    Implications of a 300-500 GeV/c^2 Z' boson on p\bar{p} collider data at \sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV

Recent analyses of precision low energy electroweak data indicate that the deviation from the Standard Model predictions of the measurement of atomic parity violation (2.3\sigma), the effective number of massless neutrinos (2\sigma), and A_b (2.7\sigma) could be better described if the existence of an extra Z' neutral gauge boson is assumed. We investigate the implications of a 300-500 GeV/c^2 extra Z' on current p\bar{p} collider data at \sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV, including the forward-backward charge asymmetry for very high mass e^+e^- pairs, and the invariant mass spectrum of high mass e^+e^-, \mu^+\mu^-, t\bar t and b\bar b pairs. For example, a 500 GeV/c^2 Z' with a total production cross section of \approx 3 pb and enhanced coupling to the third generation, better describes both the low energy and the Tevatron data.Comment: 4 pages, revtex, 3 postscript figures, 2 tables, to be submitted for publication, further corrections to reference

Management of Hernial Orifices in Robotic Inguinal Hernia Repair

The development of a postoperative seroma after endoscopic transabdominal (TAPP) or extraperitoneal (TEP) groin repair is a frequent problem. Although seromas are usually only mildly symptomatic, the swelling that develops postoperatively often causes patients to feel insecure and worried. In the literature some technical approaches to reduce the incidence of postoperative seroma are described. This technical note deals with the authors’ approach in the management of large medial and lateral hernial orifices during robotic r-TAPP procedures using DaVinci Xi technology with the aim of seroma prophylaxis. Keywords Inguinal hernia, robotic surgery, hernial orifices, seroma, barbed suture, TISSEEL, fibrin sealan

Collective hadronization and air showers: can LHCdata solve the muon puzzle ?

International audienceThe deficit of muons in the simulation of extensive air showers is a long standing problem and the origin of large uncertainties in the reconstruction of the mass of the high energy primary cosmic rays. Hadronic interaction models re-tuned after early LHC data have a more consistent description of the muon content among them but still disagree with data. Collective hadronization due to the formation of a quark gluon plasma (QGP) has already been studied as a possible reason for a larger production of muons under extreme conditions (rare, very central nuclear interactions), but without real success. Because of its different ratio of electromagnetic to hadronic energy, a QGP may have the properties to solve the muon puzzle in particular in the view of the most recent LHC data. It is demonstrated using a theoretical approach and tested in a realistic way by the modification of the EPOS model to produce a QGP also in not so extreme conditions with a possible large impact on air shower physics

Review of the species of Trichomalus (Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae) associated with Ceutorhynchus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) host species of European origin

Six species of Trichomalus Thomson were reared as parasitoids of Ceutorhynchinae hosts in Europe during surveys in 2000-2004. Trichomalus rusticus (Walker) is treated as a valid species, resurrected from synonymy under T. lucidus (Walker), and T. lyttus (Walker) is transferred from synonymy under T. lucidus and newly placed in synonymy with T. rusticus. Illustrated keys to females and males are given to differentiate the six species (T. bracteatus (Walker), T. campestris (Walker), T. gynetelus (Walker), T. lucidus, T. perfectus (Walker), and T. rusticus) except for males of T. bracteatus and T. gynetelus. A lectotype female is designated for T. rusticus. Trichomalus campestris is newly recorded as a parasitoid of Ceutorhynchus cardariae Korotyaev. Implications of the host-parasitoid associations recovered by the surveys are discussed relative to introduction of species to North America for classical biological contro
