In recent years, there has been a growing demand for online. University of Porto (U.Porto), established an unit of Educational Technologies 20 years ago and after an accumulated experience in providing an Learning Management Systems (LMS) to support face-to-face teaching and learning (T&L), in 2016, the U.Porto developed AcademiaUP, a portal and a LMS platform for the delivery of e-learning and blended learning courses. Based on LMS Moodle, AcademiaUP considers the specificities of deployment and creation of distance education contents and materials, as well as the target audience characteristics. Moodle was chosen because our acquired experience but also for its maturity, for being open source and fully customizable and for a large support community.AcademiaUP, has an extensively customized interface and technical infrastructure. It integrates with external tools, BigBlueButton to better respond to synchronous online communication and Panopto for lecture capture and video production. AcademiaUP uses new plugins and a new theme to improve usability and enable a more suitable navigation for formal and non-formal T&L environments - sequential content delivery and contextual presentation of activities and resources. When designing the new LMS for AcademiaUP we were inspired in Coursera Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) approach for the marketing of the courses and in Open2Study for the delivering of the courses. All changes, however, avoided altering Moodle's core code, allowing for easier upgrades whenever newer Moodle versions are available. For the future, we intend to integrate AcademiaUP with the University information system to improve consistency of courses and users essential to accreditation procedures and quality assurance

UID/LIN/03213/2013In this short paper I focus on linguistic commentaries of ancient Portuguese texts (Castro 1991; 2006) and I try to show that this type of activity may constitute a useful and relevant method to inspire the discussion of language change topics. I comment on variants between the two remnant testimonies of Testamento de Afonso II (1214) (the most ancient royal text written in Portuguese) to illustrate the discussion.publishersversionpublishe

Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que os jovens com PDI que participaram conseguiram progressiva e finalmente realizar de modo autónomo atividades relacionadas com a ida às compras, com a vida doméstica, com a deslocação fazendo uso das funcionalidades do smartphone, revelando assim novas competências ao nível do comportamento adaptativo.ABSTRACT Young people with disturbance of intellectual development (IDD) present difficulties, among other areas, in practical adaptive functioning (difficulties in their independent life such as personal hygiene, domestic life, managing money, moving alone, enjoying moments of leisure or performing work tasks). This study has as a problem of research to know how to promote personal autonomy, social autonomy and leisure in young people in the process of transition to adulthood. As a hypothesis, we establish that the use of the smartphone, as a universal and everyday technology, can drive the development of practical adaptive functioning and reduce adult monitoring in young people with IDD. This study is an action research that uses qualitative and quantitative method techniques (documentary analysis, observation grids, support intensity scale for children (SIS-C), field notes, focus group interviews). Four young people with PDI were the students who participated in this intervention project. The project had four phases: design, with the application of SIS-C to know in which practical skills the student needs greater support and to evaluate his basic skills in the use of the smartphone; planning, involving the choice of smartphone applications for different activities and the planning of smartphone use sessions in autonomy activities (trips, going to purchases, performing a domestic task); implementation of the project, ran during forty-eight sessions in which the smartphone was used and continuous data analysis and evaluation was carried out; finally, the final evaluation of the intervention project implied the collection of participants' opinions (focus group). The results obtained allow us to conclude that young people with PDI who participated managed to progressively and finally perform autonomously activities related to going to purchases, with domestic life, with the displacement making use of the features of the smartphone, thus revealing new skills in terms of adaptive behavior.N/

UID/LIN/03213/2013The work proposed here has as general objective to contribute to a characterization of the values expressed by the "futuro do passado / condicional" (COND) in past sentences of Portuguese, hoping to provide some relevant elements for the diachronic study of this verbal paradigm. I will synthesize some data on the formation of Romance languages (section 1) and briefly describe their functioning in the contemporary language (Section 2). The central section of the paper (section 3) presents and describes occurrences of COND using data collected in texts from the thirteenth to fifteenth centuries. On the latter aspect, I intend to include in my study data that contribute to clarify the relation / contrast between COND and the simple past-perfect (section 4),authorsversionpublishe

