The university experience consists of raise the introspective reflection through clouds on major concepts that characterize old age with social application Wordle (http://www.wordle.net). Outcomes, controversies and gastric volume after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in the treatment of obesity
AbstractBackgroundLaparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical procedure for the treatment of morbid obesity. However, there are still controversies regarding its efficiency in terms of weight reduction and incidence of complications. In this prospective study, the experience is presented of a referral centre for the treatment of morbid obesity with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.Material and methodsA prospective study on 73 patients subjected to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy from February 2009 to September 2013. Patients were followed-up for a period of 12 months, evaluating the development of complications, reduction of gastric volume, and the weight loss associated with the surgery, as well as their impact on the improvement of comorbidities present at beginning of the study.ResultsThere was a statistically a significantly reduction between the preoperative body mass index (BMI) and the BMI at 12 months after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (p<0.001), despite there being an increase in the gastric volume during follow-up, measured at one month and 12 months after surgery (p<0.001). Five patients (6.85%) had complications, with none of them serious and with no deaths in the whole series.ConclusionsLaparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of morbid obesity. Its use is associated with a significant reduction in the presence of comorbidities associated with obesity. Multicentre studies with a longer period of monitoring are required to confirm the efficacy and safety of this surgical technique
An analysis of the corporate social responsibility of the spanish marinas
A purL mutant of Sinorhizobium fredii HH103 is symbiotically defective and altered in its lipopolysaccharide
The pleiotropic phenotype of an auxotrophic purL mutant (SVQ295) of Sinorhizobium fredii HH103
has been investigated. SVQ295 forms colonies that are translucent, produce more slime and
absorb less Congo red than those of wild-type strain HH103. SVQ295 did not grow in minimal
medium unless the culture was supplemented with thiamin and adenine or with thiamin and
AICA-riboside (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide 1-b-D-ribofuranoside), an intermediate of purine
biosynthesis. Bacterial cultures supplemented with AICA-riboside or adenine reached the same
culture density, although the doubling time of SVQ295 cultures containing AICA-riboside was
clearly longer. S. fredii SVQ295 induced pseudonodules on Glycine max and failed to nodulate
six different legumes. On Glycyrrhiza uralensis, however, nodules showing nitrogenase activity and
containing infected plant cells were formed. SVQ295 showed auto-agglutination when grown
in liquid TY medium and its lipopolysaccharide (LPS) electrophoretic profile differed from that of its
parental strain HH103-1. In addition, four monoclonal antibodies that recognize the LPS of S. fredii
HH103 failed to recognize the LPS produced by SVQ295. In contrast, 1H-NMR spectra of
K-antigen capsular polysaccharides (KPS) produced by SVQ295 and the wild-type strain HH103
were similar. Co-inoculation of soybean plants with SVQ295 and SVQ116 (a nodA mutant
derivative of HH103) produced nitrogen-fixing nodules that were only occupied by SVQ116
Plasma miR-486-5p Expression Is Upregulated in Atrial Fibrillation Patients with Broader Low-Voltage Areas
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia worldwide, affecting 1% of the population over 60 years old. The incidence and prevalence of AF are increasing globally, representing a relevant health problem, suggesting that more advanced strategies for predicting risk stage are highly needed. miRNAs mediate several processes involved in AF. Our aim was to identify miRNAs with a prognostic value as biomarkers in patients referred for AF ablation and its association with LVA extent, based on low-voltage area (LVA) maps. In this study, we recruited 44 AF patients referred for catheter ablation. We measured the expression of 84 miRNAs in plasma from peripheral blood in 3 different groups based on LVA extent. Expression analysis showed that miR-486-5p was significantly increased in patients with broader LVA (4-fold, p = 0.0002; 5-fold, p = 0.0001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that miR-486-5p expression could predict atrium LVA (AUC, 0.8958; p = 0.0015). Also, miR-486-5p plasma levels were associated with AF-type (AUC, 0.7137; p = 0.0453). In addition, miR-486-5p expression was positively correlated with LVA percentage, left atrial (LA) area, and LA volume (r = 0.322, p = 0.037; r = 0.372, p = 0.015; r = 0.319, p = 0.045, respectively). These findings suggest that miR-486-5p expression might have prognostic significance in LVA extent in patients with AFThis research was funded by Xunta de Galicia: Programa de Consolidación de Unidades de Investigación Competitivas do SUG (GRC 2019/02), the Centro Singular de Investigación de Galicia acreditación 2019–2022 (ED431G 2019/02), the European Union European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and National Institute of Health Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias, Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) Madrid, Spain (PI18/00821, CIBERCV CB16/11/00226 and FAISCA Intramural Project 2019)S
SMEPP: A Secure Middleware For Embedded P2P
Abstract: The increasing presence of embedded devices with internet access capabilities constitutes a new challenge in software development. These devices are now cooperating in a distributed manner towards what has been called as "Internet of Things". In this new scenario the client-server model is sometimes not adequate and dynamic ad-hoc networks are more common than before. However, security poses as a hard issue as these systems are extremely vulnerable. In this paper, we introduce SMEPP project, which aims at developing a middleware designed for P2P systems with a special focus on embedded devices and security. SMEPP is designed to be deployed in a wide range of devices. It tries to ease the development of applications hiding platforms details and other aspects such as scalability, adaptability and interoperability. A full implementation of this middleware is already available that incorporates security features specially designed for low-resource devices. Moreover, we describe two business applications being developed using this middleware in the context of "Digital Home" and "Environmental Monitoring in Industrial Environments"
