Knowledge Questionnaire on Home Care of Schizophrenics (KQHS): Validity and Reliability.
The number of questionnaires developed by nurses has increased in recent years. While the rigor applied to the questionnaire development process may be improving, there is a need for those who develop questionnaires to be skillful. This paper reports the process of development of a Knowledge Questionnaire on Home care of Schizophrenics (KQHS) which is a part of a larger study. The KQHS is developed with an aim to determine the knowledge of primary caregivers on home care of schizophrenic patients. It is a self-administered 32 item multiple choice questionnaire that quantifies four aspects of home care, i.e, meaning, cause, signs and symptoms of schizophrenia and care of schizophrenics. Review of literature, preparation of blueprint, development of the items, validity, pretesting and reliability were the steps used in the process of its development. After establishing the content validity, the KQHS was pretested. Split half technique (odd-even) was used to determine coefficient correlation using Karl Pearson formula, following which the Spearman’s Brown Prophecy formula was used for establishing the reliability r (20) =0.92. Item analysis was computed to assess performance of individual question and it revealed overall good results with value for item difficulty ranging from 20 to 80 percentage and item discrimination index of above 0.2. The KQHS is a brief and simple-to-use instrument, which is valid and reliable. It is suitable for assessing the knowledge on home care of schizophrenic patients among primary caregivers. NALLA-2 : Strain measurements
Strains were monitored for NALLA2 Structural components at critical locations : 60 locations for wing, 50 for fuselage, 6 each for horizontal tail, vertical tail, landing gear and nose gear and 20 locations for wing fuselage joint. While the wing fuselage joint was tested upto the ultimate load, the rest of the components were loaded upto the limit load only. The measured strains have proved the linear behaviour upto the limit Load, with zero yield, validating the structural integrity, of the components
Vacuum Ambiguity in de Sitter Space at Strong Coupling
It is well known that in the weak coupling regime, quantum field theories in
de Sitter space do not have a unique vacuum, but a class of vacua parametrized
by a complex parameter , i.e., the so-called -vacua. In this
article, using gauge/gravity duality, we calculate the symmetric two-point
function of strongly coupled supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on
. We find that there is a class of de Sitter invariant vacua,
parametrized by a set of complex parameters .Comment: 17 pages in JHEP style, references adde
From counting to construction of BPS states in N=4 SYM
We describe a universal element in the group algebra of symmetric groups,
whose characters provides the counting of quarter and eighth BPS states at weak
coupling in N=4 SYM, refined according to representations of the global
symmetry group. A related projector acting on the Hilbert space of the free
theory is used to construct the matrix of two-point functions of the states
annihilated by the one-loop dilatation operator, at finite N or in the large N
limit. The matrix is given simply in terms of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of
symmetric groups and dimensions of U(N) representations. It is expected, by
non-renormalization theorems, to contain observables at strong coupling. Using
the stringy exclusion principle, we interpret a class of its eigenvalues and
eigenvectors in terms of giant gravitons. We also give a formula for the action
of the one-loop dilatation operator on the orthogonal basis of the free theory,
which is manifestly covariant under the global symmetry.Comment: 41 pages + Appendices, 4 figures; v2 - refs and acknowledgments adde
A valley-spin qubit in a carbon nanotube
Although electron spins in III-V semiconductor quantum dots have shown great
promise as qubits, a major challenge is the unavoidable hyperfine decoherence
in these materials. In group IV semiconductors, the dominant nuclear species
are spinless, allowing for qubit coherence times that have been extended up to
seconds in diamond and silicon. Carbon nanotubes are a particularly attractive
host material, because the spin-orbit interaction with the valley degree of
freedom allows for electrical manipulation of the qubit. In this work, we
realise such a qubit in a nanotube double quantum dot. The qubit is encoded in
two valley-spin states, with coherent manipulation via electrically driven spin
resonance (EDSR) mediated by a bend in the nanotube. Readout is performed by
measuring the current in Pauli blockade. Arbitrary qubit rotations are
demonstrated, and the coherence time is measured via Hahn echo. Although the
measured decoherence time is only 65 ns in our current device, this work offers
the possibility of creating a qubit for which hyperfine interaction can be
virtually eliminated
Quantum Fluctuations and the Unruh Effect in Strongly-Coupled Conformal Field Theories
Through the AdS/CFT correspondence, we study a uniformly accelerated quark in
the vacuum of strongly-coupled conformal field theories in various dimensions,
and determine the resulting stochastic fluctuations of the quark trajectory.