    Get PDF
Entrepreneurship is an issue that causes a lot of controversy. Some people assert that becoming an entrepreneur is a solution for young students; some others argue that this statement is not so obvious, since the implementation of a business demands investment and requires capital, capital that is not easy to obtain. This article looks at a sample of 275 college students in Portugal and seeks to investigate if there is any relationship of entrepreneurial intentions of university students and some variables as training areas, higher education institutions, gender, age and family influences. To achieve this goal, a survey was carried out to college students, trying to understand how the training schools encouraged the creation of an entrepreneurial culture, in what extent students were motivated to entrepreneurship and what are their intents for the future. The results demonstrate that entrepreneurial education is the basis of cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit in college students. The training areas, the ambition of having his/her/own business, having a great idea and having family´s history of entrepreneurial characteristics are the main causes that influence entrepreneurial intentions in college students

A partir deste estudo, novos procedimentos poderão ser investigados, visando favorecer a aprendizagem desta modalidade ainda pouco acessível às minoriasAbstract: After verifying the lack of data regarding procedures for teaching field tennis to mentally-handicapped people, we haveplanned a specific work with students with Down's syndrome. The purpose of the present research was to provide a learning of this sport through adequate adapted procedures which take into account the special characteristics of the subjects. This research was carried out with 8 subjects ages 9 to 15, divided into groups according to their degree of development and age. They all had 45-minute classes once a week. As methodology procedure we have used task analysis, asystematic and participative observations, as well as videotapes, photographs and notes to gather data to complement the evaluation of the work. After the suggestion of the procedures, we can conclude that the students are capable of learnng the basics of the sport, as well as improving some aspects regarding adaptive behavior such as autonomy, social aptitude, community participation, health and safety, and leisure. This research may be used as a starting point to the investigation of new procedures, aiming at supporting the learning of tennis, which is still somewhat inaccessible to minoritiesMestradoAtividade Fisica e AdaptaçãoMestre em Educação Físic

The latter include event organization personnel and coaches. In the present study we have attempted to assess the number of physical education professionals involved in the training and coaching of the athletes served by that program, inasmuch as Special Olympics International does not require that the coach/trainer be a physical education professional. Therefore, we have intended to discuss the prospects for the involvement of these professionals in the work with people with mental disability. In order to achieve that goal, in addition to a bibliographic research on mental disability, Special Olympics, sports, adapted physical education and adapted sports, the collection of data has been effected through a questionnaire which was sent to 140 chapters of the Special Olympics worldwide (including the American states) and also through an interview with the President and CEO of the Special Olympics Brazil, besides a participative observation during two World Games (summer and winter). We have received back 75 answers from the foreign programs, which were then plotted into graphs. The answers show that the number of family members and/or volunteers from other professions who are involved as coaches/trainers of these athletes is large and that physical education professionals are the majority or the entirety of them only in places like Brazil, France and Russia, which are specific countries where there are laws regulating that practice. In view of the small number of chapters that employ the work of physical education professionals for training, and in view of our firm belief in the learning potential of people with mental disability, we suggest that Special Olympics International reexamines this matter, since on account of his background and detachment the physical education professional is theoretically more competent to use the sports as a learning, development and personal growth tool, as compared to the volunteer. That professional is also more capable of utilizing the philosophy proposed by the program so more and more athletes have a chance to show their competence through a coherent sports practice and to be active and participating citizens in a more equal, respectful and accepting environmentDoutoradoDoutor em Educação Físic

Pest-OE/LIN/UI3213/2014This paper focuses on the study of a particular construction – haver ‘have’ (simple pluperfect) de (preposition) + infinitive – in two Portuguese texts dating from late 15th century. Since it combines values inherent to the pluperfect – past in the past – and to haver de – posteriority – the construction has a value of a ‘future in the past’. Part of the attestations of haver de + infinitive, however, show a nonactualization reading, while others appear to be ambiguous in what concerns the actualization / nonactualization of the situation. I argue that the very specific value(s) of this construction, with a predictable low frequency, impose a careful selection of the textual sources to be used, on the basis of their genre characteristics. I show furthermore that in some cases the accurate interpretation of the value expressed by a particular occurrence is only triggered by the narrative sequence, and thus the need to pay close attention to the specificity of the texts to be studied, given that they constitute the only witnesses to the ‘grammar’ of past language stages.publishersversionpublishe
