    Zusammenfassung: Hintergrund: Im Jahre 2000 veröffentlichte der InterdisziplinĂ€re Arbeitskreis fĂŒr Mund- und Gesichtsschmerzen in der Deutschen Gesellschaft zum Studium des Schmerzes Empfehlungen zur Diagnostik und Klassifikation von Patienten mit Schmerzen im Bereich der Kaumuskulatur und/oder Kiefergelenke. Ziele der vorliegenden Publikation sind eine Bestandsaufnahme und Aktualisierung der damals gemachten VorschlĂ€ge. Ergebnisse: Sichtung und Bewertung der nach Veröffentlichung der Empfehlungen erschienenen Fachliteratur (bis Dezember 2005) zeigen, dass sich das zweiachsige Stufenkonzept zur Erfassung somatischer und psychosozialer Parameter orofazialer Schmerzen bewĂ€hrt hat. Einzelne Aspekte der Empfehlungen wurden in Form wissenschaftlicher Belege weiter konkretisiert. Schlussfolgerungen: Die vorgeschlagenen Empfehlungen spiegeln die aktuellen Entwicklungen in der Schmerzmedizin wider.     Zusammenfassung: Kaumuskelschmerzen sind nach Zahnschmerzen die hĂ€ufigsten Schmerzen in der Kiefer-Gesichts-Region. Nach einer Zusammenfassung der vom InterdisziplinĂ€ren Arbeitskreis fĂŒr Mund- und Gesichtsschmerzen der Deutschen Schmerzgesellschaft im Jahre 2007 veröffentlichten Therapieempfehlungen wird anhand einer Literaturrecherche der Kenntnisstand von Ätiologie, Diagnostik und therapeutischen Möglichkeiten aktualisiert. Es erfolgte eine systematische Literatursuche in PubMed, der Cochrane Library und der Verlagsdatenbank der Deutschen ZahnĂ€rztlichen Zeitschrift. Die Ergebnisse bestĂ€tigen unsere frĂŒheren Empfehlungen, dass bei der ĂŒberwiegenden Zahl der Patienten mit nichtinvasiven, reversiblen Maßnahmen Schmerzlinderung bzw. Schmerzfreiheit erreicht werden kann. Kurz- und Langzeitstudien haben weitere Belege dafĂŒr geliefert, dass verschiedene Behandlungsverfahren vergleichbar wirksam sind. Bei chronischen VerlĂ€ufen ist neben der biomedizinischen Standardtherapie eine schmerzpsychologische Betreuung obligat. Als empfehlenswert wurden AufklĂ€rung, Okklusionsschienen, physiotherapeutische Selbstbehandlung und Akupunktur, als eingeschrĂ€nkt empfehlenswert physikalische Therapie, Pharmakotherapie und psychologische Schmerztherapie beurteil

    Vorschlag einer Klassifikation der Odontalgien

    Zusammenfassung: Hintergrund: Die PrĂ€valenz von Zahnschmerzen in der Bevölkerung ist beachtlich. Bislang publizierte Klassifikationen der Odontalgien erscheinen jedoch fĂŒr klinische Belange nicht ausreichend strukturiert. Zudem finden nicht alle bekannten Zahnschmerzformen BerĂŒcksichtigung. Ziel dieser Abhandlung ist die Vorstellung einer verfeinerten und aktuellem Wissen genĂŒgenden Einteilung der Odontalgien und die Zusammenfassung ihrer jeweiligen Merkmale zum Zweck einer raschen Diagnosestellung. Ergebnisse: Die erarbeitete Klassifikation unterscheidet 7Schmerzformen: 1."Dentin-Schmerz" (ausgehend vom Pulpagewebe), 2."Pulpa-Schmerz" (ausgehend vom Pulpagewebe), 3.parodontaler Schmerz, 4.alveolĂ€r-ossĂ€rer Schmerz, 5.atypische Odontalgie, 6.in die ZĂ€hne ĂŒbertragener (heterotoper) Schmerz, 7.Zahnschmerz in Zusammenhang mit primĂ€r psychosozialen Faktoren. Schlussfolgerungen: Die vorgeschlagene Klassifikation erscheint geeignet, die verschiedenen Formen der Odontalgien differenzierter darzustellen, als dies mit den bisherigen Einteilungen der Fall war. Ihre Brauchbarkeit bzw. Überlegenheit gegenĂŒber anderen Klassifikationen wird sich im klinischen Alltag erweisen mĂŒsse

    Signal acquisition and analysis of ambulatory electromyographic recordings for the assessment of sleep bruxism : A scoping review

