    Entrepreneurship and the development of global brands

    Over the course of the twentieth century, entrepreneurs developed a number of successful global brands in consumer-goods industries. However, few independent brands survived the merger waves of the 1980s. To address the question of why so few independent brands survived, this paper examines successful brands in industries that rely principally on advertising for competitive success. Successful consumer-goods brands in several industries and countries are compared in order to highlight innovative strategies pursued by brand managers. The analyzed brands are mainly owned by Europeans, although a few examples of American and Japanese brands are covered as well

However, examinations of brand equity in Private Labels (PL) are rather limited. This study aims to compare the validity of the two prominent CBBE models those introduced by Yoo and Donthu (2001) and Nam et al. (2011). In order to test the models and make this comparison, the study collected data from 236 respondents who rated private labels in Spain. A list of 30 different fashion and sportswear PL was introduced to respondents. These brands do not make any reference to the retail store in which they are sold. Research findings suggest that the extended CBBE model introduced by Nam et al. (2011) and Ciftci et al. (2014) is more reliable and valid than Yoo and Donthu’s model for assessing PL.     Motion to innovation: Brand value sources have (not) changed over time

    Innovation drives the expansion of economies in a global dimension. This is also the reason why contemporary researches indicates the trend of incorporation of the innovation to the strategic concept of brand value building and managing. It has been proven, that innovation is relevant source of brand value perceived by consumers. Such a trend has been established in reaction to the growing importance of brand value for competitive advantage creation in a global perspective. Currently published scientific contributions mainly highlight the importance of brand innovation in selected sectors of national economies abstracting from innovation perceptions due to the national socio-psychological profile. This is the reason why universally applicable theory of innovation in scope of brand value building and managing is missing. The lack of the theory can be removed by identification of importance of innovation attributes as brand value sources in context of market specifics. So, the aim of this paper is to provide such an identification and to verify existence of divergences between “foreign” theory and “domestic” practice. To do that, we use questionnaire, selection analysis and cluster analysis.     Connecting the dots between brand experience and brand loyalty: The mediating role of brand personality and brand relationships

    This article critically examines consumer–brand relationships from the perspective of interpersonal relationship theory. Specifically, the authors investigate the relationship between brand experience and the two components of brand loyalty, namely purchase brand loyalty and attitudinal brand loyalty. The study also examines the link between brand experience and brand relationship variables, brand trust, brand attachment and brand commitment. In addition, the mediating role of brand personality and brand commitment in the relationship between brand experience and brandloyalty is investigated. Drawing on the results of an empirical cross-brand study from three product categories, the authors demonstrate that brand experience, brand personality and brand relationship variables (brand attachment and brand commitment) all affect the degree to which a consumer is loyal to a brand. On the basis of the findings, the authors offer guidelines to managers on how to build and sustain purchase and attitudinal brand loyalty by enhancing brand experience. The theoretical and managerial significance of the findings together with directions for future research are discussed

    Towards modeling the retailer as a brand: A social construction of the grocery store from the customer standpoint

    As a highly customer-sensitive business, retailing is one of the most socially active industries. Nevertheless, when addressing retailers as brands, the retailing literature has failed to account for their unique social orientation, exposing a gap in the literature. This paper utilizes the sociological view of brands to socially construct a conceptual retail brand model from the customer standpoint. An ethnographic study of grocery retailing revealed that the store has, metaphorically, a tree-shaped culture, which can organically model the interplay between building the retailer brand as a culture and the phases constituting the social-self concept
