CP violation in a light Higgs boson decay from tau-spin correlations at a linear collider
We present a new method to measure the transverse spin correlation in the
decay. The method has been devised to be insensitive to the
beamstrahlung which affects the definition of the beam energy at a linear
collider. In the case of two decays, using the anticipated
detector performance of the TESLA project, we get a promising estimation of the
error expected on the measurement of a CP violating phase.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, version published in Phys. Lett.
On Electroweak Matching Conditions for Top Pair Production at Threshold
We determine the real parts of electroweak matching conditions relevant for
top quark pair production close to threshold in e+e- annihilation at
next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) order. Numerically the corrections
are comparable to the NNLL QCD corrections.Comment: 12 pages, revtex4, 1 postscript figure included; minor changes in

Long-range Energy Transfer and Ionization in Extended Quantum Systems Driven by Ultrashort Spatially Shaped Laser Pulses
The processes of ionization and energy transfer in a quantum system composed
of two distant H atoms with an initial internuclear separation of 100 atomic
units (5.29 nm) have been studied by the numerical solution of the
time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation beyond the Born-Oppenheimer
approximation. Thereby it has been assumed that only one of the two H atoms was
excited by temporally and spatially shaped laser pulses at various laser
carrier frequencies. The quantum dynamics of the extended H-H system, which was
taken to be initially either in an unentangled or an entangled ground state,
has been explored within a linear three-dimensional model, including two z
coordinates of the electrons and the internuclear distance R. An efficient
energy transfer from the laser-excited H atom (atom A) to the other H atom
(atom B) and the ionization of the latter have been found. It has been shown
that the physical mechanisms of the energy transfer as well as of the
ionization of atom B are the Coulomb attraction of the laser driven electron of
atom A by the proton of atom B and a short-range Coulomb repulsion of the two
electrons when their wave functions strongly overlap in the domain of atom B.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figure
Future of the automobile industry. Summary
Electromobility is currently fuelling hopes worldwide for a more sustainable development of the transport sector. The TAB report analyses ecological, economic and social aspects of electromobility for Germany and compares them with those of conventional automobiles. The ecological balance is particularly in favour of electromobility when low- or zero-CO2 energy sources are used, because in addition to greenhouse gases, other pollutant emissions are also significantly reduced. The economic analysis examines economic efficiency, implications for the automotive value chain and jobs, and the supply of critical raw materials. With a future stronger diffusion of electromobility in Germany, slightly positive effects on the employment situation and the development of GDP are expected. The social implications are examined on the basis of acceptance, user behaviour, traffic noise and accidents. The report shows that a positive user acceptance can be achieved with a wider range of models while complying with common quality and comfort standards as well as extended test possibilities, but also by reducing acquisition costs, a wider range of user-friendly mobility and business models and, last but not least, a transparent positive environmental balance. On the basis of the analyses, critical aspects and potentials of electric mobility are discussed, leading to policy-relevant conclusions and options for action

Dichlorodioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes bearing oxygen-donor ligands as olefin epoxidation catalysts
Treatment of the solvent adduct [MoO2Cl2(THF)2] with either 2 equivalents of N,N-dimethylbenzamide (DMB) or 1 equivalent of N,N'-diethyloxamide (DEO) gave the dioxomolybdenum(vi) complexes [MoO2Cl2(DMB)2] () and [MoO2Cl2(DEO)] (). The molecular structures of and were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both complexes present a distorted octahedral geometry and adopt the cis-oxo, trans-Cl, cis-L configuration typical of complexes of the type [MoO2X2(L)n], with either the monodentate DMB or bidentate DEO oxygen-donor ligands occupying the equatorial positions trans to the oxo groups. The complexes were applied as homogeneous catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins, namely cis-cyclooctene (Cy), 1-octene, trans-2-octene, α-pinene and (R)-(+)-limonene, using tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidant. In the epoxidation of Cy at 55 °C, the desired epoxide was the only product and turnover frequencies in the range of ca. 3150-3200 mol molMo(-1) h(-1) could be reached. The catalytic production of cyclooctene oxide was investigated in detail, varying either the reaction temperature or the cosolvent. Complexes and were also applied in liquid-liquid biphasic catalytic epoxidation reactions by using an ionic liquid of the type [C4mim][X] (C4mim = 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium; X = NTf2, BF4 or PF6] as a solvent to immobilise the metal catalysts. Recycling for multiple catalytic runs was achieved without loss of activity

Review of Properties of the Top Quark from Measurements at the Tevatron
This review summarizes the program in the physics of the top quark being
pursued at Fermilab's Tevatron proton-antiproton collider at a center of mass
energy of 1.96 TeV. More than a decade after the discovery of the top quark at
the two collider detectors CDF and D0, the Tevatron has been the only
accelerator to produce top quarks and to study them directly.
The Tevatron's increased luminosity and center of mass energy offer the
possibility to scrutinize the properties of this heaviest fundamental particle
through new measurements that were not feasible before, such as the first
evidence for electroweak production of top quarks and the resulting direct
constraints on the involved couplings. Better measurements of top quark
properties provide more stringent tests of predictions from the standard model
of elementary particle physics. In particular, the improvement in measurements
of the mass of the top quark, with the latest uncertainty of 0.7% marking the
most precisely measured quark mass to date, further constrains the prediction
of the mass of the still to be discovered Higgs boson.Comment: Revised and updated for publication in Int. J. Mod. Phys. A. 138

TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, interferon gamma-induced protein 10, and C-reactive protein in predicting the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infection : a prospective cohort study
Background: Early prognostication of COVID-19 severity will potentially improve patient care. Biomarkers,
such as TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP-10), and
C-reactive protein (CRP), might represent possible tools for point-of-care testing and severity prediction.
Methods: In this prospective cohort study, we analyzed serum levels of TRAIL, IP-10, and CRP in patients
with COVID-19, compared them with control subjects, and investigated the association with disease sever ity.
Results: A total of 899 measurements were performed in 132 patients (mean age 64 years, 40.2% females).
Among patients with COVID-19, TRAIL levels were lower (49.5 vs 87 pg/ml, P = 0.0142), whereas IP-10
and CRP showed higher levels (667.5 vs 127 pg/ml, P <0.001; 75.3 vs 1.6 mg/l, P <0.001) than healthy
controls. TRAIL yielded an inverse correlation with length of hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) stay,
Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, and National Early Warning Score, and IP-10 showed a positive cor relation with disease severity. Multivariable regression revealed that obesity (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]
5.434, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.005-29.38), CRP (aOR 1.014, 95% CI 1.002-1.027), and peak IP-10 (aOR
1.001, 95% CI 1.00-1.002) were independent predictors of in-ICU mortality
