    Recent results from NA48/2 on Ke4K_{e4} decays and interpretation in terms of ππ\pi\pi scattering lengths

    Preliminary results from a new measurement of the Ke4K_{e4} decay K±π+πe±νK^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{−}e^{\pm}\nu by the Na48/2 collaboration at the CERN SPS are reported. An unprecedented sample of more than 670000 Ke4K_{e4} decays in both charged modes have been collected in 2003. The form factors of the hadronic current (F, G, H) and phase shift (δ00δ11\delta^{0}_{0}−\delta^{1}_{1}) of the ππ\pi\pi scattering have been measured using a model independent method and their variation with the ππ mass has been investigated. First evidence for a non zero fpf_{p} term is reported. Thanks to a sizeable acceptance at large ππ\pi\pi mass, a low background and a very good resolution, an improved accuracy (±0.006stat±0.005syst)(\pm0.006stat \pm0.005_{syst}) can be reached when extracting the ππ\pi\pi scattering length a00a^{0}_{0} . Using more elaborated theory inputs and another NA48/2 result from K±π0π0π±K^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{\pm} decays, a consistent picture can be drawn for the scattering lengths a00a^{0}_{0} and a02a^{2}_{0} , in good agreement with Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions

    Experimental status of the ππ\pi\pi isoscalar S wave at low energy: f0(600)f_0(600) pole and scattering length

    Get PDF
    The experimental results obtained in the last few years on kaon decays (K2π\to2\pi and, above all, Ke4 decays) allow a reliable, model independent determination of low energy ππ\pi\pi scattering in the S0 wave. Using them and, eventually, other sets of data, it is possible to give a precise parametrization of the S0 wave as well as to find the scattering length and effective range parameter. One can also perform an extrapolation to the pole of the "σ\sigma resonance" [f0(600)f_0(600)]. We obtain the results a0(0)=0.233±0.013Mπ1,b0(0)=0.285±0.012Mπ3a_0^{(0)}=0.233\pm0.013 M^{-1}_\pi,\quad b_0^{(0)}=0.285\pm0.012 M^{-3}_\pi and, for the σ\sigma pole, M_\sigma=484\pm17 \mev,\quad\gammav_\sigma/2= 255\pm10 {\rm MeV}.Comment: Plain TeX;4 figures; improved data used; version to appear in Phys. First Observation and Measurement of the Decay K+- -> pi+- e+ e- gamma

    Get PDF
    Using the full data set of the NA48/2 experiment, the decay K+- -> pi+- e+ e- gamma is observed for the first time, selecting 120 candidates with 7.3 +- 1.7 estimated background events. With K+- -> pi+- pi0D as normalisation channel, the branching ratio is determined in a model-independent way to be Br(K+- -> pi+- e+ e- gamma, m_eegamma > 260 MeV/c^2) = (1.19 +- 0.12_stat +- 0.04_syst) x 10^-8. This measured value and the spectrum of the e+ e- gamma invariant mass allow a comparison with predictions of Chiral Perturbation Theory.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures.     Empirical parameterization of the K+- -> pi+- pi0 pi0 decay Dalitz plot

    Get PDF
    As first observed by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, the \p0p0 invariant mass (M00) distribution from \kcnn decay shows a cusp-like anomaly at M00=2m+, where m+ is the charged pion mass. An analysis to extract the pi pi scattering lengths in the isospin I=0 and I=2 states, a0 and a2, respectively, has been recently reported. In the present work the Dalitz plot of this decay is fitted to a new empirical parameterization suitable for practical purposes, such as Monte Carlo simulations of K+- -> pi+- pi0 pi0 decays.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures

    ChPT tests at the NA48 and NA62 experiments at CERN

    Full text link
    The NA48/2 Collaboration at CERN has accumulated unprecedented statistics of rare kaon decays in the Ke4 modes: Ke4(+-) (K±π+πe±νK^\pm \to \pi^+ \pi^- e^\pm \nu) and Ke4(00) (K±π0π0e±νK^\pm \to \pi^0 \pi^0 e^\pm \nu) with nearly one percent background contamination. The detailed study of form factors and branching rates, based on these data, has been completed recently. The results brings new inputs to low energy strong interactions description and tests of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) and lattice QCD calculations. In particular, new data support the ChPT prediction for a cusp in the π0π0\pi^0\pi^0 invariant mass spectrum at the two charged pions threshold for Ke4(00) decay. New final results from an analysis of about 400 K±π±γγK^\pm \to \pi^\pm \gamma \gamma rare decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN during low intensity runs with minimum bias trigger configurations are presented. The results include a model-independent decay rate measurement and fits to ChPT description.Comment: XIIth International Conference on Heavy Quarks and Leptons 2014, Mainz, German

    The NA48/2 Collaboration at CERN has accumulated and analysed unprecedented statistics of rare kaon decays in the Ke4K_{e4} modes: Ke4(+)K_{e4}(+-) (K±π+πe±νK^\pm \to \pi^+ \pi^- e^\pm \nu) and Ke4(00)K_{e4}(00) (K±π0π0e±νK^\pm \to \pi^0 \pi^0 e^\pm \nu) with nearly one percent background contamination. It leads to the improved measurement of branching fractions and detailed form factor studies. New final results from the analysis of 381 K±π±γγK^\pm \to \pi^\pm \gamma \gamma rare decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN are presented. The results include a decay rate measurement and fits to Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) description.Comment: Prepared for the Proceedings of "Moriond QCD and High Energy Interactions. Search for direct CP-violation in K+- --> pi+-pi0pi0 decays

    Get PDF
    A search for direct CP-violation in K+- --> pi+-pi0pi0 decays based on 47.14 million events has been performed by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. The asymmetry in the Dalitz plot linear slopes A_g=(g^+ - g^-)/(g^+ + g^-) is measured to be A_g=(1.8 +- 2.6).10^{-4}. The design of the experiment and the method of analysis provide good control of instrumental charge asymmetries in this measurement. The precision of the result is limited by statistics and is almost one order of magnitude better than that of previous measurements by other experiments.Comment: 14 page

    The NA62 experiment will begin taking data in 2015. Its primary purpose is a 10% measurement of the branching ratio of the ultrarare kaon decay K+π+ννˉK^+ \to \pi^+ \nu \bar{ \nu }, using the decay in flight of kaons in an unseparated beam with momentum 75 GeV/c.The detector and analysis technique are described here.Comment: 8 pages for proceedings of 50 Years of CP

    Search for the glueball candidates f0(1500) and fJ(1710) in gamma gamma collisions

    Full text link
    Data taken with the ALEPH detector at LEP1 have been used to search for gamma gamma production of the glueball candidates f0(1500) and fJ(1710) via their decay to pi+pi-. No signal is observed and upper limits to the product of gamma gamma width and pi+pi- branching ratio of the f0(1500) and the fJ(1710) have been measured to be Gamma_(gamma gamma -> f0(1500)). BR(f0(1500)->pi+pi-) < 0.31 keV and Gamma_(gamma gamma -> fJ(1710)). BR(fJ(1710)->pi+pi-) < 0.55 keV at 95% confidence level.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
