THE SPIRIT OF FEMINISM REFLECTED IN THE MAIN CHARACTER OF MONA LISA SMILE MOVIE: A STUDY OF FEMINISM IN A PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY
Film merupakan karya sastra audio-visual yang akhir-akhir ini menyita banyak minat masyarakat. Hal ini dikarenakan film bukan hanya berfungsi sebagai sarana hiburan namun juga merupakan refleksi dan inspirasi kehidupan masyarakat yang sarat akan nilai-nilai sosial dan moral sehingga dapat dikaji lebih dalam.
Mona Lisa Smile merupakan salah satu film yang menyajikan cerita mengenai ideologi feminisme dimana pandangan tersebut sangat bertentangan dengan aturan-aturan sebuah lingkungan masyarakat akademis yang cenderung patriarki. Dalam hal ini penulis ingin mengkaji lebih dalam mengenai pandangan feminis Katherine Watson, tokoh utama dalam film tersebut dan usahanya mengubah pandangan patriarki masyarakat Wellesley yang terlalu memposisikan pria sebagai âyang berkehendakâ dan memandang wanita sebagai umat yang sudah ditakdirkan untuk mengisi sebuah peran sebagai istri dan ibu dalam hidup mereka.
Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan untuk menganalisis film tersebut adalah metode penelitian pustaka dimana penulis menggunakan buku-buku referensi serta sumber dari koran, majalah, artikel maupun internet untuk mendukung kajian analisisnya. Metode eksponensial juga digunakan yakni untuk menganalisis aspek-aspek naratif seperti latar, karakter dan plot; aspek sinematik seperti penggunaan kamera dan mise-en-scenes; serta aspek ekstrinsik yang penulis fokuskan pada analisis patriarki dan feminisme. Akhirnya, kesimpulan akhir dari analisis fim Mona Lisa Smile ini adalah bahwa meski banyak cercaan dan kritik yang dialami Katherine Watson di Wellesley, namun hal itu tidak membuatnya berhenti. Pemikiran feminisnya yang pada dasarnya menuntut masa depan yang lebih baik dari mahasiswa lulusan Wellesley dari pada sekedar menjadi ibu rumah tangga, ternyata dianggap sebagai subuah pendurhakaan terhadap takdir perempuan. Walaupun pada akhir cerita Katherihe Watson memilih untuk meninggalkan Wellesley, namun usahanya tidak sepenuhnya gagal karena salah satu mahasiswanya yang sudah menikah memutuskan utuk mengajukan perceraian atas pengkhianatan suaminya yangâkarena tradisiâharus dipendam,dan diapun akhirnya memutuskan untuk melanjutkan pendidikannya ke Universitas Y
Portfolio Building: The relationship with literacies in studentsâ everyday lives
This article explores some propositions about how studentsâ everyday lives may interact with their success at learning in a large Further Education College in England. Some students, on paper, have all the appropriate entry qualifications, but still struggle to complete their courses. Indeed, some do not complete at all. So, what could be done to help these students achieve success? As a member of a large-scale research project team, I have been investigating the home literacies of further education students. Papen (2005a:14) points out that âit is useful and necessary before any intervention can be planned, to carry out research which identifies learnersâ everyday literacy practicesâ. Of course, there are many other aspects of peopleâs everyday lives that will influence their learning success. However, in this article I want to focus on the possibility of the influence of home literacy practices, by exploring how the reading and writing in the everyday lives of students could be drawn upon and utilized in order to help these students to succeed on their chosen college courses
THE INVESTIGATION OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERSâ CHALLENGES IN DEVELOPING TEACHING MATERIALS
The present study entitled âThe Investigation of Junior High School Teachersâ Challenges in Developing Teaching Materialsâ aimed at knowing how junior high school teachers develop teaching materials as well as investigating the challenges. The study employed qualitative case study design. The data collected through documents analysis and interviews are analyzed qualitatively based on interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994). The findings indicate that the procedure used by the teachers in developing teaching materials is as follows: identifying needs or problems, exploring needs or problems, realizing contextual contents, pedagogical realization, and composing teaching materials based on stipulated lesson plan. Meanwhile, the challenges encountered in developing teaching materials are the lack of conformity between the 2013 