The influence of online posting dates on the bibliometric indicators of scientific articles

This article analyses the difference in timing between the online availability of articles and their corresponding print publication and how it affects two bibliometric indicators: Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and Immediacy Index. This research examined 18,526 articles, the complete collection of articles and reviews published by a set of 61 journals on Urology and Nephrology in 2013 and 2014. The findings suggest that Advance Online Publication (AOP) accelerates the citation of articles and affects the JIF and Immediacy Index values. Regarding the JIF values, the comparison between journals with or without AOP showed statistically significant differences (P=0.001, Mann-Whitney U test). The Spearman's correlation between the JIF and the median online-to-print publication delay was not statistically significant. As to the Immediacy Index, a significant Spearman's correlation (rs=0.280, P=0.029) was found regarding the median online-to-print publication delays for journals published in 2014, although no statistically significant correlation was found for those published in 2013. Most journals examined (n=52 out of 61) published their articles in AOP. The analysis also showed different publisher practices: eight journals did not include the online posting dates in the full-text and nine journals published articles showing two different online posting dates--the date provided on the journal website and another provided by Elsevier's Science Direct. These practices suggest the need for transparency and standardization of the AOP dates of scientific articles for calculating bibliometric indicators for journals

Protection by Neuroglobin Expression in Brain Pathologies

    Get PDF
Astrocytes play an important role in physiological, metabolic, and structural functions, and when impaired, they can be involved in various pathologies including Alzheimer, focal ischemic stroke, and traumatic brain injury. These disorders involve an imbalance in the blood flow and nutrients such as glucose and lactate, leading to biochemical and molecular changes that cause neuronal damage, which is followed by loss of cognitive and motor functions. Previous studies have shown that astrocytes are more resilient than neurons during brain insults as a consequence of their more effective antioxidant systems, transporters, and enzymes, which made them less susceptible to excitotoxicity. In addition, astrocytes synthesize and release different protective molecules for neurons, including neuroglobin, a member of the globin family of proteins. After brain injury, neuroglobin expression is induced in astrocytes. Since neuroglobin promotes neuronal survival, its increased expression in astrocytes after brain injury may represent an endogenous neuroprotective mechanism. Here, we review the role of neuroglobin in the central nervous system, its relationship with different pathologies, and the role of different factors that regulate its expression in astrocytes.GB’s work is supported by Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.Peer reviewedPeer Reviewe

Warehouse management model based on lean manufacturing to reduce the incidence of ceramic tiles breakage in the retail sector

    Get PDF
This research analyzed the problem of broken products that negatively affect retail construction finishing companies. For this reason, the study was conducted in a retail company in the mentioned sector. The main problem is broken ceramic tiles found throughout the logistics process. This company has a rate of product breakage of 2.15%, equivalent to 707,704.58 PEN in total cost and costs involved. The leading causes of this problem are poor storage and transportation of products 26.32% and inadequate control and handling of products 27. 03% and poor handling with the forklift 25.97%. A model was formulated under the Lean Manufacturing and warehouse management methodology divided into three stages for the implementation of the tools: "Order and Stability," which consists of the performance of the 5S combined with warehouse management tools, and "Planned Flow," which focuses on the implementation of SLP, and the last phase is called "Make Kaizen Flow" which focuses on the combination of standard work and the Kaizen Philosophy. Finally, through a simulation, it is determined that the application of this model reduces the main problem to 1.65% and allows standardizing activities and improving the order and distribution of the warehouse. This research will be an example for future implementations for companies in the retail sector of construction finishes

Children with acute food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome from Spain and Italy usually tolerate all other food groups.

Acute food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome ('FPIES') is a potentially severe type of non IgE-mediated food allergy affecting mainly infants usually when foods are introduced [1]. Acute FPIES triggered by multiple unrelated foods ('multiple food FPIES') has been reported in up to two thirds of patients, particularly in the USA [2,3]. FPIES reactions are often traumatic experiences for parents and weaning leads to significant anxiety, as there is no test to identify safe new foods. This has led to complex weaning recommendations in children with FPIES in an attempt to support parents [4]. However, evidence suggests that multiple food FPIES is rare in other regions, such as Southern Europe [5,6], which questions the applicability of such weaning advice in this population. Studies including a detailed dietary history in children with FPIES are lacking
