, y los resultados de un estudio salarial efectuado por un ente externo a la empresa, se buscó inicialmente definir los factores internos y externos en los que está fundamentado el sistema de compensación de la empresa X y se revisó la tendencia hacia beneficios flexibles y emocionales -- Por último, a la luz de los resultados arrojados por el análisis de la información estadística así como de las tendencias existentes, se brindan unas recomendaciones basadas en un análisis DOFA -- Dado que la empresa en su estrategia tiene un énfasis en control de los recursos, se analizará la posibilidad de utilizar metodologías que permitan flexibilizar y variabilizar la compensación, de forma que las metas y objetivos planteados sean consistentes con los resultados del negoci
Formaldehyde total column densities over Mexico City: comparison between multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy and solar-absorption Fourier transform infrared measurements
Formaldehyde (HCHO) total column densities over the Mexico City metropolitan area (MCMA) were retrieved using two independent measurement techniques: multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. For the MAX-DOAS measurements, the software QDOAS was used to calculate differential slant column densities (dSCDs) from the measured spectra and subsequently the Mexican MAX-DOAS fit (MMF) retrieval code to convert from dSCDs to vertical column densities (VCDs). The direct solar-absorption spectra measured with FTIR were analyzed using the PROFFIT (PROFile FIT) retrieval code. Typically the MAX-DOAS instrument reports higher VCDs than those measured with FTIR, in part due to differences found in the ground-level sensitivities as revealed from the retrieval diagnostics from both instruments, as the FTIR and the MAX-DOAS information do not refer exactly to the same altitudes of the atmosphere. Three MAX-DOAS datasets using measurements conducted towards the east, west or both sides of the measurement plane were evaluated with respect to the FTIR results. The retrieved MAX-DOAS HCHO VCDs where 6 %, 8 % and 28 % larger than the FTIR measurements which, supported with satellite data, indicates a large horizontal inhomogeneity in the HCHO abundances. The temporal change in the vertical distribution of this pollutant, guided by the evolution of the mixing-layer height, affects the comparison of the two retrievals with different sensitivities (total column averaging kernels). In addition to the reported seasonal and diurnal variability of HCHO columns within the urban site, background data from measurements at a high-altitude station, located only 60 km away, are presented
Relevance of the Glutathione System in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: Evidence in Human and Experimental Models
Oxidative stress, which is a state of imbalance in the production of reactive oxygen species and nitrogen, is induced by a wide variety of factors. This biochemical state is associated with diseases that are systemic as well as diseases that affect the central nervous system. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder, and temporal lobe epilepsy represents an estimated 40% of all epilepsy cases. Currently, evidence from human and experimental models supports the involvement of oxidative stress during seizures and in the epileptogenesis process. Hence, the aim of this review was to provide information that facilitates the processing of this evidence and investigate the therapeutic impact of the biochemical status for this specific pathology
A Case Report of Acute Severe Myelitis and Meningitis Secondary to Varicella Zoster Virus Reactivation in a Patient with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome
Background: Myelitis post Herpes-Zoster is a rare condition that is typically associated with immunocompromised states. It usually starts as an acute loss of sensory and motor functions below the affected spinal cord level. The condition can range in severity from a mild to a fatal presentation. Other neurological complications include meningitis, atypical presentations should encourage the search for undiagnosed immunosuppression states.
The Case: We describe the case of a 42-year-old man, with previously undiagnosed HIV, who developed acute myelitis and meningitis after the appearance of the classic zoster lesions. On lumbar puncture and subsequent CSF analysis, the patient was found to have Froin's Syndrome. The patient was initiated with ceftriaxone, vancomycin, and acyclovir regimen and prophylactic antiphymic treatment was also added. After 14 days in the hospital, the fever, headache, and neck stiffness subsided while the sphincter function and lower limb paraplegia did not improve.
