Clinical Reasoning And Intervention Selection For A Patient With Lower Extremity Weakness Following Acute Alcoholic Polyneuropathy: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Alcoholic polyneuropathy is a sensorimotor peripheral polyneuropathy. APN usually affects individuals over 40 years old with a history of chronic alcoholism. Most cases occur chronically over several months. Acute cases of APN may develop over the course of weeks. Symptoms of APN include paresthesia and paralysis. There are a variety of suspected mechanisms for etiology for APN. Literature is sparse in relation to physical therapy management and interventions for a patient with acute alcoholic polyneuropathy. The purpose of this case report was to describe the clinical reasoning behind interventions selected for a patient with acute alcoholic polyneuropathy in the acute setting.https://dune.une.edu/pt_studcrposter/1073/thumbnail.jp

A mathematical modeling approach to energy cost saving in manufacturing plant

    Get PDF
Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Energy Engineering, Izmir, 2004Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 46-48)Text in English, Abstract: Turkish and Englishix, 161 leavesThe objective of this study is to develop mathematical models that meet the finished products requirements at a minimum cost of energy used in the process subject to different operational constraints. An energy-intensive process is chosen for the study.Four different linear programming models are developed. Model 1 is the base form of the other models and focuses on minimizing total energy costs and meeting customer demands subject to operational constraints of the process. In model 2, 3 and 4, constraints of model 1 are adapted to different production and marketing circumstances.Model 2 focuses on reducing inventory-holding costs. Model 3 focuses on utilizing time capacity 100 %. Model 4 focuses on increasing production for more products also taking into account marketing circumstances. Sensitivity analysis of the models yields a better insight to the real problem and gives an idea what is now, and will be in the near future. Since the aim of the thesis is to focus on the energy costs, sensitivity analysis is related to the changes in prices of the resources and their effects on optimal production values

Orthodontics in Relation with Alveolar Bone Grafting in CLP Patients

    Get PDF
Alveolar bone grafting is an essential step in the overall management of patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP). The numerous advantages of this procedure have been reported in the literature. Failure to rehabilitate the alveolar cleft may give rise to a variety of problems. Lack of investing alveolar bone often precludes the correction of anterior tooth irregularities and limits orthodontic treatment and/or prosthodontic rehabilitation. The success of the graft is multifactorial. The periodontal health of the surrounding graft tissues, the experience and ability of the surgeon, the timing of surgery, and orthodontic management of the cleft area before and after grafting are shown to be the most important factors in this issue. In this chapter, current orthodontic approaches in relation with alveolar bone grafting (ABG) in cleft patients will be discussed

Sample issue for the teaching of socio-scientific issues: The endangered Northern bald ibis

    Get PDF
The prominence of socioscientific issues (SSI), that combine society with science, in education has grown in recent years. The northern bald ibis is important for science and society since it is an endangered species, it only inhabits one region in Turkey and has a limited population worldwide. This study aims to ascertain the impact of the implemented SSI program on participating high school students from the area where the endangered northern bald ibis can be found, insofar as their conceptual knowledge and their opinions about the SSI. The study used a one group pretest-posttest design. The participants for the study were 75 students from a state high-school in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa province. The study used and SSI program centred around interaction. The conceptual knowledge form and the scenario called “Northern Bald Ibis Under Threat” were used as data collection tools before and after the SSI program. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using paired samples t test and content analysis was employed to analyse qualitative data. The quantitative findings of the study show that implementation of the SSI program enhanced the level of conceptual knowledge of the participating high students who live in the area inhabited by the northern bald ibis. The qualitative data obtained in the study show that the high school students’ opinions changed following the SSI program. Before the SSI program the students stated that they though hunting was the reason the northern bald ibis was going extinct whereas after the SSI program the students stated opinions related to agricultural pesticides as a reason for extinction. When it comes to suggestions to protect the northern bald ibis, this study observed that student opinions shifted from suggestions related to taking better care of the species before the program, to protecting the environment after the program. It was also observed that at the end of the SSI program students had a broader perspective on the issue and evaluated the issue using more scientific terminology

Le montage : de la vision à l’action

    Get PDF
The aim of this article is to show how montage, often described as the essence of cinematographic language, constitutes an apparatus for the mediation of vision and action. Walter Benjamin, building on Eisenstein's analysis of the "montage of attractions," was one of the first theorists to stress that the visual shock of montage obliges the spectator to react politically and to adopt a progressive mode of behaviour

    Speech Synthesis Utilizing Microcomputer Control

    Get PDF
This report explores the subject of speech synthesis. Information given includes a brief explanation of speech production in man, an historical view of speech synthesis, and four types of electronic synthesizers in use today. Also included is a brief presentation on phonetics, the study of speech sounds. An understanding of this subject is necessary to see how a synthesizer must produce certain sounds, and how these sounds are put together to create words. Finally a description of a limited text speech synthesizer is presented. This system allows the user to enter English text via a keyboard and have it output in spoken form. The future of speech synthesis appears to be very bright. This report also gives some possible applications of verbal computer communication
