From initial teacher training to the teaching of social knowledge of elementary beginnings teachers: a relationship to build
The article raises the discussion on the initial training of generalist teachers and its relationship with the teaching practices of the social sciences, deployed by novice teachers in primary education. This discussion is based on the results of an investigation in which two cases are analyzed that correspond to beginning teachers working with Colombian public schools. The existing relationships between the purposes that guide the training in didactics of the social sciences of the university program taken by the teachers and the teaching practices of social knowledge that they develop with primary school students are interpreted. The results show divergences between the purposes proposed by the university and those expressed by the professors, with which they are evident in their practices. An initial teacher training is identified that privileges the pedagogical over the disciplinary, emphasizes the official curriculum based on competency standards, which instrumentalizes teaching through projects and didactic units far from the real context of the students. These findings lead to raise again the need to move towards critical approaches in the initial teacher training, committed to education for democracy and social transformation, in which the knowledge of the discipline to be taught and its didactics is taken into account specific; that they are able to reflect, understand and make decisions about why and for what this knowledge is taught and learned in primary education.peerReviewe
Polyphenolic Profile and Antioxidant Activity of Leaf Purified Hydroalcoholic Extracts from Seven Mexican Persea americana Cultivars
Persea americana (avocado) is a fruit consumed worldwide; however, since avocado leaves are apparently a natural ingredient that can be used as a traditional medicine, they can be a potential source of bioactive compounds. This study aimed to analyze the antioxidant activity of seven Mexican avocado leaf extracts by DPPH•, ABTS•+, and lipid peroxidation (LPO), and to identify the compoundprofilebyliquidchromatographycoupledtomassspectrometry/electronsprayionization. The highest free radical-scavenging activity was observed for Platano Delgado and Criollo 6 avocado cultivars havin IC50 values of 271.86 ± 13.69 and 269.56 ± 6.53 for DPPH• and ABTS•+ radicals, respectively, while the best result for lipid oxidation inhibition was registered in Criollo 6 cultivar extract. Inthisstudyfortyonecompoundsweredetectedinavocadoleavesofthethesevencultivars analyzed, and of these compounds, eighteen phenolics were identified for first time in such plant material. The present study demonstrated that Mexican cultivars of Persea americana possess diverse polyphenolic compounds with strong antioxidant activity, which might be useful in the food and pharmaceutical industries
The vertiginous advance of technology-mediated science has had an impact in one way or another on the different sectors that frame all human activity. Research in the world describes how technology has produced important changes in the conception of teaching and learning processes. Various investigations in both Latin America and Peru have shown that the implementation of resources based on technologies is effective in the learning process. The main purpose of the study was to describe the influence of the Virtual Classroom of Social Sciences (AVCCSS) program on the academic performance of students in regular basic education. The program was based on the use of the virtual classroom developed on the Canvas platform, with the b-learning modality, it was based on the theory of constructivism, a potential complement for the classroom. We worked from the perspective of the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), mediated by Learning and Knowledge Technologies (TAC). The study is part of the positivist paradigm, quantitative approach of explanatory level, experimental design, pre-experimental subtype. The results show that the AVCCSS program and the use of the virtual classroom had a positive and significant influence on the students' academic performance. The Latin American experience of allografting patients with severe aplastic anaemia: real-world data on the impact of stem cell source and ATG administration in HLA-identical sibling transplants
We studied 298 patients with severe aplastic anaemia (SAA) allografted in four Latin American countries. The source of cells
was bone marrow (BM) in 94 patients and PBSCs in 204 patients. Engraftment failed in 8.1% of recipients with no difference
between BM and PBSCs (P = 0.08). Incidence of acute GvHD (aGvHD) for BM and PBSCs was 30% vs 32% (P = 0.18), and for grades
III–IV was 2.6% vs 11.6% (P = 0.01). Chronic GvHD (cGvHD) between BM and PBSCs was 37% vs 59% (P = 0.002) and extensive 5% vs
23.6% (P = 0.01). OS was 74% vs 76% for BM vs PBSCs (P = 0.95). Event-free survival was superior in patients conditioned with
anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG)-based regimens compared with other regimens (79% vs 61%, P = 0.001) as excessive secondary graft
failure was seen with other regimens (10% vs 26%, P = 0.005) respectively. In multivariate analysis, aGvHD II–IV (hazard ratio (HR)
2.50, confidence interval (CI) 1.1–5.6, P = 0.02) and aGvHD III–IV (HR 8.3 CI 3.4–20.2, Po0.001) proved to be independent negative
predictors of survival. In conclusion, BM as a source of cells and ATG-based regimens should be standard because of higher GvHD
incidence with PBSCs, although the latter combining with ATG in the conditioning regimen could be an option in selected high-risk

The genetic ancestry of American Creole cattle inferred from uniparental and autosomal genetic markers
Cattle imported from the Iberian Peninsula spread throughout America in the early years of discovery and colonization to originate Creole breeds, which adapted to a wide diversity of environments and later received influences from other origins, including zebu cattle in more recent years. We analyzed uniparental genetic markers and autosomal microsatellites in DNA samples from 114 cattle breeds distributed worldwide, including 40 Creole breeds representing the whole American continent, and samples from the Iberian Peninsula, British islands, Continental Europe, Africa and American zebu. We show that Creole breeds differ considerably from each other, and most have their own identity or group with others from neighboring regions. Results with mtDNA indicate that T1c-lineages are rare in Iberia but common in Africa and are well represented in Creoles from Brazil and Colombia, lending support to a direct African influence on Creoles. This is reinforced by the sharing of a unique Y-haplotype between cattle from Mozambique and Creoles from Argentina. Autosomal microsatellites indicate that Creoles occupy an intermediate position between African and European breeds, and some Creoles show a clear Iberian signature. Our results confirm the mixed ancestry of American Creole cattle and the role that African cattle have played in their development
