Potentially inappropriate prescription patterns in older adults: a cross-sectional study in Slovenia
Introduction: The population demographic ageing that is expected in Europe is due to the
increase of life expectancy, combined with the decrease of fertility rates. In 2018, 19,41%
of the Slovenian population was over 65 years old, but this share is expected to increase
to 30,6% in 2050. One way to prevent the increasing of public investments is to optimize
resources and to increase the health of citizens so they have lower morbidity and thus,
that they rely less on the public system. The patterns of prescription among the elderly
are critical to determine an efficient and optimized therapy, decreasing the complexity of
the treatment to the older patient, to obtain better results of public health and lower costs
for the financing system. In this study, the patterns of potentially inappropriate
prescriptions were analyzed among older adults and in each way the demographic
characteristics of physicians (gender and age) influence those patterns. Methods: A
Slovenian database with every prescriptions to population equal or older than 65 years
old from 2018, with information regarding the chemical substance prescribed and the
patients’ and physicians’ demographic characteristics, was provided for this study. The
SPSS IBM statistics software was used as a tool of statistical analysis and mean
comparison through the independent t-test over the content of the database. Results were
obtained. The chemical substances were defined as potential inappropriate based on AGS
Beers Criteria 2019 and the European list named as EU(7) PIM list. Discussion: Female
physicians equal or above 65 years old, were the ones who prescribed more potentially
inappropriate medications. Most of the chemical groups prevalence of prescription were
influenced by age and gender. Conclusion: There is the need to include older adults in
clinical trials to have more evidence of the medication that are inappropriate for them,
and the need to establish therapy guidelines for patients with multimorbidity so the
polypharmacy can be prevented and the resources optimized.Com o patrocínio da Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljan
Phenotypic Architecture and Genetic polymorphims Associated with Social Behaviour in Zebra fish
"Social behaviour is fundamental for the survival and reproduction of organisms, and most animals are social to some degree. It is generally recognized that many neuropsychiatric diseases are associated with some form of social deficit or are accompanied by social impairments. There is also evidence that actual and perceived social isolation are both related with increased mortality risk. Given that social behaviour is central in both humans and other animals’ lives, many researchers with different backgrounds have been actively engaged in the challenge of understanding the nature of this highly complex and dynamic phenomenon. Social behaviour that independently evolved multiple times across animals is an extremely diverse behavioural category, influenced by multiple factors (genes, hormones, environment, ecology, development, life history trait, etc.) requiring a multidisciplinary approach, integrative analysis and standardized terminologies. However, despite its great diversity (both between and within species), there are similarities namely at mechanistic and functional level, which allows organizing social behaviours in functional modules, similar to those used in gene ontology categories.
Petrophysical and geochemical characterization of the late-variscan Santa Eulália Plutonic Complex (Ossa-Morena Zone, Portugal)
The Santa Eulália Plutonic Complex (SEPC) is a calc-alkaline granitic body located in the
northern part of the Ossa Morena Zone, composed by a medium- to coarse-grained pink granite (G0
group) involving large elongated masses of mafic (gabbroic) to intermediate (granodioritic) rocks, M group, and a central gray monzonitic granite (G1 group) which present dominant medium granular
facies. A multidisciplinary study, including petrophysical, AMS and IRM measurements, and geochemical
data, elemental and isotopic (Nd and 18O), point out differences in magnetic behaviour, magnetic
lineations patterns and geochemical features, reflecting distinct petrogenetic processes at the level of the
magmatic sources and evolution, as well as the emplacement mechanisms of M, G0 and G1 facies
associated in the SEPC

This piece of research aims at analyzing the pre-undergraduate archival students perception from two public universities of the municipality of João Pessoa – PB about
the concepts that permeate the archive, especially the Private Personal and Family
Archives (PPFA) with the intention to realize how the conceptual framework with its
fragilities and potentialities occurs. Once the Archival course presents a strong technical bias, we inquired how the theoretical conceptual profile is structured
regarding the private personal and family archives from a macro vision in which we
analyzed the archive concept as work instrument in order to focus on the more
specific analysis afterwards in seek of the concepts related to PPFA. It is an
exploratory-descriptive research carried out in two phases: the bibliographical and
the field research. For data collection, we used a questionnaire with opened and closed questions answered by the pre-undergraduate students of the Archival course from two public universities of the João Pessoa-PB. Therefore, it was used the quanti-
qualitative approach by adopting Bardin ́s analytical perspective (2011). The results
point out weak aspects in the conception of the private personal and family archives
referring mainly to the principle of organicity, document and pieces of information.
Epiphytic lichens as surrogates for biodiversity and ecosystem resilience in native oakwoods of the Baixo Tamega region (Northern Portugal)
In the last 50 years, concern about the loss of lichen diversity associated with forest
management and forest fragmentation has led to many studies designed to assess patterns
and monitor trends of lichen biodiversity in forests worldwide. However there are
surprisingly few studies focusing on the effect of natural disturbance for epiphytic lichens in
forest ecosystems and, especially, on how these changes affect the relationships between
epiphytic lichens and other organisms. The major goal of this thesis was to characterize and
valuate the epiphytic lichens in the Baixo Tamega region (northern Portugal) and to assess its
vulnerability to several drivers of change, particularly fire.
The study area is located in Aboboreira and Castelo, a mountain area with 105 km2 and a top
altitude of approximately 1000 m.a.s.l. In this region, fire is one of the worst natural
catastrophes not only because of its high frequency and wide extension but also because of
their enormous destructive effects.
This thesis has included three case studies that proved the need to develop management
and conservation actions for the area. In the first study we assessed the epiphytic lichen
diversity in the oak woods of the Aboboreira and Castelo mountains. Results have revealed
high diversity value and presence of a lichen community that has suffered general decline
throughout Europe. The second study has addressed the impact of fire over epiphytic lichens
and community recovering patterns. Results observed along the fire gradient showed that
the most common and abundant lichen species establish themselves early in post-fire
gradient while “old-growth” associated lichens tend to recover slowly along the same
gradient. The third study intended to evaluate the potential use of selected lichen species or
groups as biodiversity surrogates, in a scenario of fire-controlled ecological changes.
Results showed that the use of epiphytic lichens as surrogates of bryophyte and vascular
plant diversity should consider not only species richeness and composition, but also
occurrence of disturbing factors, such fire. among the studied groups, lichen genera is the
only group that can be used as surrogate of total epiphytic lichen diversity, independently of
fire induced change
