Proceedings 2019, 24(1), 10; https://doi.org/10.3390/IECG2019-06222Geology is, from its foundation, a subject strongly based on field studies. Nonetheless, offsite
studies can frequently play a relevant role in surveying large areas and in preliminary assessments
of specific sites, and they could give important contributions to the planning of onsite works. Diverse
online tools, including topographic and geological maps, satellite images and onsite images (Google
Street View), are freely available and can be integrated into a GIS (Geographic Information System)
environment such as QGIS (A Free and Open Source Geographic Information System licensed under
the GNU General Public License [1]). The potential and limitations of these tools can be discussed in
the context of subjects relating to environmental and engineering geology. The discussion can be
supported by some case studies related to examples of these issues, based on observations of terrains
(including observations of built structures). Diverse perspectives can be considered, such as restraints
to structure development, hazard assessment and hydrological studies, as well as the potential of
sites to be used for the teaching of concepts related to these subjectsThe Lab2PT-Landscapes, Heritage and Territory laboratory-AUR/04509 is supported by the Portuguese FCT—“Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia” (Portuguese funds and where applicable the FEDER co-financing, in the aim of the new partnership agreement PT2020 and COMPETE2020—POCI 010145 FEDER 007528)
On the origins of scaling corrections in ballistic growth models
We study the ballistic deposition and the grain deposition models on
two-dimensional substrates. Using the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) ansatz for
height fluctuations, we show that the main contribution to the intrinsic width,
which causes strong corrections to the scaling, comes from the fluctuations in
the height increments along deposition events. Accounting for this correction
in the scaling analysis, we obtained scaling exponents in excellent agreement
with the KPZ class. We also propose a method to suppress these corrections,
which consists in divide the surface in bins of size and use only
the maximal height inside each bin to do the statistics. Again, scaling
exponents in remarkable agreement with the KPZ class were found. The binning
method allowed the accurate determination of the height distributions of the
ballistic models in both growth and steady state regimes, providing the
universal underlying fluctuations foreseen for KPZ class in 2+1 dimensions. Our
results provide complete and conclusive evidences that the ballistic model
belongs to the KPZ universality class in dimensions. Potential
applications of the methods developed here, in both numerics and experiments,
are discussed.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
no currículo escolar.
pluralidade cultural e étnico-racial no ambiente escolar.
Introduction: This paper is willing to present arguments related to structuring and
formation of school physical education practice in Brazil and how this school practice
seals or not the aspects of cultural and ethno-racial diversity, as well as the right of
equality and the valorization of a positive black identity among the plurals cultural
aspects of our nation. Objective: This paper goals to analyze how Afro-Brazilian and
African cultures are or not included in the school physical education in its history and
nowadays, as well as to facilitate the process of applicability of the 10.639/03 law
which makes teaching African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture mandatory in the
school curriculum. Material and Methods: This exploratory research was done from
bibliographical analysis of academics papers and terms papers accessed in
database of Google Scholar published from 2006 to 2014. Books published from
2004 to 2010 were also used, as well as scientific events history published in 2014.
Literature Review: During its history, the school physical education was used
politically as an instrument of standardization and control individual’s bodies and
actions, strongly interfering in the conception of identity and in the collective’s social
development. The parameters used in what were concerned to bodies’ health, its
development and capacities were based in European eugenics theories invalidating,
thus, the cultural relation between black and indigenous people with their bodies,
movement and their motor and social development. As consequence, it notices the
devaluation and slight of the aspects of health and corporeity experienced in the
Afro-Brazilian cultures and in the yard communities (comunidades de terreiro). In
January 2003 was sanctioned the law 10.639/03 which changes the National
Educational Bases and Guidelines Law (LDB) – law 9.394/96 – making teaching
Afro-Brazilian and African culture and history mandatory, arousing some advances in
the education system in an anti-racist educational perspective, in order to include the
Brazilian cultural diversity and to valorization of black identity and culture. Proposing
to accomplish these new curricular guidelines, this study supports itself in the
capacities of an afrocentric education that glimpses the body practices and the
African and African descendant cosmologies as integral part of the curriculum to be
applied in the practices of school physical education. Conclusions: It is important to
stress to educators that the social responsibility forms citizenship defending the rights
of equality of all people with a view to the ethno-racial and cultural plurality in the
school environment. This paper goals to facilitate this process and clarify regarding to
this responsibility
Storytelling, like every linguistic act, produces symbolic values and propositional
effects by which the behavior and beliefs of the interlocutors operate. Even in the
face of colonial advances in silencing the black protagonism of stories about our
people, we have never lacked these narratives. These narratives have always
been present in the very black experience of existing in the struggle for dignity as
individuals, in the present orality as the greatest instrument of presentation and
construction of knowledge in African-based terreiros, quilombos and in the most
varied expressions of resistance experienced by black people in a society
structured by racism. Take ownership of language that highlights the black
protagonism in our narratives and find proposals that make it possible to deal with
the crossings caused by colonialism and the enslavement of our people, although
there are challenges, that is a choice that is expressed as a political act of
resistance. I formulate the thinking that results in this essay starting from an
experiential historical-critical analysis of my condition as a black Brazilian. I bring
relevant events that were part of my upbringing as an individual, involving aspects
of a Christian fostered to deny blackness, the processes of struggle to release
the bonds of racism, the movement to return to the ancestral cradle and the
recognition of a black identity that is collectivized in the foundation of a Nzo ia
Nkisi or Terreiro de Candomblé Angola. In a collaborative perspective on the
narratives that are produced around, and not on candomblé, I intend to share
how my trajectory and that of my ancestors lead to the foundation of the terreiro
in an expression of resistance to colonial attempts at supremacy and silencing of

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L) and the main leafy vegetable grown in Brazil, with productivity and limited quality, according to the growing seasons, environments and the type of farming adopted. The objective of this work check at different times, what is the best environment for growing lettuce cultivars in the Center-South of the Tocantins state. Three experiments were installed (spring, summer and winter). In every age, were evaluated three lettuce cultivars (Vera, Taina and Rafaela) and three farming environments (Tunnel down on beds protected by mulching, flower beds protected only with mulching beds and no protection). The variables evaluated were: plant weight (g); Stem Length (cm); head diameter (in cm); number of leaves per head; Volume of heads (in cm 3); Productivity (Mg ha-1). Winter is the most appropriate cultivation period for growing lettuce. The low tunnel with mulching is the most recommended cultivation system for growing lettuce in comparison to others. Cultivar Vera was higher than the other for the rated cultivation environments.