curriculum approach and the language learning material, the difficulty in adjusting teaching approach syntax and teaching models syntax, the instability of the studentsâ condition in the classroom, the lack understanding on learning methods, the unavailable teaching media tools and equipment needed, and the lack of time in preparing the assessment. Based on the findings, it can be concluded various procedures of teaching materials development proposed by the experts can be used. Moreover, it is necessary for teachers to overcome the challenges based on expertsâ theories.;---Penelitian dengan judul âThe Investigation of Junior High School Teachersâ Challenges in Developing Teaching Materialsâ ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana guru sekolah menengah pertama mengembangkan bahan ajar dana pa sajakah tantangannya. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui analisis dokumen dan wawancara yang dianalisis secara kualitatif berdasarkan model interaktif dari Miles dan Huberman (1994). Temuan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan langkah-langkah pengembangan bahan ajar yang dilakukan oleh guru, yaitu: mengidentifikasi kebutuhan-kebutuhan atau masalah-masalah, mengeksplorasi kebutuhan-kebutuhan atau masalah-masalah, meralisasikan konten yang kontekstual, merealisasikan elemen-elemen pedagogis, dan menyusun bahan ajar berdasarkan rencana pembelajaran yang telah disusun. Selain itu, tantangan yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam mengembangkan bahan ajar adalah kurang sesuainya pendekatan kurikulum 2013 dan materi pembelajaran bahasa, kesulitan dalam menyesuaikan sintaksis pendekatan pembelajaran dan sintaksis model pembelajaran, tidak stabilnya kondisi siswa di kelas, kurangnya pemahaman tentang metode pembelajaran, alat-alat media pembelajaran yang tidak tersedia, dan kurangnya waktu untuk mempersiapkan penilaian. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa berbagai prosedur pengembangan bahan ajar yang dikemukakan oleh para ahli diterapkan dengan baik. What We (Should) Talk About When We Talk About Fruitfulness
What are the relevant values to the appraisal of research programs? This question remains hotly debated, as philosophers have recently proposed many lists of values potentially relevant to scientific appraisal. Surprisingly, despite being mentioned in many lists, little attention has been paid to fruitfulness. It is unclear how fruitfulness should be explicated, and whether it has any substantial role in scientific appraisal. In this paper, I argue we should explicate fruitfulness as the capacity to develop of research programs. Moreover, I provide a novel strategy to assess and compare the fruitfulness of programs focused on their research questions and heuristics. To illustrate how this strategy would work, I will discuss a case study, namely the adaptationist program in evolutionary psychology
Cutaneus T-Cell Lymphoma in 53 Years Old Woman: Histopathological Features
Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) are clinically heterogeneous T-cell lymphomas that arise in the skin and are characterized by their clinical and pathological features. The pathogenesis of CTCL is not fully understood. The incidence of CTCL increases significantly with age, with a median age at diagnosis at about 55 years of age and a four-fold increase in incidence appreciated in patients over 70. A 53 year old woman presented with complaints of reddish spots and lumps on her left forearm and back which spread to her chest, stomach and legs. On examination, a lump the size of a golf ball was found on the left forearm and back as well as reddish spots that felt itchy and painful. Histopathological examination with HE staining showed proliferation of lymphoid follicles without a germinal center and monotonous cells of small to medium size partially surrounding the tubular glands in the dermis layer. Immunohistochemical examination revealed positive for CD 45 as well as CD 3 and negative for CD 20. A case of CTCL has been reported in a 53-year-old woman. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry are important to diagnose this disease
PERANAN KEGIATAN HABITUASI DALAM UPAYA MEMBENTUK SIKAP NASIONALISME PESERTA DIDIK : Studi Deskriptif di SMK Negeri 2 Bandung
