BRAZIL'S AMAZON TO THE WORLD: PRESIDENT BOLSONARO'S DISCOURSE AT THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY

This paper analyzes the discourse on the Amazon of Brazil's president Bolsonaro at the UN General Assembly in 2020. The objective is to observe how the region has been integrated into the federal political agenda and the discursive strategies marked by “disinformation" adopted by Brazil's chief executive. We use the three-dimensional assumptions of Critical Discourse Analysis. Brazil’s president promoted inaccurate data, made unfounded statements, victimized himself, and kept silent about negative information related to his management. He sought to promote a distorted view on environmental management and on the Amazonian reality, putting the effective protection of the region at risk.

THE MASQUERADE: HUMOR, REALITY AND FICTION IN HENRY FIELDING’S WORKS

The eighteenth century was a decisive period for the rise and consolidation of the English novel. Considering Henry Fielding’s (1707-1754) importance in such process, this article aims to analyze the relationship between fiction and reality in some of his works — with emphasis on Joseph Andrews (1742) and its preface, but also considering Shamela (1741) and Tom Jones (1749). For such relationship, the construction of humor or comic is crucial, because the affectation is, in Fielding's view, the only source of the true ridiculousness present in the world. It is through affectation that fiction and reality come together in their idiosyncrasies and interpenetrations, which allows Fielding to subvert and raise to absurdity the quest for factuality that was common to novels at the time.DOI: https://doi.org/10.47295/mgren.v8i2.201

Participação Popular, Espaço Público e Autogestão

Esse texto tem como objetivo problematizar a relação entre Estado e sociedade, na democracia contemporânea, e analisar os espaços participativos e o seu papel nas políticas de economia solidária. O estudo do sentido político das experiências baseia-se em uma perspectiva teórica que amplia o conceito de política, e ressalta sua centralidade, partindo do pensamento de H. Arendt. Conjuntamente, busca-se debater sobre o processo de formação do movimento de economia solidária, a partir das experiências de autogestão, retomando concepções de E. P. Thompson sobre a formação de coletividades. Contextualizando esse estudo no debate acadêmico das Ciências Sociais, busca-se construir um olhar histórico sobre a participação popular e o seu significado no processo de redemocratização do país, bem como examinar experiências de participação no Brasil e no mundo, analisando-as a partir de seus limites, potencialidades e papel na sociedade. Discute-se, então, especificamente as experiências participativas relacionadas às políticas públicas de economia solidária. Por fim, a partir de análises sobre as disputas de projetos políticos presentes no processo de construção democrática na atualidade, ressalta-se a importância do aprofundamento da participação como base para a reinvenção da política, efetivação da democracia e fortalecimento da autogestão e da economia solidári

Attitudes to ageing and objectively-measured sedentary and walking behaviour in older people: the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936

Background:Prolonged sitting and low activity—both common in older people—are associated with increased mortality and poorer health. Whether having a more negative attitude to ageing is associated with higher levels of these behaviours is unclear.Objective:We investigated the prospective relationship between attitudes to ageing and objectively measured sedentary and walking behaviour.Methods:Participants were 271 members of the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936. At age 72 years, participants completed the Attitudes to Ageing Questionnaire which assesses attitudes on three domains—Psychosocial loss, Physical change and Psychological growth. At age 79 years, participants wore an activPAL activity monitor for seven days. The outcome measures were average daily time spent sedentary, number of sit-to-stand transitions, and step count.Results:There were no significant associations between any of the Attitude to Ageing domain scores and time spent sedentary or number of sit-to-stand transitions. In sex-adjusted analysis, having a more positive attitude to ageing as regards Physical change was associated with a slightly higher daily step count, for a SD increment in score, average daily step count was greater by 1.5% (95% CI 0.6%, 2.4%). On further adjustment for potential confounding factors these associations were no longer significant.Conclusion:We found no evidence that attitudes to ageing at age 72 were predictive of sedentary or walking behaviour seven years later. Future studies should examine whether attitudes to ageing are associated with objectively measured walking or sedentary behaviour at the same point in time. The existence of such an association could inform the development of interventions.<br/

REFLEXÃO & ENCENAÇÃO EM FILOSOFIA E CONVERSA DE BOTEQUIM, DE NOEL ROSA

RESUMO: Na obra humorística de Noel Rosa, especificamente nas canções em que o locutor fala de sua conduta, a voz poética que se cristaliza é aquela do sambista em tensão com algum universo de valor; em geral, a enunciação sugere uma oposição aos valores positivos atribuídos ao trabalho formal. Neste artigo, por intermédio da análise de duas canções, Filosofia e Conversa de botequim, propõe-se que, pela abordagem frequente do tema do fingimento, o compositor fala ora criticamente, ora num tom debochado da necessidade de uma máscara social como uma estratégia para sobreviver em sociedade. Nesse sentido, a obra noelina filia-se à ironia romântica que confrontava os valores do mundo burguês como uma estratégia discursiva recorrente. A análise é feita sob uma perspectiva enunciativa de viés bakhtiniano, que mapeia ideológica e estilisticamente a voz lírica das duas canções: como foram construídas, com quais vozes dialogam em oposição ou em conjunção de valores

A MENINA EXTRAVIADA EM PIZARNIK

Neste texto, a poeta e ensaísta argentina Tamara Kamenszain reflete sobre a poesia da também argentina Alejandra Pizarnik (1936 - 1972).
