    Get PDF

    Get PDF
The researchers present a simple experimental activity to measure the sound intensity level using an Android-based smartphone to prove the inverse square law and analyze the dependence of the sound intensity to the sound source frequency. The type of this study was quantitative research by conducting level of intensity experiment using a pair of smartphones with one smartphone functioning as the sound source using a tone generator free application (app) and the other smartphone functioning as the detector installed with Physics Toolbox sound meter application to measure the arriving sound intensity level. The smartphone functioning as the sound source was placed at a certain place labeled as the origin point (0.0), while the other smartphone as the detector was placed at various distances on the x-axis. In this study, the frequencies of the tone generator used were 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz. Then, the sound intensity level versus distance was analyzed to determine the compatibility between the experimental results using a smartphone and the prevailing theory, namely the inverse square model. The sound intensity level detected by the smartphone from 2,000 Hz resulted in the graph with smaller slope after passing 0.3 meters. The results follow the theorem of which the sound intensity level at the detector depends on the distance between the source and the detector based on the inverse square law. When the frequency of a source was changed (500 Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000), the sound intensity also changed. Higher frequency leads to a larger sound intensity. The experiment can thus be used to assist  high school students and physics undergraduates in understanding the inverse square law of sound or to study environmental noise with a simple and low-cost experiment

The purpose of this study is to investigate instagram use among English pre-service teachers (EPST) to support their language learning in a particular course. This study sought to explore the following research questions: (1) How do EPST explore instagram to accomplish Online Task-Based Language Learning (OTBLL)? (2) What contents are created and shared by EPST to accomplish OTBLL? To collect the data, this study applied observation and content analysis. In addition several tasks were designed to be accomplished by EPST. The findings shows that EPST were able to integrate both the ability to use instagram and the ability to integrate it for OTBLL. The contents that EPST created and shared met the requirement of OTBLL. The contents included several types: creating video to explain topic assigned, writing phonetic transcription, and other tasks. The results of this study are expected to contribute in improving EPST language skills and their ability to explore social media use for language learning. Being able to seize social media to support language learning is a necessary skill to be nurtured for future language teacher in the 21st century

This study sought to explore students’ experience in using Instagram to participate in mobile collaborative language learning (MCLL). The contents they produced and shared, as well as their interaction and collaboration, were analyzed. The participants of this study were 110 students in an English education department, in three different classes, who all had taken a translation coursetheir third semester. Online tasks were assigned to students and they were required to produce, share, interact and collaborate to accomplish tasks. This study applied a qualitative method with case study research design using observation, focus group discussion and content analysis. Data were analyzed through stages namely categorization, reduction and interpretation. Results showed that the students were able to participate in MCLL using Instagram. They produced and shared contents that met the requirement of MCLL. The contents included English sentences for structural collaboration in terms of subject-verb agreement and English sentences for word meaning collaborations. They interacted with their peers by writing feedback and comments on the uploaded content. They collaborated with their peers by providing multiple interactions to accomplish tasks in MCLL like writing structural analysis, word meaning, paraphrasing sentences, and sentence translation.</span

This study originated from the lack of utilization of learning media during the learning process. Teaching methods used by teachers are less varied so that learners are only trained in cognitive abilities only while for high-level thinking skills such as critical thinking ability is still low. One alternative that can be done to improve the skills of critical thinking is to utilize the Software Tracker media. This study aims to determine the improvement of critical thinking skills of learners through the use of Software Tracker media on the material impulse and momentum. The research method used is Pre-Experiment with design One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample of this research using Purposive Sampling technique. The research instrument used in this research is the critical thinking skills of the students of impulse material and momentum to measure the critical thinking ability of learners. The data analysis technique uses normality test, and t test to normalized n-gain value from pretest and posttest value of learners using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that the critical thinking skills of learners increased after utilizing the Software Tracker media during learning. The result of this research is proved from the significant value of ttable test of 1.691 while t count is 24.53 which means H0 is rejected and Ha accepted. The results of this study indicate that the use of Software Tracker media on the material impulse and momentum have a positive impact on improving the critical thinking skills of learners

Media made from low-cost and simple materials is one solution to overcome the limitations of physics laboratory facilities. This paper aims to describe the use of low-cost and simple media from a teacher's perspective as a learning planner. The results showed that in the utilization of media made from low-cost and simple materials, information literacy skills, the involvement of other experts such as universities as a teacher partner, good English skills, and involvement of learners were all required. Selection of low-cost media is based on consideration of time, cost, availability of tools and materials and conformity with teaching materials. The impact on learning shows an increase in cognitive learning outcomes of learners

This study demonstrated that the constant average speed of a dynamic car could be measured and calculated using the smartphone magnetometer. The apparatus setup was built using a dynamic car, a linear track up to 1.50 m, a bunch of magnets, and a smartphone magnetometer application. The smartphone magnetometer application, ‘Physics Toolbox Suite’, was free for the experiment. The magnet and smartphone magnetometer were attached on a linear track and dynamic car, respectively. When the dynamic car are moving on the car track, the smartphone magnetometer will measure the magnetic feld value versus the time relation. The magnetic feld value will fluctuate, increasing when close to the magnet or decrease when the distance from the magnet increases. The magnetic feld properties (peaks time) versus the magnet distance position were analyzed using linear ftting, and we fnd the average speed of the dynamic car. We hope that this magnetometer experiment will be valuably used in general physics laboratories
