Esporte Interativo e o Dilema de Distribuição de Conteúdo: Um Estudo de Caso para Ensino
This teaching case describes the trajectory of the Brazilian media group Esporte Interativo (EI), a company started by three young entrepreneurs and dedicated to produce and distribute sports content across multiple platforms. The dilemma is centered on CEO and co-founder of the group, Edgar Diniz, who is facing a new phase in the company with the impending sale to Turner, television arm of Time Warner, in late 2014. The clash of business models may pose challenges to the company's management, which must decide the future strategic direction. The information used in the case are real and were obtained through in-depth interviews with the founder and CEO, the other founder and Vice President of Digital Media and the Vice President of Business Development, as well as desk research and literature review. It is suggested that the case can be used for postgraduate students in Business Strategy disciplines, with the following educational objectives: a) business ecosystems analysis and reconfiguration of industries from the changes generated by the development of Information and Communication Technologies; b) understanding of strategic issues related to the management platforms and dynamic "winner-takes-all" where the rewards for achieving leadership are disproportionate to the benefit that one has on those who do not reach it, which is typical of networking markets; c) Discussion of the types of innovation (incremental and disruptive) and its consequences for new entrants and incumbents; d) planning with scenarios.
In this context, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has gained importance and is generating a significant debate in academia and business. Several authors have adopted a theoretical premise according to which the consumer perceives an added benefit when purchasing products associated with CSR, this benefit being related to feeling good and to doing good. This research study aims to investigate the effects of CSR upon the benefit perceived by consumers and their purchase intent, in a context in which socially responsible businesses maintain higher pricing than their competition. Through an experiment, the authors tested the effect of CSR on dependent variables. A scale for measuring the perceived benefit variable, which was absent from the literature, was developed. The results showed that the consumers surveyed saw an added benefit in buying the products of socially responsible companies and that they are willing to pay 10% more for such products. To close the article, the main limitations, conclusions and suggestions for future research are indicated

In this work, we investigate the hypothesis that thermally driven flows modulate the horizontal migration patterns of freshwater zooplankters. A 48-h field campaign in a shallow lake (Lake Vela, Quiaios, Portugal) was carried out to test this hypothesis. Thermal differences between the littoral and limnetic areas were measured along two transects featuring a Schoenoplectus lacustris and a Myriophyllum aquaticum stand in the littoral. In parallel, the physiochemistry and chlorophyll a, as a proxy for food availability differences between the littoral and the limnetic zones, were monitored. Zooplankton samples were collected for assessing overall and group-specific number-density differences. The diel period (day or night) and the site (littoral or limnetic zone) did not interact significantly to modulate the variation patterns for the studied physiochemical variables, indicating that these parameters should not explain horizontal zooplankton distribution patterns. The expected patterns for zooplankton diel horizontal migration as driven by the presence of visual predators were occasionally confirmed by our limnetic versus littoral abundance records through time, depending on the transect. Group-specific abundance patterns indicate particular features: copepods always preferred the littoral over the limnetic zone regardless of the diel period; chydorids always preferred the littoral zone regardless of the macrophyte stand involved; bosminids tended to preferentially concentrate in the limnetic zone. No consistent relationship was identified between the expected flow direction due to temperature differences and zooplankton abundance changes, although it occasionally occurred through the dataset.publishersversionpublishe
Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research
Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4
While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge
of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In
the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of
Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus
crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced
environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian
Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by
2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status,
much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lostinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
