Vertaistoiminnan muodot ja merkitys päihde- ja mielenterveysjärjestöissä

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan vertaistoimintaa päihde- ja mielenterveysjärjestöissä. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu kahdesta kyselystä. Ensimmäisessä kartoitettiin paikallisten päihde- ja mielenterveysyhdistysten (n=187) ja valtakunnallisten järjestöjen (n=28) johtajien käsityksiä vertaisuuden merkityksestä niiden toiminnassa sekä niissä tuotettavia vertaistoiminnan muotoja. Täydentävää aineistoa kerättiin järjestöjen työntekijöille (n=61) ja vertaisille (n=75) kohdistetulla kyselyllä, jossa tarkasteltiin vertaistoiminnan merkitystä, siihen liittyviä tehtäviä, vertaisten roolia ja asemaa sekä heihin kohdistuvia tukitoimenpiteitä ja tuen tarvetta.Vertaistoiminnalla oli keskeinen merkitys päihde- ja mielenterveysjärjestökentällä. Sen painoarvo kuitenkin vaihteli. Vertaistoiminnan merkitys oli suurempi ja siihen liittyviä toimintamuotoja oli enemmän suurilla toiminta-alueilla toimivissa yhdistyksissä. Sen painoarvo korostui etenkin ennen vuotta 1986 perustetuissa yhdistyksissä.Vertaisten rooli ja tehtävät hahmottuivat hieman eri tavoin työntekijöiden ja vertaisten itsensä näkökulmasta.Työntekijät korostivat vertaisten roolia järjestöjen asiakastyössä ja konkreettisessa auttamis- ja tukitoiminnassa, kun taas vertaiset itse näkivät roolinsa laajemmin myös järjestön ulkosuhteissa ja yhteiskunnallisina vaikuttajina. Aineiston vertaisista kolmannes oli kokenut uupumusta tai väsymystä toimiessaan vertaisena. Järjestöissä on tärkeää taata sekä vertaisten oman orientaation huomioiminen toiminnan suunnittelussa ja kehittämisessä että tarvittavat resurssit vertaisten tukemiseen. AbstractThe forms and importance of peer support in substance abuse and mental health organizations The study examines peer support in substance abuse and mental health organizations. The study is based on two sets of data. Information on the importance and forms of peer support provided was collected by a questionnaire sent to local (n=187) and national (n=28) non-governmental organizations in the fields of substance abuse and mental health, addressed to the CEO or chairman of the board. Supplementary data on the roles and tasks of peers as well as their need for support in their own work was collected by a questionnaire sent to the personnel (n=61) and peers (n=75) in these organizations. Peer support had a central role in both substance abuse and mental health organizations but it differed in different kinds of organizations. Peer support had a stronger emphasis and was more common in organizations operating in larger cities. Also, organizations founded especially before year 1986 had a stronger element of peer support in them compared to younger organizations. The peers’ roles and tasks were perceived somewhat differently by the personnel and the peers themselves. The personnel emphasized the peers’ role in the organization’s customer work and practical help and support related tasks, whereas the peers themselves perceived their role more broadly, including in the organizations’ external relations and in advocacy work. Every third of the peers who answered the questionnaire had experienced fatigue or exhaustion in their work as a peer. The results highlight the need to consider the peer workers’ own orientation and expectations in planning peer support in substance and mental health organizations, as well as the need to provide sufficient resources for supporting the peers’ well-being and coping skills in their work. A molecular specificity code for the three mammalian KDEL receptors

AC-terminal KDEL-like motif prevents secretion of soluble endoplasmic reticulum (ER)–resident proteins. This motif interacts with KDEL receptors localized in the intermediate compartment and Golgi apparatus. Such binding triggers retrieval back to the ER via a coat protein I–dependent pathway. To date, two human KDEL receptors have been reported. Here, we report the Golgi localization of a third human KDEL receptor. Using a reporter construct system from a screen of 152 variants, we identified 35 KDEL-like variants that result in efficient ER localization but do not match the current Prosite motif for ER localization ([KRHQSA]-[DENQ]-E-L). We cloned 16 human proteins with one of these motifs and all were found in the ER. A subsequent screen by bimolecular fluorescence complementation determined the specificities of the three human KDEL receptors. Each KDEL receptor has a unique pattern of motifs with which it interacts. This suggests a specificity in the retrieval of human proteins that contain different KDEL variants

