Ankara : The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Univ., 2014.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 2014.Includes bibliographical references leaves 135-142.The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of color on approach avoidance behavior. For a better understanding of approach avoidance behavior both the hue of color and the location of color are studied. The experiment is conducted with six different sample groups and three different color settings which are gray, red and green. Under the three main color settings there were two sub settings as when the color is on the right and when the color is on the left. All the atmospheric properties other than color were kept same. University laboratory was turned into an environment where four identical stands that worked as displays for the items placed on them, a mirror and a seating unit was placed. The items exhibited were all women sports outwear of similar design and color. The participants were 108 students from Bilkent University. Each participant was taken in individually and asked to experience the space freely. Each participant was evaluated in terms of the total amount of time spent in the environment, number of items touched, time spent for investigating items, time spent for browsing items, number of items tried and their orientation patterns in the environment. All the constructs listed above were derived from the Mehrabian-Russell Stimulus Response Model. It was induced that the hue of the color does not have a significant influence on approach/avoidance behavior. However, the location of color in the environment has a strong influence on the orientation patterns of individuals and therefore associative with approach and avoidance behavior. It was observed that, people tend to go towards the differently colored part of the room.Özmen, İpekM.S

The relation between urban life and art with the context of the flâneur’s transformation is approached by taking “the flâneur” as a symbol of relation between urban everyday life and art, and by discussing the transformation of everyday life till today. Art pieces that we meet in public places of the city, can help dwellers to have different perspectives about the city. Or art works, which dwellers produce themselves, like “graffiti”, provide the communication between other dwellers and the whole city. On the otherside, international or local art festivals are prepared for the city-wide. By that way, the city itself and everyday life become an aesthetic work. The frame of this work comprises the flâneur’s changing existances with the changing urban life. With the help of flâneur, we can observe the relations between art and everyday life in terms of the mobility of cities and the transformation of the concepts that are related to the cities.Yüksek LisansM.Sc

The main purpose of the present study was to examine the leadership styles of Turkish middle-level managers and leadership prototypes of Turkish employees in terms of task-oriented and people-oriented behaviours. The secondary purpose was to investigate the effects of incongruence between actual and ideal manager perceptions on three important work outcomes: performance (task and contextual performance), job satisfaction, and organizational commitment (affective, continuance, and normative commitment). A total of 320 people working in a wide range of organizations (71 managers and 239 employees) filled out the questionnaire. Employees rated their actual managers̕ leadership style and also their ideal manager̕s leadership style (i.e., leader prototype) in the same questionnaire, while the managers rated their own leadership style as well as their leadership style as perceived by their subordinates. Additionally, supervisory-rated performance and self-rated job satisfaction and organizational commitment levels of employees were obtained. Results indicated that self-reported leadership styles of Turkish managers were consisting of more people-oriented behaviours than task-oriented behaviours. On the contrary, employees perceived their managers as being more task-oriented than people-oriented. Ideal leadership style for the employees were comprised of higher levels of both task- and people-oriented behaviours than their actual managers. Incongruence between the actual and ideal manager perceptions of employees predicted job satisfaction levels of the employees only. The results are discussed together with the implications, strengths and limitations of the study. Some suggestions for future research are made.M.S. - Master of Scienc

WOS: 000390990500004PubMed ID: 26256936Background: Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and cervical adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome is a common disorder in children but there is little or no consensus on its optimal diagnosis and management. Objectives: To compare the outcome of different management approaches - medical therapy or tonsillectomy. Methods: The medical records of children diagnosed with PFAPA between 2008 and 2013 were retrospectively reviewed according to the modified Thomas test criteria. Patients were divided into two groups: group 1 for medical treatment - corticosteroids, a single intramuscular injection of methylprednisolone, and group 2 for surgery - tonsillectomy alone or tonsillectomy plus adenoidectomy .The course of the disease including the number and duration of episodes and the presence of remission, was documented. Results: 105 patients (30 in group 1, 75 in group 2) met the study's inclusion criteria. Groups 1 and 2 were followed up for a mean (SD) of 23.6 (11.0) and 24 (10.3) months, respectively. At the end of the follow-up period, the number of episodes was 5.8 (6.3) vs 1.8 (1.9) (P<0.01) and their duration was 2.2 (1.3) vs 1.1 (0.8) days (P=0.03), both of which were significantly lower in group 2.The need for hospitalization during this period was significantly lower for group 2 at 1.1 (2.0) vs 0.1 (0.3) (P<0.01) and the remission rate in group 2 was significantly higher than in group 1 (98.6% vs 56.6%, P<0.01).Conclusion: This study demonstrated that surgery is superior to medical treatment for PFAPA in terms of increased remission rates and a decrease in the number and duration of episodes
