In this work, we present a computational toolkit to perform neuroscience experiments with people inside virtual immersive environment like a CAVE (Computer Assisted Virtual Environment). Several experiments can be designed, performed and measured for customized virtual scenes. Each participant is exposed to experiences in which they search and collect objects within a three-dimensional space, where they have to use spatial strategies to solve the task. The purpose is to study cognitive functions such as perception, attention, cognition and short term memory. These tools can reduce the time of experiments formulations and helps to discover mechanisms of attention and spatial and episodic memory. All information about each participant trajectory, the virtual scene configuration, the location of objects in these scenes, and answers to particular questions regarding the experience is collected and presented in.XV Workshop de Computación Gráfica, Imágenes y Visualización (WCGIV).Red de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

The southwestern Andes of Peru harbor a hidden taxonomic diversity of reptiles. We describe a new species of Liolaemus Wiegmann (Iguania: Liolaemidae) from xerophytic environments of the southwestern slopes of the Andes of Peru, 2,400– 2,900 m asl. The new species, previously considered to be a population of L. insolitus Cei, exhibits unique diagnostic characters of morphology, scalation and color pattern, and molecular evidence that suggest that it belongs in the Liolaemus montanus species group and the L. reichei clade. Moreover, the species is endemic to the eastern slopes of La Caldera batholith in the Department of Arequipa, southern Peru. We also provide information on the conservation status of the species and suggest it be included in the IUCN red list of the threatened species as endangered (EN). A key for the species of the L. reichei clade is provided.Fil: Quiroz, Aarón J.. Universidad Nacional de San Agustin de Arequipa; PerúFil: Huamaní Valderrama, Ling. Immunological and senescence biomarker profiles in patients after spontaneous clearance of hepatitis C virus: gender implications for long-term health risk

    Get PDF
Background: About 25% of patients with acute hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection show spontaneous clearance within the first six months of infection but may remain at risk of inflammaging, aging, and liver and non-liver disease complications. This study evaluated the differences in the plasma levels of immune checkpoints (ICs) and senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) biomarkers between patients who had spontaneously eliminated HCV infection (SC group) and individuals without evidence of HCV infection (C group). Methods: We performed a multicenter retrospective study of 56 individuals: 32 in the SC and 24 in the C groups. ICs and SASP proteins were analyzed using a Luminex 200TM analyzer. The statistical analysis used Generalized Linear Models with gamma distribution (log-link) adjusted by significant variables and sex. Results: 13 ICs (BTLA, CD137(4-1BB), CD27, CD28, CD80, GITR, HVEM, IDO, LAG-3, PD-1, PD-L1, PD-L2, and TIM-3) and 13 SASP proteins (EGF, Eotaxin, IL-1alpha, IL-1RA, IL-8, IL-13, IL-18, IP-10, SDF-1alpha, HGF, beta-NGF, PLGF-1, and SCF) were significantly higher in SC group after approximately more than two years of HCV clearance. After stratifying by sex, differences remained significant for males, which showed higher levels for 13 ICs and 4 SASP proteins in SC. While only PD-L2 was significantly higher in SC women, and no differences in SASP were found. Conclusions: Higher plasma levels of different IC and SASP proteins were found in individuals after more than two years of HCV clearance, mainly in men. Alterations in these molecules might be associated with an increased risk of developing liver and non-hepatic diseases. This study was supported by grants from Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII; grant number CP14/0010) to AFR), Fundación Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (FUAX) – Santander (grant number 1.010.932 to AFR) and by PID2021–126781OB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”. Altres ajuts: Maria Lazo-Porras is funded by the Swiss Goverment Excellence Scholarship (2018.0698).To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the World Health Organization antibiotic regimen for the treatment of paucibacillary (PB) and multibacillary (MB) leprosy compared to other available regimens. We performed a search from 1982 to July 2018 without language restriction. We included randomized controlled trials, quasi-randomized trials, and comparative observational studies (cohorts and case-control studies) that enrolled patients of any age with PB or MB leprosy that were treated with any of the leprosy antibiotic regimens established by the WHO in 1982 and used any other antimicrobial regimen as a controller. Primary efficacy outcomes included: complete clinical cure, clinical improvement of the lesions, relapse rate, treatment failure. Data were pooled using a random effects model to estimate the treatment effects reported as relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). We found 25 eligible studies, 11 evaluated patients with paucibacillary leprosy, while 13 evaluated patients with MB leprosy and 1 evaluated patients of both groups. Diverse regimen treatments and outcomes were studied. Complete cure at 6 months of multidrug therapy (MDT) in comparison to rifampin-ofloxacin-minocycline (ROM) found RR of 1.06 (95% CI 0.88-1.27) in five studies. Whereas six studies compare the same outcome at different follow up periods between 6 months and 5 years, according to the analysis ROM was not better than MDT (RR of 1.01 (95% CI 0.78-1.31)) in PB leprosy. Not better treatment than the implemented by the WHO was found. Diverse outcome and treatment regimens were studied, more statements to standardized the measurements of outcomes are needed

Importance of the clinical diagnosis of temporomandibular dysfunctions in relation to posture alterations

Posture is the result of a dynamic process of input and output of information that modulates postural tone and balance, through complex processes that are strongly conditioned by the information that comes from specific posture receptors. In dynamic balance, posture is regulated by the information received from different receptors, the body oscillates continuously around a point, which is the projection of the body's center of gravity inside a surface delimited by the individual's feet. The central nervous system has an integration and control action, in such a way that the nervous information from the sensory receptors is directed towards subcortical and cortical structures, allowing the control of the postural tonic system through a certain number of reflexes that are involuntary. Postural orthostatic stability of the skull on the cervical spine is an important factor in the diagnosis of dysfunctional craniomandibular disorders, both in children and adults. The objective of this work is to measure the implication that a postural alteration has in the origin of muscular hyperactivity, being able to vary the normal anatomical relationship between the head, the neck, and the shoulder girdle, frequently generating an important cause of pain and craniomandibular dysfunction. Through an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of the different views of normal posture, it will be determined through a clinical evaluation if the patients present some type of pathology or postural disorder.Facultad de Odontologí