Zebrafish GDNF and its co-receptor GFR alpha 1 activate the human RET receptor and promote the survival of dopaminergic neurons in vitro

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor ( GDNF) is a ligand that activates, through coreceptor GDNF family receptor alpha-1 (GFR alpha 1) and receptor tyrosine kinase "RET ", several signaling pathways crucial in the development and sustainment of multiple neuronal populations. We decided to study whether non-mammalian orthologs of these three proteins have conserved their function: can they activate the human counterparts? Using the baculovirus expression system, we expressed and purified Danio rerio RET, and its binding partners GFRa1 and GDNF, and Drosophila melanogaster RET and two isoforms of coreceptor GDNF receptor-like. Our results report high-level insect cell expression of posttranslationally modified and dimerized zebrafish RET and its binding partners. We also found that zebrafish GFRa1 and GDNF are comparably active as mammalian cell- produced ones. We also report the first measurements of the affinity of the complex to RET in solution: at least for zebrafish, the Kd for GFR alpha 1-GDNF binding RET is 5.9 mu M. Surprisingly, we also found that zebrafish GDNF as well as zebrafish GFRa1 robustly activated human RET signaling and promoted the survival of cultured mouse dopaminergic neurons with comparable efficiency to mammalian GDNF, unlike E. coli-produced human proteins. These results contradict previous studies suggesting that mammalian GFRa1 and GDNF cannot bind and activate non-mammalian RET and vice versa.Peer reviewe

Terveyserojen kaventaminen on ollut terveyspolitiikan keskeinen tavoite pitkään, mutta silti ne jatkavat kasvuaan. Työpaikoilla on omalta osaltaan mahdollisuus vaikuttaa väestön terveyteen ja hyvinvointiin. Työpaikan kulttuurilla on vaikutusta työntekijöiden terveyteen esimerkiksi toimintatapojen välityksellä. Terveyserojen muodostumiseen voidaan kenties vaikuttaa suuntaamalla pitkäjänteisiä työkykyä tukevia ja terveyttä edistäviä kokonaisvaltaisia toimia erityisesti niiden toimialojen työpaikoille, joiden työntekijöille on kasaantunut sekä työhön että elintapoihin liittyviä riskejä

Uudenlaista kehittämiskulttuuria julkisen sektorin työpaikoille

Uudenlaista kehittämiskulttuuria julkisen sektorin työpaikoille -hankkeessa toteutettiin Työterveyslaitoksen Terveyttä edistävän työpaikan kriteeristö -prosessi TEDI. Sen tavoitteena on edistää työhyvinvointia voimavara- ja ratkaisukeskeisesti yhteiskehittämisprosessin, työpajatoiminnan ja TEDI-osaajien verkostoitumisen kautta. Raportissa esitellään hanke, jossa TEDI-yhteiskehittämismenetelmää käytettiin, kehitettiin ja arvioitiin kolmannen kerran. Työyksiköihin valmennettiin ensimmäistä kertaa omat sisäiset TEDI-osaajansa

”Suomalainen Teollinen Internet – haasteesta mahdollisuudeksi” -hankkeen tavoitteena on ollut selvittää, mitkä ovat Teollisen Internetin mahdollisuudet ja uhat, kehittämisen kannusteet ja esteet sekä työllisyysvaikutukset Suomen taloudessa. Hankkeen keskeinen painotus on suomalaisessa valmistavassa teollisuudessa, mutta se leikkaa teollisuuden lisäksi myös muita keskeisiä elinkeinoelämän alueita (mm. energia, liikenne ja logistiikka, kauppa, kiinteistöt ja infrastruktuuri) sekä julkisen sektorin toimintaa. Tämän raportin pääsisältö on joukko toimenpide-ehdotuksia, joilla edistetään Suomessa toimivien yritysten menestystä Teollisen Internetin aiheuttamassa murroksessa ja tehdään Suomesta houkutteleva sijoittumiskohde yritysten eri toiminnoille. This report offers a number of recommendations to promote the success of companies in Finland in the upheaval brought on by the industrial internet and to make Finland an attractive location for various business functions. The final goal is to increase the value creation that takes place in Finland. The value is comprised of salaries with statutory expenses, profit entered as income in Finland, depreciation and rents that the whole society benefits from, for example through taxes but also by means of productivity and a rising gross domestic product.
