Language Learning Strategies Used by EFL Fluent Speakers: A Case in Indonesian Context
This study reported what language learning strategies are used by EFL fluent speakers in EFL speaking class and to reveal the fluent speakers’ awareness of the benefits of the language learning strategies. This research was conducted on six students in EFL Speaking Class of English Education Department of IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro, Indonesia, who were categorized as EFL fluent speakers. The research belongs to a case study. The data for this research were taken from in-depth interviews, observation, filling up questionnaires, and document analysis. The results of this study show that 1) in EFL sepaking class, the 1st student used cognitive, compensation, and social strategies, the 2nd student used cognitive and affective strategies, the 3rd student used cognitive, meta-cognitive and social strategies, the 4th student used meta-cognitive and social strategies, the 5th student used cognitive and affective strategies, and the 6th student used meta-cognitive and social strategies. 2) The students are strongly aware of the learning strategies’ benefits to improve their English skills. From the findings, it can be concluded that learning strategies are very useful and helpful in learning English as a foreign language. Learning strategies also bring the students reach the good achievement in improving their speaking skill
A COLLABORATIVE WRITING TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SKILL IN WRITING ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY (A Classroom Action Research at the Fourth Semeseter Students of English Education Department of IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro in the Academic Year of 2013/2014
Abstract: This research investigates whether Collaborative Writing Technique can improve students’ skill in
writing argumentative essay and how class situation is when Collaborative Writing Technique is implemented.
This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is conducted at the fourth semester students of English
Education Department of IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro in the academic year of 2013/2014. This Classoom Action
Research is done in three cycles. Each cycle consists of four steps: Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting.
The qualitative data are collected through observation and interview. The quantitative data are collected through
test. The research findings reveal that the implementation of Collaborative Writing Technique can improve
students’ skill in writing argumentative essay and build effective teaching and learning which can be seen from:
automaticity, meaningful learning, the anticipation of reward, intrinsic motivation, strategic investment,
language ego, self-confidence, risk-taking, the language culture connection, the native language effect,
interlanguage, and communicative competence. Derived from the findings, it can be concluded that the
implementation of Collaborative Writing Technique can improve students’ skill in writing argumentative essay
and class situation. Therefore, it is recommended for the lecturers to employ Collaborative Writing Technique as
it can improve students’ writing skill as well as class situation.

ENHANCING STUDENTS ACADEMIC WRITING SKILL BY USING RESEARCH PAPER WRITING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk menginvestigasi apakah penggunaan Research Paper Writing Instructional Materials dan meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis paper/artikel jurnal penelitian; dan (2) untuk menginvestigasi situasi kelas ketika Research PaperWriting Instructional Materials diterapkan sebagai materi ajar di kelas. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam kategori penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian tindakan ini dilakukan pada mahasiswa semester IV Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro tahun akademik 2014/2015. Penelitian tindakan ini dilakukan dalam 2 siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri atas 4tahapan, yaitu: tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, tahap observasi, dan tahap refleksi. Data yang diperoleh dari penelitian tindakan ini berupa data kualitatif dan data kuantitaif. Data kualitatif diperoleh dengan menggunakan teknik observasi dan interview. Sedangkan data kunatitatif diperoleh dengan cara tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan ResearchPaper Writing Instructional Materials dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis paper dan juga meningkatkan motivasi mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran menulis akademis. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Research Paper Writing Instructional Materials dapat meningkatkan ketrampilan menulis akademis mahasiswa dan juga situasi kelas