    Background Ambulatory electromyographic (EMG) devices are increasingly being used in sleep bruxism studies. EMG signal acquisition, analysis and scoring methods vary between studies. This may impact comparability of studies and the assessment of sleep bruxism in patients. Objectives (a) To provide an overview of EMG signal acquisition and analysis methods of recordings from limited-channel ambulatory EMG devices for the assessment of sleep bruxism; and (b) to provide an overview of outcome measures used in sleep bruxism literature utilising such devices. Method A scoping review of the literature was performed. Online databases PubMed and Semantics Scholar were searched for studies published in English until 7 October 2020. Data on five categories were extracted: recording hardware, recording logistics, signal acquisition, signal analysis and sleep bruxism outcomes. Results Seventy-eight studies were included, published between 1977 and 2020. Recording hardware was generally well described. Reports of participant instructions in device handling and of dealing with failed recordings were often lacking. Basic elements of signal acquisition, for example amplifications factors, impedance and bandpass settings, and signal analysis, for example rectification, signal processing and additional filtering, were underreported. Extensive variability was found for thresholds used to characterise sleep bruxism events. Sleep bruxism outcomes varied, but typically represented frequency, duration and/or intensity of masticatory muscle activity (MMA). Conclusion Adequate and standardised reporting of recording procedures is highly recommended. In future studies utilising ambulatory EMG devices, the focus may need to shift from the concept of scoring sleep bruxism events to that of scoring the whole spectrum of MMA.Peer reviewe

    Magnetic barrier induced conductance fluctuations in quantum wires

    Quasi-ballistic semiconductor quantum wires are exposed to localized perpendicular magnetic fields, also known as magnetic barriers. Pronounced, reproducible conductance fluctuations as a function of the magnetic barrier amplitude are observed. The fluctuations are strongly temperature dependent and remain visible up to temperatures of about 10 K. Simulations based on recursive Green functions suggest that the conductance fluctuations originate from parametric interferences of the electronic wave functions which experience scattering between the magnetic barrier and the electrostatic potential landscape.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Manipulating the Tomonaga-Luttinger exponent by electric field modulation

    We establish a theoretical framework for artificial control of the power-law singularities in Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid states. The exponent governing the power-law behaviors is found to increase significantly with an increase in the amplitude of the periodic electric field modulation applied externally to the system. This field-induced shift in the exponent indicates the tunability of the transport properties of quasi-one-dimensional electron systems.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure

    A dual-core NMR system for field-cycling singlet assisted diffusion NMR

    Long-lived singlet spin order offers the possibility to extend the spin memory by more than an order of magnitude. This enhancement can be used, among other applications, to assist NMR diffusion experiments in porous media where the extended lifetime of singlet spin order can be used to gain information about structural features of the medium as well as the dynamics of the imbibed phase. Other than offering the possibility to explore longer diffusion times of the order of many minutes that, for example, gives unprecedented access to tortuosity in structures with interconnected pores, singlet order has the important advantage to be immune to the internal field gradients generated by magnetic susceptibility inhomogeneities. These inhomogeneities, however, are responsible for very short T2 decay constants in high magnetic field and this precludes access to the singlet order in the first instance. To overcome this difficulty and take advantage of singlet order in diffusion experiments in porous media, we have here developed a dual-core system with radiofrequency and 3-axis pulsed field gradients facilities in low magnetic field, for preparation and manipulation of singlet order and a probe, in high magnetic field, for polarisation and detection. The system operates in field-cycling and can be used for a variety of NMR experiments including diffusion tensor imaging (both singlet assisted and not).     Cultural and Media Identity Among Latvian Migrants in Germany

    This chapter explores how transnational media and culture impacts on the identity formation of recent Latvian migrants in Germany. In the context of the EU, Germany opened its labour market to the new EU countries rather late, when compared to other ‘old’ EU countries. This has had an effect on the composition of the group of Latvian migrants going to Germany, and their identities. In the light of this, this chapter examines how Latvian migrants in Germany feel and experience their belonging to Latvia and its culture. It analyses the social and communicative practices crucial for the development of belonging, including the rootedness in the country where they live and the cultural references that are important for them. The evidence for the analysis in this chapter comes from in-depth interviews, open media diaries and network maps of Latvian migrants in Germany. The chapter situates the description of evidence in the framework of cultural identity concepts and discusses the role of culture and media in the process of building migrant identity. The chapter argues that culture is shaping the transnational self-perception of Latvian migrants in Germany – as it provides collective narratives of imagined common frames of references, and confirms feelings of belonging and distinction

    Photoemission Spectroscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy Investigation of Vapor Phase Co-Deposited Silver/Poly(3-hexylthiophene) Composites

    Nanocomposite matrices of silver/poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) were prepared in ultrahigh vacuum through vapor-phase co-deposition. Change in microstructure, chemical nature and electronic properties with increasing filler (Ag) content were investigated using in-situ XPS and UPS, and ambient AFM. At least two chemical binding states occur between Ag nanoparticles and sulfur in P3HT at the immediate contact layer but no evidence of interaction between Ag and carbon (in P3HT) was found. AFM images reveal a change in Ag nanoparticles size with concentration which modifies the microstructure and the average roughness of the surface. Under co-deposition, P3HT largely retains its conjugated structures, which is evidenced by the similar XPS and UPS spectra to those of P3HT films deposited on other substrates. We demonstrate here that the magnitude of the barrier height for hole injection and the position of the highest occupied band edge (HOB) with respect to the Fermi level of Ag can be controlled and changed by adjusting the metal (Ag) content in the composite. Furthermore, UPS reveals distinct features related to the C 2p (Sigma states) in the 5-12 eV regions, indicating the presence of ordered P3HT which is different from solution processed films.Comment: Scudier and Wei provided equal contributio
