Impact of Capital Gains Tax on Stock Investment in Pakistan

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the impact of capital gains tax on stocks investment in Pakistan. Whenever there is an increase in the value of a capital asset realized over its cost it is termed as capital gain and the tax imposed thereof is called Capital Gains Tax. The study finds that levy of Capital Gains Tax results in lower volume of stock investment and lesser growth in assets/securities whereas the revenues have also declined as further investments have declined due to the fears of documentation of small investors by the tax authorities

Assessment of Professional Learning Community in Private Schools of Lahore

    Get PDF
The purpose of the study was to investigate existence of professional learning community (PLC) in five private schools of Lahore. The researcher used an instrument Professional Learning Community Assessment Revised developed and revised by Olivier, Hipp, and Huffman (2010) to collect data from 800 teachers from five private reputed schools of the Lahore. The sample was selected conveniently because of very limited to no access to certain schools. With response rate of 80% and reliability of .951 in local context the data were analyzed. The analysis revealed existence of all dimensions of PLC in all five schools of the Lahore. Supportive condition (structure) was perceived as dominant dimension of the PLC. Insignificant difference was identified between perceptions of male and female teachers. Moreover ANOVA revealed that in Heaven school and Custodian school two dimensions of the PLC, shared and supportive leadership and shared values and vision are practiced better than other three schools: Shining star, Grammar, and Hospitality. This research has identified existence of PLC in private schools of the Lahore and invites researchers to explore the same in public schools and further investigate relationship of PLC with school effectiveness, students’ achievement, teachers’’ professional development and other variables

Design and Performance Analysis of Hardware Realization of 3GPP Physical Layer for 5G Cell Search

5G Cell Search (CS) is the first step for user equipment (UE) to initiate the communication with the 5G node B (gNB) every time it is powered ON. In cellular networks, CS is accomplished via synchronization signals (SS) broadcasted by gNB. 5G 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) specifications offer a detailed discussion on the SS generation at gNB but a limited understanding of their blind search, and detection is available. Unlike 4G, 5G SS may not be transmitted at the center of carrier frequency and their frequency location is unknown to UE. In this work, we demonstrate the 5G CS by designing 3GPP compatible hardware realization of the physical layer (PHY) of the gNB transmitter and UE receiver. The proposed SS detection explores a novel down-sampling approach resulting in a significant reduction in complexity and latency. Via detailed performance analysis, we analyze the functional correctness, computational complexity, and latency of the proposed approach for different word lengths, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and down-sampling factors. We demonstrate the complete CS functionality on GNU Radio-based RFNoC framework and USRP-FPGA platform. The 3GPP compatibility and demonstration on hardware strengthen the commercial significance of the proposed work

Effect of Leadership Styles on Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Employee Turnover Intention

    Get PDF
The study is aimed at finding the effect of leadership styles on organizational citizenship behavior and employees’ turnover intentions. A descriptive survey research strategy was adopted over a sample of 240 respondents selected conveniently from eight universities of Pakistan. Multifactor Leadership  Scale developed by the Williams and Anderson (1991) was used for data collection. Turnover Intention Scale developed by Roodt (2004) was used to determine employee turnover intention. Descriptive statistics along with ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The research indicated that transformational and transactional style of leadership have a positive relationship with organizational citizenship behavior whereas, laissez faire style has a negative relation with organizational citizenship behavior and positively related with employee turnover intention. Transformational and transactional style of leadership had an insignificant relation with employee turnover intention. &nbsp

ESTIMATION OF AGGREGATE CONSUMPTION FUNCTION FOR HIGH INCOME COUNTRIES

    Get PDF
Aggregate Real Private Consumption (ARPC) is one of themajor components of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) thatcontributes to specify any economy’s long term living standards. The contribution of ARPC stands on average around 55%. It is therefore important to understand the components of consumption, which is almost more than half of the aggregate economic expenditure. The study is an attempt to make a case for developing countries to bring policy level changes in order to determine the consumption pattern of developing countries’ GDP. Using an appropriate empirical model, the study investigates the validity of Permanent Income Hypothesis (PIH) and Absolute Income Hypothesis (AIH) on ARPC for selected developed economies. The results of the study reveal that the importantdeterminants of ARPC in the long-run are real GDP and wealth, while in the short-run they are real interest rate and unemployment rate

University Students’ Metacognitive Skills with Reference to Age, Discipline and Progression in Studies

The purpose of this quantitative study was to compare the metacognitive skills of university students’ studying in medical, engineering, IT, sciences, social sciences, management sciences and commerce in public universities and medical colleges of Lahore. Universities were selected conveniently and students were selected randomly. Data were collected from 433 students from five public universities enrolled in different semesters of the academic year 2016. Metacognitive skills were measured by using Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) developed by Schraw and Dennison (1994). To address the research questions, statistical techniques such as descriptive statistics, independent sample t test and one way ANOVA, were used to analyze data. The study revealed that majority of the university students’ had a medium level of metacognitive skills, and that the variables of age, major discipline, and the progression in studies had no effect on their level of metacognitive skills. The study informed the policy makers, curriculum planners, teachers and administrators that they are responsible for fostering the metacognitive skills of students may play an effective part in the society. The findings of the study might help to make desired changes in curriculum, pedagogy etc

Health-care preventive measures, logistics challenges and corporate social responsibility during the COVID-19 pandemic: break the ice

    Get PDF
Purpose – The study aims to analyze the role of coronavirus testing capacity to possibly reduce the case fatality ratio (CFR) in a large cross-section of countries. The study controlled health-care expenditures, logistics performance index (LPI), carbon damages, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) to understand the nature of causation between the CFR and stated factors. Design/methodology/approach – The study used a cross-sectional regression apparatus for coefficient estimates and variance decomposition analysis (VDA) for forecasting relationships between the variables over time. Findings – The results confirmed the W-shaped relationship between CFR and case-to-test ratio (CTR) in the presence of a LPI that exacerbates the CFR cases across countries. The VDA estimates suggest that carbon damages, logistics activities, and CSR are likely to influence CFR over time. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the study is believed to be the first study that assesses the W-shaped relationship between the CFR and CTR in the presence of dynamic variables, which helps to formulate long-term sustainable health-care policies worldwide

Impact of Tax Reduction Policy on Banking Sector in Pakistan

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the impact of tax policy reforms on the profits of banking sector. The empirical results of unit root and Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) test reveal that the data series of tax is positively skewed whereas data series of profitability is negatively skewed. The kurtosis value indicates that all the series are platykurtic. From the value of ADF statistics, it is evident that all the variables are non-stationery at log level and are stationary at their first difference. Granger Causality Test shows that profitability of banking does not granger because tax but tax granger cause profitability of banking which depicts that the change in tax rate affects the profitability of banking industries. The study finds that reduction in corporate income tax rates for banking sector has produced positive impact in shape of increased banking sector profits and assets during the period under review