From the perspective of an inertial observer, these are quantum fluctuations
induced by the gluonic radiation emitted by the accelerated quark. From the
point of view of the quark itself, they originate from the thermal medium
predicted by the Unruh effect. We scrutinize the relation between these two
descriptions in the gravity side of the correspondence, and show in particular
that upon transforming the conformal field theory from Rindler space to the
open Einstein universe, the acceleration horizon disappears from the boundary
theory but is preserved in the bulk. This transformation allows us to directly
connect our calculation of radiation-induced fluctuations in vacuum with the
analysis by de Boer et al. of the Brownian motion of a quark that is on average
static within a thermal medium. Combining this same bulk transformation with
previous results of Emparan, we are also able to compute the stress-energy
tensor of the Unruh thermal medium.Comment: 1+31 pages; v2: reference adde
String Theory on Warped AdS_3 and Virasoro Resonances
We investigate aspects of holographic duals to time-like warped AdS_3
space-times--which include G\"odel's universe--in string theory. Using
worldsheet techniques similar to those that have been applied to AdS_3
backgrounds, we are able to identify space-time symmetry algebras that act on
the dual boundary theory. In particular, we always find at least one Virasoro
algebra with computable central charge. Interestingly, there exists a dense set
of points in the moduli space of these models in which there is actually a
second commuting Virasoro algebra, typically with different central charge than
the first. We analyze the supersymmetry of the backgrounds, finding related
enhancements, and comment on possible interpretations of these results. We also
perform an asymptotic symmetry analysis at the level of supergravity, providing
additional support for the worldsheet analysis.Comment: 24 pages + appendice
Genome-Wide Characterization of Menin-Dependent H3K4me3 Reveals a Specific Role for Menin in the Regulation of Genes Implicated in MEN1-Like Tumors
Inactivating mutations in the MEN1 gene predisposing to the multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome can also cause sporadic pancreatic endocrine tumors. MEN1 encodes menin, a subunit of MLL1/MLL2-containing histone methyltransferase complexes that trimethylate histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3). The importance of menin-dependent H3K4me3 in normal and transformed pancreatic endocrine cells is unclear. To study the role of menin-dependent H3K4me3, we performed in vitro differentiation of wild-type as well as menin-null mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) into pancreatic islet-like endocrine cells (PILECs). Gene expression analysis and genome-wide H3K4me3 ChIP-Seq profiling in wild-type and menin-null mESCs and PILECs revealed menin-dependent H3K4me3 at the imprinted Dlk1-Meg3 locus in mESCs, and all four Hox loci in differentiated PILECs. Specific and significant loss of H3K4me3 and gene expression was observed for genes within the imprinted Dlk1-Meg3 locus in menin-null mESCs and the Hox loci in menin-null PILECs. Given that the reduced expression of genes within the DLK1-MEG3 locus and the HOX loci is associated with MEN1-like sporadic tumors, our data suggests a possible role for menin-dependent H3K4me3 at these genes in the initiation and progression of sporadic pancreatic endocrine tumors. Furthermore, our investigation also demonstrates that menin-null mESCs can be differentiated in vitro into islet-like endocrine cells, underscoring the utility of menin-null mESC-derived specialized cell types for genome-wide high-throughput studies
Warped AdS3/Dipole-CFT Duality
String theory contains solutions with SL(2,R)_R x U(1)_L-invariant warped
AdS3 (WAdS3) factors arising as continuous deformations of ordinary AdS3
factors. We propose that some of these are holographically dual to the IR
limits of nonlocal dipole-deformed 2D D-brane gauge theories, referred to as
"dipole CFTs". Neither the bulk nor boundary theories are currently
well-understood, and consequences of the proposed duality for both sides is
investigated. The bulk entropy-area law suggests that dipole CFTs have (at
large N) a high-energy density of states which does not depend on the
deformation parameter. Putting the boundary theory on a spatial circle leads to
closed timelike curves in the bulk, suggesting a relation of the latter to
dipole-type nonlocality.Comment: 13 page
The Universal Plausibility Metric (UPM) & Principle (UPP)
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Mere possibility is not an adequate basis for asserting scientific plausibility. A precisely defined universal bound is needed beyond which the assertion of <it>plausibility</it>, particularly in life-origin models, can be considered operationally falsified. But can something so seemingly relative and subjective as plausibility ever be quantified? Amazingly, the answer is, "Yes." A method of objectively measuring the plausibility of any chance hypothesis (The Universal Plausibility Metric [UPM]) is presented. A numerical inequality is also provided whereby any chance hypothesis can be definitively falsified when its UPM metric of ξ is < 1 (The Universal Plausibility Principle [UPP]). Both UPM and UPP pre-exist and are independent of any experimental design and data set.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>No low-probability hypothetical plausibility assertion should survive peer-review without subjection to the UPP inequality standard of formal falsification (ξ < 1).</p
