The time and motion studies are an important tool, with this the companies can expect to make projections of both, human and monetary resources, to allow others to set and implement dynamic and consistent methodologies to process studied. They have to take into account an important factor, variability, and sometimes depending on the activities they want to standardize the methods and time study can become a double-edged sword, standards should respond to variability processes, otherwise, the results of the projections would not be the most successful and could be working under ambiguous parameters aimed at targets that very likely will not be met. So they should pay attention to every detail, every word or movement about the official system problems, the tools they use, everything is important and relevant to adjust and adapt the methodology to the process, in a more explicit study methods and time to design the mold in which they have to adjust the process and the “accurate” time. It is clear that companies standardize their processes are characterized because they are organized, methodical and with a substantial degree of control, which make them safe and reliable, so it is necessary to give the importance that it deserves, the responsibility of deliver a good product should not be taken as a risk due to inefficient and uncontrolled processes, they cannot contemplate risking customer confidence, which is a key factor when you lose it is very difficult to recover. For all this is true to say that the standardization process should become a required for companies and their staff have a guided culture and methodologies under the parameters that they set, so traceability can be done in time generating deviations avoiding rework and delays

Label-Free Detection of Post-translational Modifications with a Nanopore

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) of proteins play key roles in cellular processes. Hence, PTM identification is crucial for elucidating the mechanism of complex cellular processes and disease. Here we present a method for PTM detection at the single-molecule level using FraC biological nanopores. We focus on two major PTMs, phosphorylation and glycosylation, that mutually compete for protein modification sites, an important regulatory process that has been implicated in the pathogenic pathways of many diseases. We show that phosphorylated and glycosylated peptides can be clearly differentiated from nonmodified peptides by differences in the relative current blockade and dwell time in nanopore translocations. Furthermore, we show that these PTM modifications can be mutually differentiated, demonstrating the identification of phosphorylation and glycosylation in a label-free manner. The results represent an important step for the single-molecule, label-free identification of proteoforms, which have tremendous potential for disease diagnosis and cell biology

Domestic hot water consumption prediction models suited for dwellings in central-southern parts of Chile

    Get PDF
Domestic hot water (DHW) consumption in dwellings can play a key role in the development of policies that are focused on energy poverty, and in improving energy efficiency, among other aspects. There is an important variability observed with DHW among different countries due to technical, sociological, climatic, and economic factors. Most studies that deal with DHW predictions are based on stochastic models, and only a few apply time series or statistical methods. In the case of Chile, the country is undergoing a policy development process, and there is little information about DHW consumption. As a result, it is fundamental to have DHW consumption prediction models that are focused on dwelling. For this reason, the study analysed the possibility of using time series models to make future estimations about monthly domestic hot water (DHW) consumption. To this end, consumption data obtained from 98 apartments between 2015 and 2021 were used, and 3 approaches were applied namely, exponential smoothing, basic structural model (BSM), and state-space model (SSM). The results showed that exponential smoothing and state-space methods allowed to obtain satisfactory results with regard to percentage error and confidence levels. Therefore, these models could be used to make future estimations of domestic hot water (DHW) consumption

Do we need complex and multidimensional indicators to assess energy poverty? The case of the Chilean indicator

    Get PDF
Energy poverty is a multidimensional and complex phenomenon, and several indicators have been developed to evaluate and quantify it. However, often greater complexity does not mean greater precision. In the case of Chile, the Energy Poverty Network established the Three-dimensional and Territorial Indicator of Energy Poverty (EPTTI in Spanish) to assess the energy poverty situation of Chilean families. The EPTTI is based on a multidimensional approach with 10 indicators. Although, their evaluation involves resources that may hinder a practical application. This study analyzed the consistency between the individual responses of an indicator and the adapted EPTTI evaluation, using a database of 641 families. The results show that the excessive energy expenditure and the type and energy source of heating systems indicators are the variables with the greatest influence on energy poverty assessments. These results served to both propose simplified approaches for energy poverty assessment with the indicator, and establish policies of action that regional governments should address to reduce the situation of energy povertyNational Agency for Research and Development (ANID, in Spanish)Confort ambiental y pobreza energ´etica (+CO-PE)” of the University of the Bío-Bío, the Thematic Network 722RT0135 “Red Iberoamericana de Pobreza Energ´etica y Bienestar Ambiental” (RIPEBA)Thematic Networks of the CYTED Program for 2021Universidad de Granada / CBU

We demonstrate that catalytic micromotors can be trapped in microfluidic chips containing chevron and heart-shaped structures. Despite the challenge presented by the reduced size of the traps, microfluidic chips with different trapping geometries can be fabricated via replica moulding. We prove that these microfluidic chips can capture micromotors without the need for any external mechanism to control their motion. The research leading to these results has received funding from S.S. and L.S. thank DFG (grant SA 2525/1-1) for financial support.European Community's Seventh Framework ProgramEuropean Commissio
