    Beta-decay properties of neutron-rich Ca, Ti, and Cr isotopes

    Beta-decay properties of neutron-rich Ca, Ti, and Cr isotopes are studied within a deformed proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The underlying mean field is described self-consistently from deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock calculations with pairing correlations. Residual spin-isospin interactions in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels are also included in the formalism. The energy distributions of the Gamow-Teller strength, the beta-decay feedings, the beta-decay half-lives, and the beta-delayed neutron emission probabilities are discussed and compared with other theoretical results, as well as with the available experimental information. The evolution of these nuclear beta-decay properties is investigated in isotopic chains in a search for structural changes. A reliable estimate of the beta-decay properties in this mass region is a valuable information for evaluating decay rates in astrophysical scenarios.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figure

    Optical Transmittance Maximization in Superior Performance Tunnel Junctions for Very High Concentration Applications.

    The light transmission through a tunnel junction in a multijunction solar cell depends on the optical properties and thickness of the whole solar cell layers stack, which configure the light absorption, reflection and interference processes taking place inside the semiconductor structure. In this paper the focus is put on the AlGaAs barrier layers of p++AlGaAs/n++GaAs and p++AlGaAs/n++GaInP tunnel junctions inserted into a GaInP/GaAs dualjunction solar cell. The aim is to analyze the effect of the thickness and Al-composition of these barrier layers on the light transmittance of the tunnel junction, using the bottom cell Jsc as the merit figure to appraise it. An intricate relation between this Jsc and the barrier layers parameters, caused by interferential reflectance, was observed. The importance of an appropriate optical design of the semiconductor structure was corroborated by a non-negligible gain in the bottom cell Jsc when choosing the appropriate barrier layers Al-compositions and thicknesses from a range of practical values for which the optical absorption is not the main contributor to the optical losses

    Advancing Reproductive Justice in Latin America Through a Transitional Justice Lens

    Reproductive autonomy is a pivotal part of women’s access to equal citizenship, yet it has not been included in any international nor regional human rights treaty. In the past decades, the U.N. Committees, notably the CEDAW Committee, and regional human rights bodies, particularly the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights, have timidly advanced reproductive justice through their jurisprudence, including through the use of reparations. Drawing from the standards of reparations developed in the field of transitional justice, human rights bodies increasingly rely on reparations to enhance the transformative effects of their decisions. These reparations intend to include a gender-perspective in their design and aim to ensure the non-repetition of human rights violation, not only to the victim, but to society. Constitutional courts in Latin America are increasingly relying on the standards of reparations in their own decisions, including in those on reproductive justice. In this Article, I analyze two recent rulings from Latin American constitutional courts–one from Colombia and one from Ecuador–to understand how courts can use reparations to advance reproductive justice. I analyze these particular rulings for two reasons: (1) Both rulings have the potential to develop reproductive jurisprudence in the region where high courts have traditionally imported international and comparative law to resolve legal debates over reproductive rights; and (2) Both rulings challenge the traditional concept of reparations and offer an opportunity to rethink how the remedy can be deployed in a human rights context

    The aim of this analysis is to do a short review of the Mediterranean Region situation in terms of Security. The regional integration will be tackled as the unique solution to face risks, threats and conflicts inside its frame. The multilateral initiatives which constitute the called “Architecture of Security” offer models to achieve this aim. The present contribution will be focused on the often unknown 5+5 Initiative of Defense. The scientific intention is not to point out a final solution to the troubling scene of the Mediterranean basin; it is just an approach to highlight the state of art on this issue.Este análisis tiene como objetivo una breve revisión de la situación de seguridad en la región del Mediterráneo. Entendiendo la integración regional como la única solución factible para hacer frente a los riesgos, amenazas y conflictos que tienen lugar en este espacio. Las iniciativas multilaterales, conocidas como la “Arquitectura de Seguridad” constituyen diferentes modelos para alcanzar este objetivo. Dentro de ellas este estudio se centrará en la Iniciativa 5+5 Defensa, que con frecuencia es poco conocida. La intención científica de esta contribución no es la aportación de una solución definitiva para el escenario conflictivo del Mediterráneo, sino ofrecer una visión general sobre cómo se encuentra esta situación en el presente.Cette analyse vise à un bref examen de la situation de sécurité dans la région méditerranéenne. Entendue la intégration régionale comme la seule solution possible pour faire face aux risques, menaces et conflits qui se déroulent dans cet espace. Initiatives multilatérales, connues comme « architecture de sécurité », constituent des modèles différents pour atteindre cet objectif. De façon particulière cet étude metra l’accent sur l’initiative 5 + 5 Défense, souvent peu connue.     Reliability of III-V concentrator solar cells

    III–V concentrator solar cells are starting to be commercialized. However, no complete studies about their reliability have been carried out. A review about both the accelerated ageing tests and real time tests developed till now is presented. A proposal about the required tests is also done. In this stage, the tests show that III–V concentrator cells are robust devices with MTTFs well over the expected ones (30 years)

    Analysis of Chromatic Aberration Effects in Triple-Junction Solar Cells Using Advanced Distributed Models

    The consideration of real operating conditions for the design and optimization of a multijunction solar cell receiver-concentrator assembly is indispensable. Such a requirement involves the need for suitable modeling and simulation tools in order to complement the experimental work and circumvent its well-known burdens and restrictions. Three-dimensional distributed models have been demonstrated in the past to be a powerful choice for the analysis of distributed phenomena in single- and dual-junction solar cells, as well as for the design of strategies to minimize the solar cell losses when operating under high concentrations. In this paper, we present the application of these models for the analysis of triple-junction solar cells under real operating conditions. The impact of different chromatic aberration profiles on the short-circuit current of triple-junction solar cells is analyzed in detail using the developed distributed model. Current spreading conditions the impact of a given chromatic aberration profile on the solar cell I-V curve. The focus is put on determining the role of current spreading in the connection between photocurrent profile, subcell voltage and current, and semiconductor layers sheet resistance
