Auxiliary Schemes for Axonometric Drawing to Add to its Practical Utility

    Get PDF
The present report is intended to help enhance practical utility of axnometric manual drawing techniques. As a pertinent aid,a simple geometrical scheme is introduced to make transformation easier of a trimetric system into its dimetric equivalent, and v.v.; specifically concerning rotation of both systems about anynormal to a coordinate/principal plane they have in common. The above subscheme coupled with now reconsidered auxiliary views to the main drawing and/or the customary resorts serves to make it easier in drawing to account for angular relations between the line of sight and the considered axonometric coordinate system and to address oblique or non-axonometric linear elements and circular segments of an object than only with those resorts,e. g. scale ratios for axonometric lines and coordinate plane revolution to deal with non-axonometric portions (with the known method ofintersections as a generalization thereof). Utility of the customary drawing routine combined with introduced partial alternatives thereto, notably in drawing to meet compound geometrical conditions,is noted in an example to show the agency of our present procedureand others to clarify relatedly conceived additional use of the conventional ellipse guides

Direct measurement of spectral shape of Cherenkov light using cosmic muons

    Get PDF
The spectral pulse shape of Cherenkov lights was directly measured by using cosmic muons. The observed decay times for early and late timing were 5.0 and 5.2ns, respectively. They were actually shorter than the time of scintillation lights which were also measured as 9.3ns and 9.2ns, respectively. However we could not see the difference of the rise time between scintillation and Cherenkov lights. This was due to the slow response of our DAQ equipment, photomultiplier and FADC digitize

A micro ultrasonic motor using a micro-machined cylindrical bulk PZT transducer

    Get PDF
In this paper, a micro ultrasonic motor using a micro-machined bulk piezoelectric transducer is introduced. The cylindrical shaped bulk piezoelectric transducer, a diameter of 0.8 mm and a height of 2.2 mm, was developed as stator transducer for traveling wave type ultrasonic motor. The transducer was made of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) bulk ceramics, and formed by micro machining, Ni plating and laser beam cutting process. Using this stator transducer, we have fabricated a cylindrical micro ultrasonic motor, a diameter of 2.0 mm and a height of 5.9 mm. We have also evaluated some characteristics and succeeded in driving the micro ultrasonic motor.</p

Precise pulse shape measurement of Cherenkov light using sub-MeV electrons from Sr-90/Y-90 beta source

The precise spectral pulse shape from Cherenkov lights was directly measured by using sub-MeV electrons from 90Sr/90Y beta source. The observed shape was clearly different from the shape of scintillation light. The pulse rise and fall (decay) time for Cherenkov light were 0.8 ns and 2.5 ns, respectively. They were actually shorter than those times of scintillation light which were also measured by 1.6 ns and 6.5 ns, respectively. This clear Thisclearclear difference of rise time will be used for the pulse shape discrimination in order to select PMTs which receive Cherenkov lights, and the topological information due to Cherenkov light will be used for the reduction of backgrounds from 208Tl beta decay which should be major backgrounds observed around Q-value (3.35MeV)of 96Zr neutrinoless double beta decay

Development of a large area gas photomultiplier with GEM/μ\muPIC

We are developing a new photon detector with micro pattern gaseous detectors. A semitransparent CsI photocathode is combined with 10cm×\times10cm GEM/μ\muPIC for the first prototype which is aimed for the large liquid Xe detectors. Using Ar+C2_2H6_6 (10%) gas, we achieved the gas gain of 10510^5 which is enough to detect single photoelectron. We, then, irradiated UV photons from a newly developed solid scintillator, LaF3_3(Nd), to the detector and successfully detected single photoelectron.Comment: Poster presentation at ICHEP08 Philadelphia, USA, July 2008. 3 pages, LaTeX, 4 eps figure

Aggregation of scaffolding protein DISC1 dysregulates phosphodiesterase 4 in Huntington’s disease

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a polyglutamine (polyQ) disease caused by aberrant expansion of the polyQ tract in Huntingtin (HTT). While motor impairment mediated by polyQ-expanded HTT has been intensively studied, molecular mechanisms for nonmotor symptoms in HD, such as psychiatric manifestations, remain elusive. Here we have demonstrated that HTT forms a ternary protein complex with the scaffolding protein DISC1 and cAMP-degrading phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) to regulate PDE4 activity. We observed pathological cross-seeding between DISC1 and mutant HTT aggregates in the brains of HD patients as well as in a murine model that recapitulates the polyQ pathology of HD (R6/2 mice). In R6/2 mice, consequent reductions in soluble DISC1 led to dysregulation of DISC1-PDE4 complexes, aberrantly increasing the activity of PDE4. Importantly, exogenous expression of a modified DISC1, which binds to PDE4 but not mutant HTT, normalized PDE4 activity and ameliorated anhedonia in the R6/2 mice. We propose that cross-seeding of mutant HTT and DISC1 and the resultant changes in PDE4 activity may underlie the pathology of a specific subset of mental manifestations of HD, which may provide an insight into molecular signaling in mental illness in general
