    Spectroscopic and Photometric Study of the Contact Binary BO CVn

    We present the results of the study of the contact binary system BO CVn. We have obtained physical parameters of the components based on combined analysis of new, multi-color light curves and spectroscopic mass ratio. This is the first time the latter has been determined for this object. We derived the contact configuration for the system with a very high filling factor of about 88 percent. We were able to reproduce the observed light curve, namely the flat bottom of the secondary minimum, only if a third light has been added into the list of free parameters. The resulting third light contribution is significant, about 20-24 percent, while the absolute parameters of components are: M1=1.16, M2=0.39, R1=1.62 and R2=1.00 (in solar units). The O-C diagram shows an upward parabola which, under the conservative mass transfer assumption, would correspond to a mass transfer rate of dM/dt = 6.3 \times 10-8M\odot/yr, matter being transferred from the less massive component to the more massive one.     Evaluation of Seismic Performance of Steel Lattice Transmission Towers

    The electricity transmission systems are an important lifeline for modern societies. They are used for overhead power lines as supporting structures. Transmission towers are designed to meet electrical and structural requirements. They are designed according to the weight of conductors and environmental effects such as wind and ice loads. They also considered other extraordinary stresses such as cable breakage and ice-breaking effects. Because of a common perception that transmission line (TL) towers show low sensitivity to earthquakes, the effects of the earthquake in TL tower construction are not considered. For this reason, TL towers are investigated with regard to the seismic performance in this study. The principal objectives of this research are: i) to assess the sensitivity of typical TL towers to earthquake loads, ii) to retrofit an existing steel lattice tower using a new section Centre To Center (CTC). In this study, a finite element model of a representative 154 KV transmission tower in Turkey was performed using a set of 10 recorded earthquake ground movements. The four-legged square TL tower has been analyzed and designed for Turkey, Eskisehir seismic zone considering 42.95 m height using finite element (FE) software. Therefore, a new section Centre To Center (CTC) type has been designed and the failed sections have been replaced with a designed section using the SAP2000 section designer.     Exploring religious tourist experiences in Jerusalem: The intersection of Abrahamic religions

    By considering the importance of religious tourism for travel and the tourism industry, this study aims to identify religious tourists' experiences in Jerusalem, as one of the most important holy cities. By a survey, 848 data were collected from the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religious tourists. Results showed that religious tourism experience was a multi-faceted construct, which consists of engaging mentally, discovering new things, interacting & belonging, connecting spiritually & emotionally, and relaxing & finding peace dimensions. By using these dimensions, perceived experience differences of tourists were examined depending on religion. Moreover, religious tourism experience was identified to significantly affect overall tourist satisfaction with Jerusalem. The study concluded with discussion of the findings and their implications

    Investigation of the deposition and thermal behavior of striped phases of unsymmetric disulfide self-assembled monolayers on Au(111): The case of 11-hydroxyundecyl decyl disulfide

    Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of unsymmetric disulfides on Au(111) are used to form mixed SAMs that can be utilized in many applications. Here, we have studied 11-hydroxyundecyl decyl disulfide (CH3-(CH2)9-S-S-(CH2)11-OH, HDD) SAMs produced by supersonic molecular beam deposition and characterized by He diffraction. The film growth was monitored at different temperatures up to a coverage which corresponds to a full lying down phase and the diffraction analysis shows that below 250 K the phase is different from the phase measured above 300 K. During the annealing of the film, two phase transitions were observed, at 250 K and 350 K. The overall data suggest that the former is related to an irreversible phase separation of HDD above 250 K to decanethiolate (-S-(CH2)9-CH3, DTT) and hydroxyundecylthiolate (-S-(CH2)11-OH, MUDT), while the latter to a reversible melting of the film. Above 450 K, the specular intensity shows an increase related to film desorption and different chemisorbed states were observed with energies in the same range as observed for decanethiol (H-S-(CH2)9-CH3, DT) and mercaptoundecanol (H-S-(CH2)11-OH, MUD) SAMs

Sci., This study aimed to determine the effects of six nitrogen rates (0, 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg ha -1 ) on forage yield and quality of crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum L. Gaertn.). Dry matter (DM) yield, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, (K/Ca+Mg), NDF, ADF, TDN, DDM, DMI, RFV and NE 1 were determined. Nitrogen rates significantly affected most of the components determined in crested wheatgrass. Nitrogen applications increased DM yield, N, P and K contents but decreased Ca, Mg, tetany ratio, NDF and ADF. TDN, DDM, DMI, RFV and NE 1 increased by increasing N fertilization. The results showed that crested wheatgrass at the 160 kg ha -1 nitrogen treatment achieved a higher forage yield and quality than other nitrogen doses

    Converting wandering behaviour into a guided activity: a case study of co-designing with People Living with Dementia based on theoretical models

    For People Living with Dementia (PLwD), wandering behaviour can cause undesired consequences, such as falling, getting lost or even fatalities. For caregivers, taking care of PLwD with wandering behaviours is burdensome. If not intervened early, some wandering behaviours will escalate into crisis events. This design research aims to explore how to convert the wandering behaviour to a guided activity with the minimum input from caregivers by intervening early, that is, engaging PLwD, to avoid potential escalations. Based on Need-driven Dementia-compromised Behaviour (NDB) model, Crisis Development model and via a co-design approach, we developed De-light. De-light is a set of interactive sticks enhanced by light, audio and tactile experiences. Based on the degree of wandering behaviours of PLwD, De-light can be placed by the caregiver in a safe and suitable area in the nursing home to provide a controlled setting for guiding PLwD to perform physical activity. Our design research implies the possibilities of applying NDB model, Crisis Development model, and co- design approach in designing for the wandering behaviours for PLwD
