    Gamma Splines and Wavelets

    Get PDF
In this work we introduce a new family of splines termed as gamma splines for continuous signal approximation and multiresolution analysis. The gamma splines are born by -times convolution of the exponential by itself. We study the properties of the discrete gamma splines in signal interpolation and approximation. We prove that the gamma splines obey the two-scale equation based on the polyphase decomposition. to introduce the shift invariant gamma spline wavelet transform for tree structured subscale analysis of asymmetric signal waveforms and for systems with asymmetric impulse response. Especially we consider the applications in biomedical signal analysis (EEG, ECG, and EMG). Finally, we discuss the suitability of the gamma spline signal processing in embedded VLSI environment

CRM system implementation and firm performance : the role of consultant facilitation and user involvement

    Get PDF
Purpose The current research aims to answer the following question: To what extent and under what conditions does hiring consultants to implement a customer relationship management (CRM) system produce performance gains for companies? To answer this question, this research delves into the critical interdependent roles of CRM consultant resources (CR) and user involvement (UI) in overcoming CRM’s technological and organizational implementation challenges. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative field study methodology was used to empirically test the research hypotheses. Cross-sectional data (N = 126) were collected from large client companies using CRM technology. Partial least squares-structural equation modeling was used to estimate the significance levels of the structural model. Findings The findings indicate that the extent to which CRM consultants improve CRM system quality (SQ) and, ultimately, firm performance, largely depends on UI, which acts as the key facilitating mechanism to cope with application complexity (APP) and requirements uncertainty (REQ). Originality/value This research probes into the largely unexplored interactions between CRM CR, UI, APP and REQ. Using these parameters, this model successfully predicts CRM SQ and firm performance.© Samppa Suoniemi, Alex Zablah, Harri Terho, Rami Olkkonen, Detmar Straub and Hannu Makkonen. Electromechanical film sensor device for dynamic force recordings from canine limbs

    Get PDF
An equipment based on the electromechanical film (EMF) sensors was designed for the measurementof forces acting upon canine limbs. EMF forms an elastic electret, which generates on its surface an electric charge proportional to the the force applied on it. The EMF sensors were calibrated using a conventional material testing device with cyclic loads. The beagles were trained on a treadmill working at horizontal position or with either 15° uphill or downhill inclination. The treadmill belt speed varied from 2.5 km/h to 7.5 km/h. The force under the canine paws varied depending on the inclination of the treadmill. When the dogs ran uphill, weight-bearing on hind1imbs increased 11% but the weight-bearing 0n forelimbs did not change. Downhill running increased weight-bearing on forelimbs by 8% and decreased weight-bcaring of the hindlimbs by 5%. Immobilization of the right hind] imb increased weightbearing on both forelimbs by 7-25% and on the left hindlimb by 56%. One month after a 30° valgus osteotomy operation at the right tibia, the dynamic force recorded From the operated hindlimb was 69% of the control value. Three months after osteotomy, the weight-bearing of the operated limb approachednormal situation. Our results suggest that the EMF sensor is a reliable method for the measurement of dynamic forces acting on the weight-bearing limbs of the dogs

The purpose of this thesis was to develop and pilot a home delivery concept for groceries for a home care provider Company X, located in Lahti, in association with K-supermarket Orimattila and Ainon Siivouspalvelu Ky. The theoretical part deals with productizing and the concepts behind a grocery delivery service, such as networking, delivery planning, supply chain process and customer registry. The theoretical background supports the empirical part of the thesis. Qualitative research methods were used for this thesis, including theme interviews, observation and personal experiences. The data for the thesis was collected by interviewing the people involved in the grocery delivery service pilot and by observations of the author. The empirical part of the study examined the processes and development of the grocery delivery service, such as product ordering, grocery picking and delivery. The profitability of the operations was evaluated together with the other partners involved and development ideas were introduced for improving the concept of grocery delivery service. However, the service did not turn out to be a profitable business opportunity and its development would have required a notably bigger budget. This led to a mutual decision to end the grocery delivery service early in 201