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kekhawatiran akan memudarnya sikap nasionalisme di kalangan peserta didik. Sekolah merupakan wadah dalam membentuk sikap yang baik terutama sikap nasionalisme peserta didik melalui program habituasi di SMKN 2 Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan cara observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dengan cara reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan, dan verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Bentuk kegiatan habituasi dalam membentuk sikap nasionalisme di SMKN 2 Bandung meliputi pelaksanaan upacara bendera, kajian nasionalisme, rebo nyunda, english day, senam, gerakan pungut sampah, dan kegiatan pramuka. (2) Kegiatan habituasi merupakan wahana yang efektif untuk membentuk sikap nasionalisme karena mendapatkan respon positif selama pelaksanaan kegiatan dengan faktor pendukung yaitu tema habituasi harus relevan, peranan Kepala Sekolah dan Guru, peraturan dan sanksi yang diterapkan. (3) Bentuk kegiatan habituasi sudah mendukung untuk membentuk sikap nasionalisme di lingkungan sekolah terutama melalui kegiatan kajian nasionalisme yang dapat membentuk sikap rasa cinta dan bangga terhadap tanah air. (4) Hambatan dalam kegiatan habituasi untuk membentuk sikap nasionalisme yaitu sarana dan prasarana, peranan guru, dan pengetahuan kewarganegaraan dari peserta didik. Solusi untuk mengatasi hambatan tersebut adalah melengkapi sarana dan prasarana, meningkatkan pengetahuan kewarganegaraan, membuat inovasi mengenai tema kegiatan habituasi, dan meningkatkan kerjasama pihak sekolah dalam mengawasi kegiatan habituasi.;---The background of this research is the worrying of the faded nationalism among the students. School is medium to establish a good manner especially student's nationalism through habituation program in SMKN 2 Bandung. This research uses qualitative approach and descriptive method. The data is derived by an observation, interview, and document study. Furthermore, the data is analyzed through the data reduction, data presentation, conclusion, and data verification. The results show (1) Habituation activity in establishing nationalism in SMKN 2 Bandung involves the flag ceremony, study of nationalism, rebo nyunda, english day, gymnastic, garbage collection, and scout activity; (2) Habituation is an effective activity to establish nationalism since it gets positive response during the activity with other supporting factors such as a relevant habituation theme, principal and teacher role, regulation and penalty applied; (3) Habituation activity has been supporting to establish nationalism in the school environment especially through the nationalism study that is able to form the sense of love and proud to the homeland; (4) The obstacles in habituation activity as a way to establish nationalism are facilities and infrastructure, the teacher role, and the knowledge of civic of the student. The solution to solve those obstacles are by completing the facilities and infrastructures, increasing the civic knowledge, creating an innovation about the theme of habitiation activity, and enhancing collaboration of the school in supervising the habituation activity

Some preliminary notes on Challow, a Tibeto-Burman language from Manipur, India
This contribution introduces Challow, a previously unreported and undescribed Tibeto-Burman language spoken in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, North-East India. It includes preliminary sociolinguistic, phonological, and lexical information, compared with data from other languages of the region. The study also offers a 100-items Swadesh wordlist of Challow lexical entries. At first glance, Challow reveals interesting properties, such as the presence of an original p(ÉÌ)-prefix so far unattested in the languages of the area, and typologically rare phonological processes

Comparative constructions in Suansu and the languages of northeastern India
This paper provides a first description of comparative constructions in Suansu, an unreported Tibeto-Burman language spoken in northeastern India, and frames the characteristics of Suansu comparative constructions from a typological perspective (following Stassenâs 1985 classification). To this purpose, comparative constructions from a sample of 25 Tibeto-Burman languages of the area are collected in an ad-hoc designed database and typologically discussed. Results reveal the presence of two main types that cluster geographically in the region, as well as high internal variation with respect to the subtypes. Based on the classification, Suansu is assigned to the Exceed comparative type, the only representative of this type in the sample