Conclusion: Varicella zoster virus reactivation suggests underlying immunosuppression. This case demonstrates the importance of being cognizant to the wide range of clinical manifestations that may suggest spinal cord involvement after clinical reactivation. Furthermore, physicians also need to be mindful that Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and other immunodeficiency states could present with atypical clinical manifestations
Combined direct-sun ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopies at Popocatépetl volcano (Mexico)
Volcanic plume composition is strongly influenced by both changes in magmatic systems and plume-atmosphere interactions. Understanding the degassing mechanisms controlling the type of volcanic activity implies deciphering the contributions of magmatic gases reaching the surface and their posterior chemical transformations in contact with the atmosphere. Remote sensing techniques based on direct solar absorption spectroscopy provide valuable information about most of the emitted magmatic gases but also on gas species formed and converted within the plumes. In this study, we explore the procedures, performances and benefits of combining two direct solar absorption techniques, high resolution Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Ultraviolet Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (UV-DOAS), to observe the composition changes in the Popocatépetl’s plume with high temporal resolution. The SO2 vertical columns obtained from three instruments (DOAS, high resolution FTIR and Pandora) were found similar (median difference <12%) after their intercalibration. We combined them to determine with high temporal resolution the different hydrogen halide and halogen species to sulfur ratios (HF/SO2, BrO/SO2, HCl/SO2, SiF4/SO2, detection limit of HBr/SO2) and HCl/BrO in the Popocatépetl’s plume over a 2.5-years period (2017 to mid-2019). BrO/SO2, BrO/HCl, and HCl/SO2 ratios were found in the range of (0.63 ± 0.06 to 1.14 ± 0.20) × 10−4, (2.6 ± 0.5 to 6.9 ± 2.6) × 10−4, and 0.08 ± 0.01 to 0.21 ± 0.01 respectively, while the SiF4/SO2 and HF/SO2 ratios were found fairly constant at (1.56 ± 0.25) × 10−3 and 0.049 ± 0.001. We especially focused on the full growth/destruction cycle of the most voluminous lava dome of the period that took place between February and April 2019. A decrease of the HCl/SO2 ratio was observed with the decrease of the extrusive activity. Furthermore, the short-term variability of BrO/SO2 is measured for the first time at Popocatépetl volcano together with HCl/SO2, revealing different behaviors with respect to the volcanic activity. More generally, providing such temporally resolved and near-real-time time series of both primary and secondary volcanic gaseous species is critical for the management of volcanic emergencies, as well as for the understanding of the volcanic degassing processes and their impact on the atmospheric chemistry.We acknowledge financial support from grants UNAM-PAPIIT IA101620 and IN111521. Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) Daily and Monthly Level 3 Products of Atmospheric Trace Gas Columns
We introduce the new GOME-2 daily and monthly level 3 product of total column ozone (O3), total and tropospheric column nitrogen dioxide (NO2), total column water vapour, total column bromine oxide (BrO), total column formaldehyde (HCHO) and total column sulphur dioxide (SO2). The GOME-2 level 3 products are aimed to provide easily translatable and user-friendly data sets to the scientific community for scientific progress as well as satisfying public interest. The purpose of this paper is to present the theoretical basis as well as the verification and validation of the GOME-2 daily and monthly level 3 products. The GOME-2 level 3 products are produced using the overlapping area weighting method. Details of the gridding algorithm are presented. The spatial resolution of the GOME-2 level 3 products is selected based on sensitivity study. The consistency of the resulting level 3 products among three GOME-2 sensors is investigated through time series of global averages, zonal averages, and bias. The accuracy of the products is validated by comparing to ground-based observations. The verification and validation results show that the GOME-2 level 3 products are consistent with the level 2 data. Small discrepancies are found among three GOME-2 sensors, which are mainly caused by the differences in instrument characteristic and level 2 processor. The comparison of GOME-2 level 3 products to ground-based observations in general shows very good agreement, indicating the products are consistent and fulfil the requirements to serve the scientific community and general public.</p

Recommendations for treatment with recombinant human growth hormone in pediatric patients in Colombia
En Colombia, actualmente no existen parámetros claros para el diagnóstico de pacientes con talla baja, ni sobre el tratamiento de esta población con hormona de crecimiento recombinante humana (somatropina), lo cual se ve favorecido por la diversidad de programas de formación de profesionales en endocrinología pediátrica. En respuesta a esta problemática se realizó el primer acuerdo colombiano de expertos en talla baja liderado por la Asociación Colegio Colombiana de Endocrinología Pediátrica (ACCEP); este trabajo contó con la participación y el aval de expertos clínicos de importantes instituciones de salud públicas y privadas del país, además de expertos metodológicos del instituto Keralty, quienes garantizaron la estandarización del uso de la somatropina. Después de realizar una minuciosa revisión de la literatura, se propone la unificación de definiciones, un algoritmo diagnóstico, los parámetros de referencia de las pruebas bioquímicas y dinámicas, una descripción de las consideraciones de uso de la somatropina para el tratamiento de las patologías con aprobación por la entidad regulatoria de medicamentos y alimentos en Colombia y, por último, un formato de consentimiento informado y de ficha técnica del medicamento.In Colombia there are no guidelines for diagnosis and management of patients with short stature and for the use of recombinanthuman growth hormone, mainly caused by the diversity of training centers in pediatric endocrinology.