STUDENTS’ COMMON ERRORS IN TRANSLATING PHRASAL VERBS: A CASE OF STUDENTS IN ISLAMIC EDUCATION PROGRAM
The objectives of this study were to determine (1) the types of errors students made when translating phrasal verbs, (2) the frequency with which students made errors when translating phrasal verbs, and (3) the reasons of students' errors when translating phrasal verbs. The study used a qualitative case study approach and was conducted with second-semester students enrolled in the Islamic Education Program at a State Institute for Islamic Studies (Institut Agama Islam Negeri) in Central Java, Indonesia. The data sources were documents generated as a consequence of the exam and interview with the students. The author gathered data by doing an error analysis of students' test scores as provided by their lecturer. The obtained data were examined in steps that included collecting data, detecting mistakes, categorizing errors according to their categories, summarizing the errors for each category, and assessing the students' errors. Additionally, to ascertain the causes of students' mistakes, the researcher performed an interview with students who were purposefully chosen. According to the researcher's findings, students made two sorts of errors while translating phrasal verbs: errors in propositional meaning, which are incorrect alternate meanings for words, and errors in expressive meaning, which are incorrect translations of idiomatic expressions. Meanwhile, the interview findings indicated that the reasons for students' errors include a lack of understanding of what a phrasal verb is, a dislike for English, a lack of vocabularies, and a tendency to be lazy about learning more about English because they believe it is difficult.Â
PENERAPAN PERATURAN PEMERINTAH NOMOR 11 TAHUN 2010 TENTANG PENERTIBAN DAN PENDAYAGUNAAN TANAH TERLANTAR
 Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 11 Tahun 2010 tentang Penertiban dan Pendayagunaan Tanah Terlantar di Kabupaten Sidoarjo, serta faktor apa saja yang menjadi kendala dan upaya dalam menerapkan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 11 Tahun 2010 di Kabupaten Sidoarjo. Penerapan yang didapat dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan: a) inventaris tanah yang terindikasi tanah terlantar melalui informasi yang diperoleh dari hasil pemantauan lapangan oleh Kantor Wilayah BPN, Kantor Pertanahan, dan laporan tertulis dari masyakat, b) Tahap identifikasi dan penelitian yang dilaksanakan oleh Panitia C yang terdiri dari Kantor Wilayah BPN, Kantor Pertanahan, Pemerintah Daerah, dan instansi yang berkaitan dengan peruntukan tanah yang bersankutan, c) Tahap peringatan, d) Tahap penetapan tanah terlantar, e) Tahap pendayagunaan tanah terlantar. Faktor yang menjadi kendala adalah: a) kondisi lapangan yang kurang mendukung, b) Jenis hak tanah yang diindikasi tanah terlantar yang sering ditemui adalah Hak Guna Bangunan. Upaya yang dilakukan adalah: a) meminta perkembangan kemajuan pembangunan, dan b) melaksanakan sosialisasi ke Pejabat Pembuat Akta Tanah (PPAT).Kata Kunci: penerapan, penertiban, pendayagunaan, tanah terlantarThis research aims to determine how the application of government regulation No. 11 year 2010 on regulating and utilization of displaced land in Sidoarjo district, as well as any factors that become constraints and efforts in implementing government regulation No. 11 year 2010 in Sidoarjo district. The application gained in this study is by: a) Land inventory indicated in displaced land through information obtained from the results of field monitoring by the regional office of BPN, land Office, and written reports of the public, b) The phase of identification and research conducted by the committee consisting of the regional office of BPN, land Office, local government, and agencies related to the allocation of land that has been , c) Warning phase, d) Stage of abandoned land, e) Phase of displaced land utilization. Nalar Integrasi Fikih dan Psikologi Keluarga dalam Pandangan Hakim Agama Jawa Timur Tentang Hak Asuh Anak Pasangan Murtad
One of the causes of divorce which was decided by a Religious Court judge was because of the apostasy of one of the spouses. Divorce due to apostasy leaves problems in parenting. To whom the child custody will be given must be considered by the judge. This research is empirical research (field study) with fiqh and family psychology approach to get an understanding of the basic considerations of judges in establishing child custody in the case of an apostate partner. Through interviews and documentation, the study found, that the consideration of judges based on three things: first, normative basis, which is based on the consideration of Constitution No. 1 of 1974, Compilation of Islamic Law, Constitution No. 7 of 1989 Jo. Constitution Number 30 of 2006 concerning Childcare, and Number 23 of 2002, Supreme Court jurisprudence Number 210 / K / AG / 1990. Second, fiqh basis, which refers to the requirements of the Hadhanah which are in line with fiqh and the provisions of the Hadhanah based on Syafii's Madzab. Third, the psychological basis, which considers all psychological problems related to children. By using this integrative analysis the judge considers that the requirements for Muslims to care for children are in line with psychological values, that the family must provide Islamic education to shape the child's mental spirit
