    Memristors using solution-based IGZO nanoparticles

    Get PDF
Solution-based indium-gallium-zinc oldde (IGZO) nanoparticles deposited by spin coating have been investigated as a resistive switching layer in metal-insulator-metal structures for nonvolatile memory applications. Optimized devices show a bipolar resistive switching behavior, low programming voltages of +/- 1 V, on/off ratios higher than 10, high endurance, and a retention time of up to 104 s. The better performing devices were achieved with annealing temperatures of 200 degrees C and using asymmetric electrode materials of titanium and silver. The physics behind the improved switching properties of the devices is discussed in terms of the oxygen deficiency of IGZO. Temperature analysis of the conductance states revealed a nonmetallic filamentary conduction. The presented devices are potential candidates for the integration of memory functionality into low-cost System-on-Panel technology.National Funds through FCT - Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology [UID/CTM/50025/2013, SFRH/BDP/99136/2013]; FEDER [POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007688]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This study aims to reflect about a possible link between the archival knowledge and complex thinking. Does the knowledge structure and the characteristics of the constant search for the origin of human knowledge. Identifies, based on the ideas of Malheiro Armando da Silva, some epistemological assumptions and paradigms of Archival. Discusses, based on the complexity paradigm, the mode of organization of thought that underlies the system to know Archivology. We conclude that the need for epistemological reflection of knowledge production in Archivology puts new propositions and opens possibilities for reducing prospects of escape that trap the means of knowledge innovation in this field of study, which requires new thinking designs for the area, and, to both, consider the precepts of complex thought

Zoonotic spillover: understanding basic aspects for better prevention

    Get PDF
The transmission of pathogens from wild animals to humans is called “zoonotic spillover”. Most human infectious diseases (60-75%) are derived from pathogens that originally circulated in non-human animal species. This demonstrates that spillover has a fundamental role in the emergence of new human infectious diseases. Understanding the factors that facilitate the transmission of pathogens from wild animals to humans is essential to establish strategies focused on the reduction of the frequency of spillover events. In this context, this article describes the basic aspects of zoonotic spillover and the main factors involved in spillover events, considering the role of the inter-species interactions, phylogenetic distance between host species, environmental drivers, and specific characteristics of the pathogens, animals, and humans. As an example, the factors involved in the emergence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic are discussed, indicating what can be learned from this public health emergency, and what can be applied to the Brazilian scenario. Finally, this article discusses actions to prevent or reduce the frequency of zoonotic spillover events

Teaching of Ordinary Differential Equations Using the Assumptions of the PBL Method

Mathematics is of fundamental importance to any natural sciences program (because it provides analytical and approximate results that can be simulated and modeled) and perhaps to other areas of human knowledge. Ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are especially of fundamental importance to engineering programs because the modeling of all phenomena of interest for these programs involves ODE solutions; at the same time, students experience difficulties when learning ODEs and about their applications to real physical scenarios. In this study, the problem-based learning method was used to study a group of mechanical engineering students at theSENAICIMATECUniversityCenter. The study analyzes the effectiveness of ODE instruction given through this program using the specified methodology. To consolidate the study, Conceptual Field Theory is used together with an evaluation of the results to observe student behaviors and attitudes in relation to actions arising from the method. At the end of the study, a questionnaire was completed by the students, with which they evaluated the effectiveness of the teaching methodology employed
