LITERATURA MUNDIAL E ESTUDO DE PAULO COELHO: EFEITOS NO CAMPO E ALÉM DO CAMPO BRASILEIRO

Abstract: The scope of this paper is to discuss some aspects concerning the wide concepts of “world literature" and world literary field as well as their eventual innovative features in the conceptual framework of the Literary Studies. I examine questions related to the different canons at work and the role and consideration of translation, in this case, for the Brazilian Literature. At the same time, I make some considerations regarding the position of Paulo Coelho in the context of academic research compared with his actual impact both inside and outside the literary field (social spaces and the movement or attraction of people towards places) suggesting that it is not accurate to talk about Brazilian literature in the framework of the world literature (in any of its conceivable dimensions) if both the work of Paulo Coelho and the challenges for research on the international projection of Brazilian literature and culture of studying his trajectory are excluded, for biased reasons as the small symbolic credit that taking Coelho as a case study grants for scholars. Keywords: World and Brazilian literature; literary field effects; translation; Paulo Coelho; legitimacies. Resumo: O presente trabalho pretende problematizar alguns aspectos relativos ao conceito amplo de “literatura mundial”, campo literário mundial e o seu eventual caráter de novo quadro conceitual no âmbito do estudo da literatura. Nele, são examinadas questões relativas aos diversos cânones em jogo e ao papel e consideração da tradução, no caso da literatura brasileira. É realizada igualmente uma aproximação concreta à posição de Paulo Coelho no quadro da pesquisa acadêmica, comparada com o seu eventual impacto, tanto no campo como fora do campo literário (em espaços sociais e no movimento ou atração de pessoas a espaços) para formular a sugestão de não ser correto falar da literatura brasileira no quadro da literatura mundial (em qualquer das dimensões que se considerarem) caso se exclua (por razões preconceituosas ou de poucos créditos simbólicos para quem pesquisa, via de regra) a obra de Coelho e dos desafios que a sua trajetória coloca para investigações na literatura e na cultura brasileiras na sua projeção exterior. Palavras-chave: Literatura mundial e brasileira; efeitos do campo literário; tradução, Paulo Coelho, legitimidades

About Literary Systems and National Literatures

In his article About Literary Systems and National Literatures, Elias Torres J. Feijó offers a polysystemic analysis with examples from the Iberian Peninsula. He argues that a community\u27s literature can be understood as a) the gathering of so-called literary activities, which take place in a social space or b) something that identifies certain characteristics of a part or the whole of the members in a given social space. For his analysis, Torres Feijó employs Itamar Even-Zohar\u27s notion of polysystem because it allows us to interpret each system generated by members of a given community and its delimitation, differentiation, and integration mechanisms in supra-systemic relational schemes. In addition, mechanisms can be obtained for the analysis of the fabrication and promotion of formulas which have as their objective systemic sovereignty: proto-systems, sub-systems, and para-systems

Historiar e comparar literatura como meio e análise de comunidades. Espaços literaturizados como exemplo e proposta

O objetivo do presente texto é sugerir e convidar para uma reflexão sobre a historiografia e o comparatismo literários no que diz respeito à sua viabilidade, eficácia e utilidade. E, também, convidar para pensar outras formas de estudar a literatura que possam ser relevantes e práticas e relacionáveis com a sociedade, entendendo a literatura como parte da cultura e dos processos sociais e analisando-a como um meio que permita produzir conhecimento sobre aspetos sociais. Farei uso , neste sentido, e de maneira sintética, de dous casos em que comunidades podem ver-se afetadas por determinados usos do literário (no caso, Cien Años de Soledad, de García Márquez e O Diário de um mago, de Paulo Coelho) através do vínculo entre espaços geo-humanos e geo-culturais e discursos literários; historiar e/ou comparar processos deste tipo pode oferecer uma linha de pesquisa importante para entender (diversos róis) da literatura nas sociedades e deitar luz sobre os modos de pensar, classificar e atuar das comunidades em foco. ******************************************************** Historicizing and comparing literature as a means and analysis of self-assessment communities. Literature spaces as an example and proposal This paper aims to suggest and to invite to reflect on the Literary Historiography and Comparatism in relation to their viability, efficiency and usefulness. I would like to contribute, at the same time, to think about other ways for studying Literature, relevant and practical for society, understanding literature as a part of culture and wither social processes to be analysed as a means for delivering knowledge on social issues. I will bring for this purpose the cases of two different communities affected for specific usages of the literary by the links between geo-cultural and geo-human spaces with literary discourses A Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García Márquez and Paulo Coelho’s The Pilgrimage. To study and compare this kind of processes could contribute to a research line relevant for understanding the different roles of literature in society, and to shed light on the ways the focused communities have to think, classify and act. Estudos da literatura e da cultura no âmbito da língua portuguesa e diplomacia da cultura: carências e possibilidades

Este texto tem o objetivo de discutir e problematizar questões relacionadas às políticas diplomáticas e de unificação entre países de língua portuguesa no que se refere aos aspectos culturais, especialmente aqueles relacionados à língua como elemento comum entre tais países e à literatura. Considerando-se que o mundo lusófono carece de uma política cultural articulada e coesa e de uma prática diplomático-cultural conjunta, propõe-se uma série de mecanismos, estratégias e políticas possíveis para a efetivação dessa articulação e coesão. Apesar de já haver organizações e instrumentos, tais como o Acordo Ortográfico, o Instituto Internacional de Língua Portuguesa, a Associação de Universidades de Língua Portuguesa e outros, muito ainda precisa ser feitopara que se efetive a noção de intersistema, concebida como um conjunto de sistemas que encontram pontos de contato, relacionamento ou presenças, subjetivos e objetivos, na sua produção cultural, suficientes para interpretaresses elementos como singulares em relação a outros sistemas; e bastantes para alicerçar fluxos entre eles de importância relativa.This paper aims to discuss and discuss issues related to diplomatic and political unification of Portuguese-speaking countries in relation to cultural aspects, especially those related to language as a common element among these countries and literature. Considering that the Lusophone world lacks a coordinated and cohesive cultural policy and a joint diplomatic - cultural practice, we propose a number of mechanisms, strategies and possible policy for the realization of this articulation and cohesion. Although there are already organizations and instruments, such as the Orthographic Agreement, the International Portuguese Language Institute, the Association of Portuguese Language Universities and other, much remains to be done to become effective intersystem the notion, conceived as a set of systems finding points of contact, relationship or attendance, subjective and objective in its cultural production, sufficient to interpret these elements as unique as compared to other systems, and sufficient to underpin flows between them in relative importance