Teaching Writing of Argumentative Essay Using Collaborative Writing Technique Viewed from Students’ Creativity: an Experimental
The use of small group and pair work in classrooms, particularly in second language (L2) classrooms, rests onstrong theoretical and pedagogical bases. This research was aimed at finding out: (1) whether or notCollaborative Writing Technique is more effective than Direct Instruction in teaching writing ofargumentative essay; (2) whether the students who have high creativity have better writing ability than thosewho have low creativity; and (3) whether there is an interaction between teaching techniques and creativity in teaching writing. This experimental research was carried out in IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro in the academic year of 2014/2015 from March 2015 to June 2015. The population was the fourth semester students of English Education Department in the academic year of 2014/2015, and the number of population was 126 students who were divided into three classes. The samples, which were selected by using cluster random sampling, were IIB as the experimental group and IIA as the control group. Each group consists of 42 students. Theexperimental group was treated by using Collaborative Writing Technique, while the control group wastreated by using Direct Instruction. The data analysis shows the following findings: (1) Collaborative WritingTechnique is more effective than Direct Instruction in teaching writing; (2) students with high creativity havebetter writing ability than those having low creativity; and (3) there is an interaction between teachingtechniques and creativity in teaching writing
ELT Research Papers as Authentic Materials in Teaching Research-Based Article Writing: A Case in Indonesian Context
There are strong shreds of evidence that the choice of instructional materials has large effects on students’ achievement. This study was to assess the efficacy of using ELT research papers as authentic materials in teaching research-based article writing. This study was aimed at revealing whether or not there is a significant difference in students’ writing skill in terms of ELT research paper writing between the students who were taught by using ELT research papers as authentic materials and those who were taught by using textbook materials provided by the faculty. This study belongs to a quasi-experimental study with an experimental and control group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study was 75 students from the fourth semester of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro, East Java, Indonesia. The sample was selected through cluster random sampling and consisted of 50 students that were divided into two groups. The instrument used to collect the data was a writing test. Consequently, normality and homogeneity of the data were tested. A t-test was used to compare the mean of the two groups. The hypothesis was designed and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there is a significant difference in students’ academic writing skill between the students who were taught by using the ELT research papers as authentic materials and those who were taught by using textbook materials. The t-test revealed that t-value is higher than t-table (6.07>2.01). Therefore it is concluded that the authentic instructional materials could significantly improve students’ academic writing skill
INTERFERENCE IN LEARNING ENGLISH: GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN ENGLISH ESSAY WRITING AMONG SEVENTH GRADERS OF MTs DARUL ULUM, SUKOSEWU, BOJONEGORO, EAST JAVA
The purpose of this research was to present an analysis of interference effect, a factor that plays an important role in inhibiting the acquisition of English among seventh grade students of MTs Darul Ulum, Sukosewu, Bojonegoro, East Java. The data substantiating the discussion throughout this article came from an empirical study of errors in essays written by seventh grade students of MTs Darul Ulum in the academic year of 2015/2016. The participants were all students in 7A class consisting of 30 students. The participants were chosen by cluster random sampling. The findings of the study show that the learners are still having difficulty in using correct English grammar in their writings. The three most frequent errors are: 1) the use of articles, 2) subject-verb agreement, and 3) copula ‘be’
