Del estudio de los datos clínicos bioquímicos y de comprobación anátomo-patológica en los que ha sido posible ha llegado a una serie de conclusiones entre ellas: que la gammagráfica hepatica estudiadas y que las pruebas clínicas habituales para la detectación de metastásis hepáticas.- Dada la frecuencia de aparición de metástasis hepáticas en determinados tumores cree la autora que la grammagrafía se debe realizar en ellos sistemáticamente para su correcta clasificación por el sistema tnm

    Powder Particle Size Effects on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mechanically Alloyed ODS Ferritic Steels

    Reduced activation ferritic (RAF) steels are expected to be widely used in challenging nuclear industrial applications under severe thermo-mechanical regimes and intense neutron loads. Therefore, actual research panorama is facing the strengthening strategies necessary to maximize both performance and endurance under these conditions. Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) RAF steels are leader candidates as structural materials in fusion energy reactors thanks to the reinforcement obtained with a fine dispersion of nanosized oxides in their matrix. In this study, the influence of the initial powder particle size and the selected processing route on the final material has been investigated. Two RAF ODS steels coming from atomized pre-alloyed powders with nominal particle powder sizes of 70 and 30 µm and composition Fe-14Cr-2W-0.4Ti-0.3Y2_{2}O3_{3} (wt. %) were manufactured by mechanical alloying. Alloyed powders were compacted by hot isostatic pressing, hot crossed rolled, and annealed at 1273 K. Initial powder particle size differences minimize after milling. Both steels present an almost completely recrystallized material and similar grain sizes. The same type and distributions of secondary phases, Cr-W-rich, Ti-rich, and Y-Ti oxide nanoparticles, have been also characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in both alloy samples. The strengthening effect has been confirmed by tensile and Charpy impact tests. The two alloys present similar strength values with slightly better ductile brittle transition temperature (DBTT) and ductility for the steel produced with the smaller powder size

    Microstructure and tensile properties of ODS ferritic steels mechanically alloyed with Fe2Y

    An oxide dispersion strengthened ODS ferritic steel has been produced by mechanical alloying of Fe–14Cr–2W–0.2Ti (wt.%) prealloyed powder with 0.55 (wt.%) Fe2Y intermetallic particles and consolidated by hot isostatic pressing. The microstructure after thermal treatments confirms the homogeneous precipitation of Y-Ti oxides with nanometric sizes. Tensile properties as a function of the testing temperature from room temperature to 973 K have been measured and the results are discussed with respect to similar ODS ferritic steels fabricated by a powder metallurgy route using Y2O3 powder

    Serum lipid profile among sporadic and familial forms of Parkinson’s disease

    Brain cholesterol metabolism has been described as altered in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. Serum lipid levels have been widely studied in PD with controversial results among different populations and age groups. The present study is aimed at determining if the serum lipid profile could be influenced by the genetic background of PD patients. We included 403 PD patients (342 sporadic PD patients, 30 GBA-associated PD patients, and 31 LRRK2-associated PD patients) and 654 healthy controls (HCs). Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides were measured in peripheral blood. Analysis of covariance adjusting for sex and age (ANCOVA) and post hoc tests were applied to determine the differences within lipid profiles among the groups. Multivariate ANCOVA revealed significant differences among the groups within cholesterol and LDL levels. GBA-associated PD patients had significantly lower levels of total cholesterol and LDL compared to LRRK2-associated PD patients and HCs. The different serum cholesterol levels in GBA-associated PD might be related to diverse pathogenic mechanisms. Our results support the hypothesis of lipid metabolism disruption as one of the main PD pathogenic mechanisms in patients with GBA-associated PD. Eso hace más complicado determinar el momento más adecuado para la toma de muestra, sobre todo en recién nacidos prematuros y/o bajo peso y/o ingresados en unidades neonatales. El objetivo del presente estudio ha sido revisar las normas de toma de muestra de los distintos programas en estas situaciones, a nivel nacional e internacional. Se obtienen los datos a través de páginas web de salud pública, de plataformas de búsqueda o por contacto con los centros. Existe gran disparidad de criterios para la toma de una nueva muestra, incluso dentro de un mismo país. La limitación de información disponible, hizo imposible obtener resultados de muchos países, en particular de África, Asia o Latinoamérica. A pesar de que cada vez más estados se acogen a las recomendaciones del Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute u otros organismos internacionales, el aumento del coste que implica, hace muy difícil conseguir la estandarización.The most significant breakthrough in the newborn screening (NBS) programs was the introduction of the tandem mass spectrometry (MS-MS) to the laboratory, which makes it possible to detect multiple disorders. However, it is difficult to choose the ideal time for the specimen collection, particularly in preterm, low birth weight, and sick newborns. The aim of this study was to revise the protocols, in national and international programs for specimen collection in these newborns. Data were collected from web pages of public health, internet searches, and contact with the laboratories. The results showed a great disparity in criteria for a new specimen collection, as well as among different centres within a country. It has been difficult to obtain this information from many countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), a biomarker of systemic inflammation, has been reported to be higher in patients with PD than in healthy controls (HCs). The present study was aimed at determining if the peripheral inflammatory immune response could be influenced by the genetic background of patients with PD. We included a discovery cohort with 222 patients with PD (132 sporadic PD, 44 LRRK2-associated PD (with p.G2019S and p.R1441G variants), and 46 GBA-associated PD), as well as 299 HCs. Demographic and clinical data were recorded. Leukocytes and their subpopulations, and the NLR were measured in peripheral blood. Multivariate lineal regression and post-hoc tests were applied to determine the differences among the groups. Subsequently, a replication study using the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative cohort was performed which included 401 patients with PD (281 sPD patients, 66 LRRK2-PD patients, 54 GBA-PD patients) and a group of 174 HCs. Patients with sporadic PD and GBA-associated PD showed a significantly lower lymphocyte count, a non-significantly higher neutrophil count and a significantly higher NLR than HCs. The peripheral inflammatory immune response of patients with LRRK2-associated PD did not differ from HCs. Our study supports the involvement of a peripheral inflammatory immune response in the pathophysiology of sPD and GBA-associated PD.     Healthcare workers hospitalized due to COVID-19 have no higher risk of death than general population. Data from the Spanish SEMI-COVID-19 Registry

    Aim To determine whether healthcare workers (HCW) hospitalized in Spain due to COVID-19 have a worse prognosis than non-healthcare workers (NHCW). Methods Observational cohort study based on the SEMI-COVID-19 Registry, a nationwide registry that collects sociodemographic, clinical, laboratory, and treatment data on patients hospitalised with COVID-19 in Spain. Patients aged 20-65 years were selected. A multivariate logistic regression model was performed to identify factors associated with mortality. Results As of 22 May 2020, 4393 patients were included, of whom 419 (9.5%) were HCW. Median (interquartile range) age of HCW was 52 (15) years and 62.4% were women. Prevalence of comorbidities and severe radiological findings upon admission were less frequent in HCW. There were no difference in need of respiratory support and admission to intensive care unit, but occurrence of sepsis and in-hospital mortality was lower in HCW (1.7% vs. 3.9%; p = 0.024 and 0.7% vs. 4.8%; p<0.001 respectively). Age, male sex and comorbidity, were independently associated with higher in-hospital mortality and healthcare working with lower mortality (OR 0.211, 95%CI 0.067-0.667, p = 0.008). 30-days survival was higher in HCW (0.968 vs. 0.851 p<0.001). Conclusions Hospitalized COVID-19 HCW had fewer comorbidities and a better prognosis than NHCW. Our results suggest that professional exposure to COVID-19 in HCW does not carry more clinical severity nor mortality
